Well, your final image is spectacular. Thanks for the tip about blackening the edges of the lenses.

Really like your videos, thinking about DIYing a mount myself as I am on a tight budget and currently have no mount big enough for my new OTA. I've been hesitant because I don't want to invest the money only to get sub par results, but i think you have convinced me to try. Thanks!

The results I'm getting far exceed anything I could buy for that money.

Great job my friend looks like that mount & guidescope are performing well, I've got the smaller guidescope which you showed in your video which works ok but the stars look like comets for some reason & not points of light. I checked it out no pinched optics or anything so very weird. Clear skies!!

The 30mm? Yeah that's always been a fiddly one for me to focus. It probably wouldn't be too hard to get it misaligned. I haven't liked the way you have to tighten the lock nut after you focus. Throws it off every time.

Great video, when you did your PA you got it to well under 1 arc min, so what did it show 10.8 arc mins on the PHD2 guide assistant..? That’s a huge difference…
@whyf16uy6 ай бұрын
So I've noticed that before, even mentioned it in a previous video. I've tried the align in PHD2 also but haven't noticed much difference in the guiding. Guess I'll try it again now with the new mount. Thanks for the input. I still need to figure lots more out about this astrophotography crap.

Just subed, fyi I read by having the guide scope a bit out of focus improves guiding? Maybe the thinking is a bit larger star better?
@whyf16uy4 ай бұрын
I've heard that too but the manual for phd2 says to focus sharp. So I guess it's up to you.

Nothing beats using off access guiding with focal lengths over 500.

I clicked on this because I have the same guide scope. Wanted to see if yours was good too or if maybe mine was a happy accident. I think it's better than it should be based on price.... I was surprised to find that we are using the same telescope.... Is that a 10in? If it's what I think it is, I haven't seen many of them. Information seems kind of scarce. I subbed. Going to look through your videos now to see if you have any info on the Meade.

At home I just use that guide scope and Svbony's 305M Pro camera, no muss no fuss.

Mine is the 8. The 10 must b a monster, mine is already heavy enough. Yes, I have several videos on the care and feeding of the Meade Schmidt-Newtonian.

@@MatthewHolevinskiThe 305M probably is a better guide cam than my color one.

@@whyf16uyoh probably a negligible difference, my favorite thing though is when you point it at something really bright like sirius you get this kaleidoscope rectangular starburst pattern it's really trippy and kinda pretty.
@whyf16uy6 ай бұрын
@MatthewHolevinski cool, never seen that on mine

Any reason to use such short exposures? I was always told below 2seconds and you're usually just chasing seeing conditions and can be making the guiding worse.

All the best practices you can find on harmonic drive mounts say .5 to 1 second are what they like.

OK , your Video description says "65mm" SVBony GuideScope which I assumed was something new . You unbox a standard , typical 60mm model . Not funny !

Dang you are right. It must have been late at night when I uploaded it I guess. I will change it now.
