Another comment about Up Front. UF is an absolute fabulous game that is still verymuch under valued because the vast majority of people only plays the first intro scenarios. These days I play UF with full 10 scenario campaign games that can be found on the UF Facebook support group (scenarios range from A to W including all Banzai and Desert War expansions). Everything is possible in Up Front, from the most common Tanks and other AFV to Artillery, snipers, bunker assaults and dozens of historical campaigns. I hope Tank Duel will include a campaign system in the future although it is not as diverse as UF in its support for Infantry and artillery. Those interested : you can still BUY NEW official printed copies of Up Front at www.wargamevault.com by permission of Hasbro with newly written rules and LOTS of player aids found on BGG and the Up Front Facebook group. Have fun.

Big fan of your videos. This one is a funny (and refreshing) change because you’re both so disorganized and just “conversational” for lack of a better term. It makes sense when you explain that your review is based on a previous play through. Thanks for another great video!

The Theatre of the Mind aspect of the game is not for everyone. It's like playing Dungeons and Dragons without tiles and figures. I have friends who need to push a token in order to have a desired effect that something did occur. I think that the game is designed to have players feel as if they are in the dark about what's going outside, which attempts to simulate the conditions of being in a tank. Edit: it might help people who want maps and tokens to print out tiles and maps. A guy created a PDF file on boardgame geeks. I will use the map with my playgroup.

I loved the game. I skimmed the rulebook, then played solo by the tutorial provided within as a guide and then found the rules we’re not a problem at all - made sense.

Up Front came out in 1982. It was not well accepted as I remember a LOT of backlash towards it being the "squad leader with cards". This was before ASL was released, so the it took some time before the criticism died down. Up Front is still quite good.

I'd like to see a more detailed infantry expansion but, unfortunately, it doesn't seem possible since the tank cards don't have any data on machine guns or HE rounds.

Not a replacement for Up Front but great to play in SOLO mode. The solo mode AI Bot is excellent btw. It borrows the 100 chance die from MBT and Panzer but instead of using 100D dice it pulls cards. Up Front is grander, more deep of course but I like the hardware AND the fact you play in a Platoon like game IF you play solo because you need to replace KNOCKED out tank. I pimp it with my miniature terrain and 1/100 scale tanks of Flames of War/Blitzkrieg Commander. I think you miss a lot just playing one tank per player as the game gets much more tactical by playing 3 or even 4 tanks in solo mode against an EXCELLENT AI. This is far more than a move and shoot one on one tank game.

reminds me of up front, too. I think I like it better, because its less complex. Always thought Up Front didnt deliver with the game play, but I still keep it around. I'm the only person in my wargame group that can even tolerate Up Front FWIW. I enjoy ASL, too, so complexity is not necessarily bad. I like how simple Tank Duel is - feels 'beer and pretzels' to me. I've only played 4 player, and it flowed well.

I really liked this game and it wasn’t to bad solo but I would love to play against someone else.

No tanks? No thanks. That's playing (early) WW1 tactical or special forces. A WW2 game must have AFVs, even in the Pacific theater.

I found the game a bit disappointing with two players. The system is very clever but somehow it does note click.

Since this is fairly current- from players aid own website...... ‘Word of warning as you watch this review. We played this game in late November with a few friends from out of town and didn’t shoot our thoughts at that time. We finally got around to doing a video review a few months later after a long night of playing another game so I feel bad about that’. Take this review as they intend......perhaps some rusty considerations here? Don’t know cos I don’t have the game. I am thinking of it.
