I literally just busted out my old VG10 w the 18-200 kit lens. The camera sat for many years, I went to fire the thing up and she powered right up. It is vary well made in Japan, hard to find nowadays. The 14mp photos still hold up pretty well, far better than my phone, the video is not the greatest unfortunately, but still a unique camera I can come back to for whatever the occasion. It has an incredible multi capsule microphone, phenomenal to capture nature sounds in the wild. Cheers.

Yeah it is a pretty cool camera only thing a wish it had is a power zoom. I find it really awkward to hold and zoom at the same time.

Same. I bought one when it came out, used it on a vacation but put it away...slide forward 14 years and charge up the battery. The manual say its tested to work with 64Gb SD. I dropped a new 128Gb SD into the camera, told it to format and it worked just fine!. Took to my daughters graduation from high school and got a nice zoom shot of the stage with her crossing and accepting her certificate.

A few plastics can be fixed with acetone(such as in nail polish remover), when it works it's more like reforming the plastic than gluing(seems to briefly kind of dissolve then reset as the acetone evaporates). It depends on the specific plastic type, the easiest way to know if it'll work is just trying it. On many plastics it does nothing, but on a few it works great. One item I fixed, I couldn't even see the join afterwards. I just dip a cotton bid in it, and try a spot. If it works, then I run a bud along the broken edges and put them together. Probably don't try it on clear plastic unless it doesn't matter though, as it can make it hazy. It might be preferable to get an adaptor for older film lenses, as more manual focus(and perhaps more usable/precise manual controls) lenses are available at low prices. The EF mount started in 1987, so I guess most lenses were AF from the start.

We need a VG40 with the FX30 sensor and all the modern stuff in the same or similar body style. Loved handling the VG30 but video quality wasn't up to today standards :/ Also small correction the VG20 doesn't have a zoom rocker. The VG30 is the VG20 but with the zoom rocker added

Have you looked at a vg900?

I had that crack at the tripod mount also. What I did was adding a hard but thin enough rectangular plastic plate that i cut out from a cutlery tray and put it between the camcorder and the tripod and since it screwd on in one end, I zip tied the other end and it worked great haha, do mind flipping out the flippy screen first thouh. Hope that helps!

Yeah I’m pretty sure the L1 was the first camera of that kind with interchangeable lenses. I think a lot of people thought that the nex series were going to be a game changer and camcorders we’re going to have lenses like dslr cameras. But that didn’t happen obviously haha

Fiberglass resin is good for gluing plastics (its basically plastic anyway) a bit messy but while is still wet can be cleaned off with the wife's nail varnish remover.
@elguapo42 Жыл бұрын
Not sure if you need to repair the plastic still but look into JB Weld. It's an affordable product sold at most hardware stores. Good video

@brandonalldredge if you don't mind me asking did you replace with another camcorder? If so which one?

No so what I do is I buy camcorders and usually will buy batteries and and charger and make sure they work good. Then I review them then I will resale them to get more money to buy more cameras. So all the cameras I buy I resale on my eBay store

Hey Brandon !!! Thanks for your video, great review. I’m filming mostly surfing / fishing / motorcycle adventures and love camcorders. Currently using a HDR-XR 550, great one but a little disappointed with the zoom (for filming surfing) and I wish I could adapt a fisheye lens for lifestyle footages. Do you think the Nex VG10 could be an option ? Maybe the zoom could be an issue there. Thanks a lot for your help bud, for your issue, try EPOXY

Yes the vg10 would be a great option since you can get lenses that would best suit your filming needs. Any modern sony e-mount lenses will work on it.
