Hi Brian, I came back to view this comprehensive review once again in order to better understand the features of my Aims global LF inverter. After living on an extension cord for many years I now understand I should set those dip switches to battery priority to avoid popping my 15a breaker so much. In effect I will have 20 amps available current. Thanks so much for making this video as I can now run my microwave and A/C simultaneously. What a game changer. Thanks again.

This puppy is identical to my Aims Global AF inverter yet with a different case however... yours has a much more powerful charger (mine is but 30A). Very reliable and carefree inverter to own. Be aware that when the 0-9 rotary charger dial is set to 100% the charger it can easily trip a typical 15A household breaker. Its best to dial it down or install a 20A outlet and breaker. Thanks for thegreat video and for all that you do for the off-grid community.

Tito, your videos helped me select the Sun Gold Power 3000Watt Inverter/Charger for my Class B Camper Van. The electrical system in my van is powered by a 520aH LiFePO4 battery bank. The main consumers are a microwave, TV, laptop, and an 8000BTU air conditioner. My choice of the Sun Gold Power was based on the charging output, and the capacity of the pure sine wave inverter to support my devices while boondocking -(OK - Camping Off-Grid), and the price. It has all the attributes of some of the more expensive units available. When I received the unit, I was very pleased at the quality of construction, and care taken in packaging it. The installation was easy, and the instructions provided were top-notch. Even though I have 30+ years of building and using similar systems, good instructions are very useful. Now, they include a 2 year warranty, matching what appears to be the industry standard. The unit is excellent value for money, and the technical support after the sale - Outstanding. I highly recommend the product, the company - Sun Gold Power, and their support team! Unfortunately after several trips in my camper/van, the inverter stopped. The charger continued to function 100%. I immediately contacted the company and they assigned me a personal representative. Together we got "right-on-it." Their email assistance provided several simple checks to help determine and isolate the problem. Opening the inverter was easy and the unit appeared to be well laid out and solidly constructed. A real plus in my opinion. The guidance was helpful and clear. The problem proved to be the mainpower supply board. They sent one out from a US-based warehouse, and delivery was within a few days. Again, they provided helpful support for the removal and installation of the board and a set of test procedures, to check all was well before I reinstalled in my rig. Within a little time, I had the system repaired and reinstalled in my van. Everything is functioning 100%. I highly recommend the 3000Watt inverter/charger! Their support after the sale to resolve my issues was second to none. Thanks for the comprehensive video - it help me make a great choice.

I just ordered mine. I watched your video about using a transfer switch and a relay with an inverter to run all of the outlets off the inverter. I have a travel trailer so I had do a different location for my setup. I upgraded to 4 100 amp hour Battle Born batteries this year. My goal was to test how long I could run my 8000 BTU ac unit( 550-600 watts) and my 900 watt micro wave( it draws about 1500 watts). I have a 3500 running/9000 surge watt pure sine wave inverter with a wired remote start panel. It worked great with my ac. I estimated at least 7 hours runtime without any additional power ( solar,etc) . The micro wave however, would not run more than a minute without the inverter shutting off. It was drawing about 1500 watts and the battery voltage was about 13 volts( well within inverter running specs) After my last test, the inverter overloaded and will not reset.So, I said "Enough" and will try this inverter charger. Wish me luck LOL
@RVwithTito2 жыл бұрын
When you get it, make sure you set the dip switch setting for low-battery shutoff to 10.0V instead of 10.5V. That will keep it from shutting down so quickly.

Hi Brian, Once again, a really great and informative video. I enjoy every one of them, although I do miss the earlier ones where your intro included your guitar and the content was trip based. I'll bet that, given this little taste, you'll get the bug for a whole house backup system soon. I've used a Xantrex 24-Volt, 4-KW inverter/charger here in Kingston for about ten years and plan to never go back to PSE power outages. The internal transfer switch in the Xantrex is so fast, I often never realize the power has gone out. None of the computers ever reset and the TV and Internet router just keep going. Comcast is backed up for around eight hours. If the outage goes longer, a 16-KW generator picks up the extra as well as running the water heater, the heat strips in the furnace and the clothes dryer. If you do get the bug, 3-KW might do it depending on what you like to run during outages. I'd suggest the addition of a Xantrex (or equivalent) transformer which will produce the opposite phase for a whole house, split-phase wiring solution. Almost all houses built in the last fifty years are split-phase. This split phase will produce 240 Volts, but I don't run the very large, 240V loads from the inverter/batteries as they would run down my batteries too quickly. As it is, the system will power my typical household loads for about four hours on 2400 Watt-hours of lithium batteries. My inverter also has programmable relays for starting a generator and I've designed the circuit for this but haven't had the ambition to tear open the Kohler and make the modifications so I still go outside and just push the button if the batteries ever get down around 10%. Best regards
@RVwithTito2 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty nice setup. Thanks. Yeah. We still have a many UPS units for the internet and network plus a large generator that can run off propane (which is how I prefer to run it). But it seems to be overkill most of the time.

Hey Brian, Great review of the Sun Gold 3000-0Watt inverter/charger. Best I've seen. Kudos and much thanks. I was wondering how one wires a genset and grid power on the AC side of the inverter. There's only one set of connectors for the AC in and one for the AC out.
@RVwithTito3 ай бұрын
You're correct. There is only one AC input. It is not intended for both grid and generator inputs. Let's assume your AC input is a gas generator with an auto start feature. The dry contacts will activated when the DC voltage drops below the low voltage level. The end result would be your generator starting up. The inverter would pass through that power to the loads while recharging your battery. I was actually using this inverter today to test a new battery. It's still a very solid unit.

@@RVwithTito Agreed. If it would work on a residential fridge I would be very surprised the fridge would ever be able to enter a defrost cycle as it would have to have uninterrupted powered for several hours before it decides on that. I believe there are also many devices that could die from the repeated shock of that pulsating cycle. That makes this "power saving" functionality a bad sellers gimmick :-( I love the review though and yes you felt that right, people like me love to see a quick shot of the inner sides of devices, the size of the low frequency transformer, the size of the wires and even the number of power fets and diodes. @RVwithTito2 жыл бұрын
Let's see. Feels like a math story problem :) I just measured the 3 second pulses. It pulls about 0.2A per pulse. That's about 20 seconds per minute at 4A per minute (0.2A * 20). So 48W per minute (4A * 12V). You may want to check my math since it is Saturday night :) I supposed it's much less than the 3A continuous draw (with no AC load) when not on power saver. Hope that helps.
@a2022z22 жыл бұрын
Acc. To the specification it draws less than 25W in power save mode. I think 25W (2A) is to much for an RV. 0.5-1 A would be acceptable. Please include this in your next test.

This is very well done. Thank you for putting this together. It will charge the bank to 14.8V @ 50A, then taper current to 0A. As soon as the bank reaches 13.3V, the process is repeated again and again. My battery's boil! This inverter does NOT have a true float mode! Not happy! I had to purchase a separate float charger.

You might want to check into that for 3000w you need 4/0 wire for anything over a 3foot run of wire 2/0 for under 3ft this is nearly exact same inverter as the the aims inverter I have and at 3000w load your talking over 300amp draw 1/0 will not carry that and the inverter will get massive voltage droop causing even more amp draw and heat / strain on the inverter.

@@housesOTR Lots of options there. I have a Samlex 2K PSW in my class C. Works good. Xantrex is good too. Try and find one that comes with a remote. I've heard many complaints about the Renogy ones though.

I have this Sun Gold Power (4000w) inverter at an off-grid seasonal cabin. It is turned off when I am not there. It’s under two years old and has worked fine since it was installed. It recently started to turn itself off after being on for about 15 seconds. Upon turning it to the off position and restarting it, it again continues to shut itself off within a minute. The LED readout is scrambled and unrecognizable. Any thought on what is causing this to occur?

Sun Gold is a Chinese clone of Aims. Aims products are manufactured in China. My assumption is the design and tech are 'taken' from the Aims products. I note the Sun Gold products now offer a solar charger input so that a separate solar charge controller would not be needed.
@RVwithTito2 жыл бұрын
Personally not a fan of the all-in-one units with integrated solar MPPT. The charge controller is such an important component and I prefer to be more specific with my specs/choices. Maybe it would work if you have a very basic solar setup.

I just found your video, and inflation is in full swing, it’s $825 now, lol. Still it looks like a nice unit. I tried a Renogy 3,000 watt because of the price, it was dead out of the box. Returning it under 30 day policy. QUESTION; Can you use as a stand alone inverter for now, then use the charge function later? I’m looking to put an inverter in my camper that’s separate from the main system. Set it up with a 30 amp plug, if no shore power, plug it in. The rv will be fully functional limited by battery bank and solar. Thanks

If there's no AC input then it should just function as an inverter.
@TheRayDog Жыл бұрын
As the reply mentioned, yes, if no AC input it won't charge. But, even better, you can disable the charger with a simple setting on the unit.

Which one would do you think would be better for RV applications....Victron Energy MultiPlus or this sungoldpower ? Looking to upgrade from a Victron 1200 inverter....
@RVwithTito2 жыл бұрын
It's hard to beat the modular network and communication capabilities of a Victron system. Of course, it's a more expensive setup. This SunGoldPower inverter seems solid though as a low-cost alternative. In case you're wondering, I use all Victron gear in my Class A including a Multiplus II. Thank you for the video. I bought this inverter and three batteries before we left and didn't have a chance to install it. I need to figure out how to get it hooked up to shore power as well as our generator. Any suggestions? Thanks
@RVwithTito2 жыл бұрын
Option one would be to get an automatic transfer switch (amzn.to/3kcuG0x). Your shore and generator connections go in, and one connection comes out. It's switched automatically. The second (easier) option is to add female 30A plug to your generator output. To use your generator connect the generator output to the shore power cord. Hope those helps.

@@RVwithTito Thanks Tito, Doesn't the SunGold have a switch built in? I have the same model you showed.

@@tradndreams It switches between grid (shore) and inverter. With a generator you will have two grid sources.

The generator should work the same as if you're plugged into shore power. Just plug your generator into the shore power cord and the pass-through feature of this inverter should power your rig and charge your batteries.

What would be your recommendation for someone that has an on board generator but would like to be able to run AC power for televisions and charging devices only without powering up the generator? Can this (or some other unit) be configured just for AC outlets? I’ve been looking at the multiplus 2 but the whole set up is pricey just to watch tv and charge devices only. Thanks

SunGold Power branded inverters are great inverters, but SunGold power does not manufacture their own inverters. SunGold Power is just a reseller. SunGold inverters are manufactured by Sigineer Power.

Ok I watched your video twice and did some research. SunGoldPower headquarter in China and will explain the less cost, currently going to $735 and offering free shipping and no tax until 31 Oct. My only concern, if you need tech support, then you need to wait until after 8 PM to contact someone on the east coast? I worked for Tech Support for IBM and my counterpart in China didn't start until 8PM, and I needed to start at 4 AM at the end of shift. I am concern about getting stuff from China. With the Supply Chain issue we are having now, if you order one how some will it here. My biggest concern is tech support for setup and will they be about to understand me.

So in A/C mode can I run shore power to it and have it keep my batteries charging while those batteries run 12v appliances ?
@RVwithTito Жыл бұрын
Yes...sort of. Typically your battery charger, batteries and 12V system will all be connected either directly or indirectly. So depending on your battery state of charge your charger and batteries may both power your 12V DC loads. The flow of energy will always be from the higher voltage source to the load.

I cannot get my 3000w 12v sungoldpower inverter to fully charge my single 300ah LiFePo4 battery. At 43% the "fast" charge switches to "float" charge and ceases charging the battery. The battery reads 13.7v and appears to force the charger to float even though its only at 43%. I have left it in float mode for 10 hours and the battery does not charge anymore at all. any thoughts.

I have this exact inverter but I am having trouble with the shore power charging function. Does anyone know why that might be? It had initially started to charge but at some point shut down and will not start again. I have cut power, changed to a higher gauge cord to plug in shore power, and checked all connections. It is functioning on shore power mode and showing everything coming in properly. It just won't switch to charge mode.
