The Vietnamese people are lovely wherever you go in the country they are smiling and welcoming . When you consider what they suffered at the hands of the Americans and French is a wonder they have any time for westerners. A country that should be on everybody's visit list

Awesome review on the A350! I had flown on VN recently too and can't deny that their service has been improving quite a lot recently. I really hope I could try out their widebodied aircraft someday! Thanks for sharing! Really enjoyed and appreciate it! :)

Pretty much my experience exactly. I've flown down to Australia twice in business with Vietnam Airlines. I was struck straight away by the charm and hospitality of the cabin crews. Very nice food and service. The newer seating on 787 and A350 aircraft provide a huge and much needed improvement on the older and now phased out 777 fleet. I'd fly them anytime. Always enjoy your reviews Josh.

I hope in charge of customer service for airlines will watch this and compare it with malaysian airline experience. As you can see, even tho products are bad you dont even want to complain because the service was impeccable. Josh had a wrong meal, however he didnt bother complaining about it because crew was so nice and warm to him. Unlike malaysian airlines, crew was cruel to him. They didnt show any care about the problem with the tv etc etc. so, this should give a really good pointers to airlines.

Another great flight Josh and I admire the way you talk about the crew. For many of them its a huge thing in their lives to be working for an airline and the jobs are much coveted for people from countries like Vietnam. I find cabin crew from many airlines in Asia fantastic and sometimes they don't get it right and your approach is the same as mine....they are trying their best and they are so charming and friendly. If they stuff up the food or drink order I really don't care...I always just say in a very very polite way that this wasn't what I ordered and take your time to fix it!!! Keep up the great work and Happy 2019!!

Vietnam Airlines has come a long way! In 2005, I flew from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City on Vietnam Airlines. I can't recall the type of aircraft I was on, but it was an old airplane from Sabena Airlines which went out of business in 2001. Vietnam Airlines tried to paint over the dark blue logo on the interior wall panels, but they definitely needed a few more coats. You could still see the dark blue Sabena name!

Do you know why they were terrible back then? Because they had no competition. Vietnam now has 2 private airlines companies: Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airlines and two more private airlines will be on market in the next 1-2 years. Stewardesses had to buy their jobs, language skills, poor training were ignored and nepotism. They focused on smuggling to make money and they didn't give a damn about service and rating. CEO was incompetent as well. And do you know that CEO in a communist country has to be a communist party member? VA improved only after it's privatized and sold its 30% share to Japan Airlines.

I flew Seoul to Paris last month with Air France and their cabin crew were superb. So friendly and so helpful. Was strange as nearly everyone else on the plane was Korean.

Sorry, but that meal did not look very appetizing for a business class offering. Love you and your videos! Happy New Year, Josh! One of my best cabin crew experiences was many years ago on a Continental Airlines flight from L.A. to Sydney. We had pretty bad turbulence after leaving our stop in Auckland and so the flight attendant who was serving my meal broke into song, singing a full chorus of "Surfin' Safari"...he even looked like a Beach Boy. It made everyone laugh because we were all nervous.

We had a great flight from Bkk to Japan via Hanoi with Vietnam Airlines. By far the best asian airlines carrier we have yet flown with. Although Singapore Airlines also is super great!

Hey Josh! As a Vietnam Airlines Platinum Frequent Flyer, I just wanted to share some things with you. The entertainment is pretty disappointing... HOWEVER, on flights going to Seoul/Japan/Frankfurt/London Heathrow, the airline do serve Phở and a variety of premium amenities. But on all my flights with Vietnam Airlines, the crew are absolutely lovely. Anyways, I’ll keep this short, I’m glad you enjoyed flying with my country’s flag carrier. 😆 Have a nice day! Fantastic trip report! It's very weird that there were few Western movies. I have flown with VNA many times before the pandemic and the choices of movies were good, there were many Hollywood movies. However, now, during the pandemic, the IFE of VNA is very bad, only few movies to watch. It's funny that you got the wrong meal, because I saw that the crew had taken note the order carefully

I didn’t request this meal as I’m allergic to seafood. 🧐 I believe I ordered ..... If the crew gave out the main that I asked for, I’d simply eat the salad, bread and dessert which is ok on a short flight such as this. I agree with you that they earned their poor IFE rating. 😔

Hey Josh 🙂!Very detailed review on VN.These seats are one of my favorite J class seats, however I agree with you the seat closer to aisle lack privacy especially the ones on Iberia A340,330,350,Hong Kong airline A330,but Thai uses these seat on the A350 and B77W,the seats on some B77W and all A350 of Thai has got some privacy barrier type of a thing which results in more privacy if you seat on the seat closer to the aisle.Waiting for the next review 🙂🙂

@@Twodaae its register number is vn-a891. It's herringbone type seat with 29 seats in business class. Vna just has only 321Ceo and 321neo for the single-aisle plane. The configuration for 321 is 2-2 in business class, not so special about it.

I have always had fantastic cabin crew experiences on Quantas. I have always found them to be the most friendly and charming. Maybe I just dig Australians (Aussie Aussie Aussie, oy oy oy!), but that's my experience.

I plan to buy business class ticket on A350 and want to choose "true window" seat as what you had in this review. I couldn't see that indication in seat map. So, what was your seat number? Should I get "odd or even" number to have a "true window" seat? Thank you.

I live in Vietnam but for long haul I prefer other carriers since VN's price is not too competitive and service is unsophisticated (as you discovered). Now that VN has permission to fly to the States it will be interesting to see when that actually happens? I do think that VN would be a much better carrier if it were not state owned. I suggest you also try the private LCC Vietjet - our low cost carrier for domestic and short haul Asian flights.
