Waited a long time to get me a Smock. Great knife. PM2 is still the folder I want for the Zombie Apocalypse, but that Smock does get a lock of pocket time. Scales are way nicer then I thought they would be. Love the flipper!

Did you get the regular lynch spyderco deep carry clip , or the one specifically for the spyderco smock?

Best movement of all my knives.. My friend has just about every popular folder, none of them come close to the smooth crisp opening of the Smock. I purchased mine from DNA lasering with titanium scales installed, absolutely first rate craftsmanship.

Got to change the scales on my smock..2 other Spyderco’s they have hollow grinds are my swayback, and there’s an old school manix 2 that’s got a hollow . But you’re right, not many 9:45

Oh really the old Manix did? That’s cool! Yeah you’ll really like the Smock even more with different scales. But beware it really is a nightmare to take apart. Good luck! 😁

Good review of what IS ....I agree...an innovative knife. ARare for Spyderco. They seem to like to rest on their laurels. And don't offer kives with CF scales. Odd. Nor aluminum...that I'm aware of. With the innovation and CF scales this knife is actually not a bad deal. Even if it does only come with a S30V blade. Would like to see it offered in other steels...e.g. 200cv, CruWear, S34v or S110v.... Would have liked to have known the 'behind the cutting edge thickness" of the PM2..heard it's pretty thin...wondered if it compared....
@doodysdaggers
@doodysdaggers Жыл бұрын
Agreed, not sure why they don’t make this knife in other blade steels, that would be great. It’s thinner behind the edge than a PM2, around 15 thousands while the PM2 is around 23

If you guys want a PM2 or Para 3 with a buttoned compression lock just like the smock... you should go check out Blades We Love PM2 Ultra and Para 3 Ultra. Such a great idea, and they executed it perfectly. They have a lot of different flavors too. Makes the knives much more fidgety and ambidextrous friendly. Unlocking the compression lock can be an annoyance for leftys, and having the convenience of a button lock with the crisp detent and strength of a compression lock is always always a win in my book

@doodysdaggers They really are nice. I wish it were possible to do the same thing on the yojimbo and Shaman, but unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, the compression locks are designed differently on those models

A liner lock just sit on the tang of the blade. Compression lock has a notch in the blade tang so the "liner" Can fit inside that notch.

@@doodysdaggers btw smock stock screw are M2 6mm long, the head is 1mm deep, the diameter is 3.2 mm. So I’d say look for maybe some 7mm or maybe 8mmx3.2mm in M2 for that deep carry clip.

Looks like the extra bit is a backup travel stop; there’s a milled C-shaped channel in the blade that accepts it. Each liner has a similar C-shaped cutout that the blade pins run in, so it’s probably not an issue to remove the third system. I have one arriving in a few days, and am looking forward to seeing what the deal with it is in person. Seems like a really fun knife!
@doodysdaggers
@doodysdaggers Жыл бұрын
Oh interesting, so that’s why the knife is fine without it, it’s a backup stop. Makes sense! Nice!! You’ll love it. It gets much smoother with the second detent removed, if you end up doing that. 😉

Got a set of MetonBoss scales to install shortly after purchase and after failing miserably to reinstall the second detent spring and ball, I just gave up and left them out- best decision I’ve ever made. Screwed down the new scales over a pair of Skiff bearings and I wound up with one of the best EDC blades ever
