In this video, I reviewed a ZOTY ZT-702S, a budget handheld oscilloscope/DMM from ZOTEK. The oscilloscope has a bandwidth of 10 MHz and has a maximum sampling rate of 48 MSa/s with 64 K sample memory. And the multimeter is has 9,999 counts. zotektools.com/products/zoyiz...

As a few of you had pointed out, correction around 27:30 it should be microvolts not nanovolts. If I ever get my hands on a nanovolt meter you will see it on this channel for sure :-)

Very thorough and informative review, high quality work by the reviewer. No annoying music intro, loud or otherwise. Just straight to the point, but he still filled 40 minutes with important details and learning. This is how all reviews should be done.

This was a great review! I like how you gave an indication of how each spec related to other devices. It was great to know if something performs well or is typical behaviour, rather than just being told a number

Thanks for the review. This sounds like it will meet my newbie needs for a few years with uP projects. Also in Dave's review they were quick to get some firmware updates out, so its possible there will be more.

Great review! Got mine yesterday. It was battery dead upon arrival. Bad sign. It wouldn't charge after trying different cables & chargers. Finally pulled the battery & it wouldn't charge in the C4 charger. Finally put another battery (EBL) in it & seems like all is well, for now. Going to have to monitor it for power off drain down. If all is well over the next weeks, then it was a minor issue. If not.....

Kerry, IMO, this is your best review EVER! Give yaself a pat on the back! (I can be quick to criticize when things aren't quite right, but I can be equally quick to give praise!) IMO, this DMM+Scope combo looks to be a great choice for those starting out in the electronics field. Sure, it's only a 1-channel scope, and doesn't have cursors, FFT etc like any half decent 'modern' scope, but it's VERY well priced!

This device warns you when you switch into A or mA mode, BUT NOT BACK! Why? A couple of hours ago I repaired a simple UNI-T M830BUZ meter, tested its 10 A range, then switched to 750 V AC and... set off the circuit breaker 😀by inserting an unfused 10 A shunt directly into 220 V. The meter survived, but all my 220 V powered digital clocks now require setting time...

I ordered one as soon as I watched Dave's review. He was surprising non-critical, so I am glad you agree with his judgement, I do have the Owon handheld scope too. As Dave would probably saw, you can't have too many scopes! (I have his favorite vintage HP CRO as well.)

Update: It remembers now in which mode it was (oscilloscope or multimeter) when switching on again They show now a clear picture where the lines should plugged in in addition to the warning triangle, everytime when choose A or mA range. To test internal fuses without opening the case, just go to resistance mode and test with the red line the A and mA terminal. When there are a few ohms at mA and about 0,24 ohms at A the fuses are ok. Ambient temperature can be measured by short the two probes in temp.mode.

Interestingly they use a protected 18650 cell, although there's a charging IC. I wonder if that one maybe has no low discharge protection? I've tested the device with a unprotected 3500 mA cell and it automatically stopped charging at 4.2V (as expected). The battery holder also seems to be made for a shorter, unprotected cell, since its already a very tight fit and the plastic is bent slightly on the ends of the holder. I wonder why the still used the cell with additional protection circuitry.

I wish more companies would use replaceable 18650 cells. Because they’re widely used for vapes, there are a variety of them available as well as chargers.

@@KerryWongBlog Ok. Than you can make a test measures if you have this device? Make a measures with setup range 1:1 and 1:10. Because I also know about specs. I'm need a real information. I'm assuming that 150V is for 1:1 probe. It is very simple: you change voltage range by pressing up on the device and watch what it says on top of display with different setup modes for probe 1:1 and 1:10.

Good morning. My name is Marco and I'm Brazilian Your video is very good. I have a question: This ZT702S device, with the oscilloscope function, can I connect it to a computer for measurements, making the computer screen the oscilloscope screen? Another question: can I measure 1mV scale, as I use a lot of load cells? Thanks
@KerryWongBlog
@KerryWongBlog Ай бұрын
No, it doesn't have the "mirroring" capability. Also the sensitivity of the vertical scale only goes down to 20mV/DIV

I have a zotek dmm. It was my first decent one when I started. I donated it to charity but missed it and rebought it on sale. I think it's the Q1. I've give a few of their meters as gifts. Them and aneng swap names but I thing zoytek is the oem. I need a cheap letter with inductance measurements Kerry and I'm wondering if the 50 dollar mastech or the little uni-t one are any good. I won't be doing rf so I don't want to spend a lot.

Very few budget meters have inductance ranges. I don't currently have any DMMs that can measure inductance. But if you have a specific model in mind I will see if I can get one for a future review.

@@jstro-hobbytech Well, if you just need to measure inductors values, you could just get yourself a component tester. They are cheap and do a decent job. You won't be able to measure at a specific frequency, but neither could you with the MSB269.

@Kerry Wong my component testers are very hit or miss. I think I have made a deal for a midrange second hand lcr meter. I don't need anything fancy and you're right, I completely forgot about testing at a specific frequency. Thank you very much.

Why does everyone remove the protective film from display faces?

Because it's meant to be removed. It's only meant to protect during assembly and shipping.

I almost never remove the film it actually cuts down on reflective glare and it protects the plastic screen. I have one meter where the film finally became dull and scratched, so that single case I removed it after 15 years now the meter looks nearly new again.

@@ed-jf3xh I pretty much do the same until they get that gammy they need taking off. But if I was doing a review... well without is the intended use case. And they can make the screen harder to pick up on camera. Not removing it could give an unfair impression. Even worse it could hide glare problems or make you not notice the screen is easy to scuff or scratch.
