Strongest Vogue collection that we've seen in a while. I'd like them to include a few "Very Easy Vogue" patterns here and there, though: I think "Easy" was the simplest level shown. I still have my Vogue Easy Sewing book from 1985!

I love these reviews. I don't need anymore patterns, but not everything in my stash is suited for my body. Also, I love high-end fashion. You always point out design details that help me make a more informed decision to buy or pass. I love V1908 pattern. I love anything that looks vintage 1930's or 1940's with luxury elegant details. My goal is to look expensive. One of the best collections from Vogue in a really longtime.

I agree 100%! It’s almost impossible for me to find anything that looks elegant. I have gotten into vintage in the last few years, 1930/1940s era. Elegant pre WWII up to about 1945.

I'm relatively new to the channel. Rediscovering sewing as I get older. Your reviews are great from the sewists' perspective. Vogue is fun to look at, but I don't have anywhere to where this fancy stuff.

I have several very old Vogue patterns. I used to buy them at a fabric store for 25 cents. The are at least 20 years old, but still stylish for today. Vogue stays true to classics, which indeed makes them timeless.

Great video !I really value the detailed reviews you create as it helps me sort out the must have patterns that will be a sewing success over the 'cute but potential sewing headache'! There are a lot of cool versatile patterns in this collection . My first pattern crush is the in house wrap shirt dress, it's gorgeous in the short version and not just for fall. I'll be tempted later by the Rachel Comey short and top , which would be perfect for a beach/sailing holiday, it's got that sailor chic look about it.

I made the Vogue 1909 in a woollen crepe and I love it. Very flattering when you have a tummy! The woollen fabric drapes really nice, and has also enough structure to it, but I omitted the collar. That would have choked me, I think. I pair the top with wide leg pants in the same fabric, and that feels very much on trend, a whole outfit in one fabric. I also bought the Marcy Tilton top. I agree with you: beter with a bigger collar. And I’m gonna change the cuffs too. Thanks for your video!

It was really helpful when you pointed out the fit or sewing issues that are shown on the pattern envelope photos. I don't notice those usually but once you pointed them out, then I saw them. It's good to know that professional sewists had sewing problems too because then I know I would have those problems because I'm only an intermediate level sewist.
@InsidetheHem
@InsidetheHem 2 жыл бұрын
It's important to remember that the professional sewists don't make these garments specifically for the fit model. A garment is sewn at a certain size, then the model with is hired, and they hope for the best with fit.

I made the top v1909 in a beautiful linen. It is lined front and back but not the sleeves or collar. In the linen, it falls over the body beautifully and looks really nice.

The box pleated top looks very much like a 1950s maternity top with matching pencil skirt. They were common back then, when baby bumps were considered something to be disguised, not shown off.

Hear me out on the yellow silk one; structured either flannel for the top portion and light gauzy lawn for the drapey peplum situation, go full 2012 pinterest with it. OR, go full goth, do leather or vegan leather for the bodice-bits, drop the sleeves altogether, add a cool meshy/lace situation and we’ve got a modern morticia.

I like Vogue 1906 with that half capelet thing on the shoulder and the dropped shoulder on the other side. I really like the black and white striped view. I feel like the beige is classy, but that fabric shows every bump and even her hip bones show and that is not flattering. The back view does the same and it's not a good look. However, done the stripes, that dress is fabulous! I enjoy your pattern reviews. You go so much more in depth than anyone else and I really get the feel of whether or not the pattern would be right for my style and my skills as a sewist. Thank you for the very detailed reviews!

I had a very similar fluorescent outfit made with a Vogue pattern in 1994 for my 8th grade luncheon. The top was longer, but honestly it is from the same family. I love that I would 100% wear the newer fluorescent version today (mine was a warm neon green!)

Love most of them!! The last three pants patterns I would skip as I have similar patterns already. I especially liked 1902-that look was seen in some older movies-any where from a 40's to an 80's vide! Very elegant and cool! Also the 1940"s coat-1903-very cool! I like the idea you mentioned of brocade, as this could easily be a coat dress! Most of the dresses are very cool-and love the V1914 tunic and pants, very cool! V1901 is a must have!! This is so chic!! I have to say most of them seemed like transition pieces from late summer into early winter-and a lot of them could be worn all winter into early Spring!! Thank you for this review! Have a great day!!

I agree with you on the 1907 back issues. Too tight across the bust and needs a little bit shortened on the back waist length. The upper back may be too narrow. I love Vogue patterns. Many of the patterns are labeled Advanced due to the intricacy in design but that's what I like about them. I can buy simple, unfitted garments off the rack.

Hi! I am a so-so sewist. I usually make this that don’t have a lot of “fit” to them, because I don’t know how to do that stuff, and I don’t know how to even learn fit. And then there are any shifts in weight, which, like, negate hours of work on a fitted garment when there is, for instance, no elastic waistband involved. Nonetheless, I want to figure out how to make more challenging garments, and how to actually fit things to my body. How do you learn that?

Great video as always .Love how you all of the detail. As a champion of inclusivity and an ally to all that is empowering, I wanted to call your attention to the use of a word that is very offensive to many in the disabled community. You spoke the word at 38:59/39:00. Like you, I am learning so much these days, but I recall Lizzo said the word and was called in and I believe she posted about it on Twitter to much praise. I just wanted to share the thought with you. Looking forward to your next video.

The coat is extremely elegant Though I do not care for the zipper. I have absolutely no need of a coat. The Mischka dress is cool but I think most women would want to modify the neckline or wear a camisole under it. I love the knit column dress. I would make it as a sweater. Is the dress with the Peter Pan collar looks like a costume, maybe Lolita. I agree with you that the structured cowl Empire waist dress is a better candidate for bust cups. That 1 looks very difficult to sit properly. the back of the maroon dress is a fitting disaster. According to the finished garment measurements the bust and waist are the same. That is really strange. Most women need a more room in the bust than they do in the waist. that vintage coat would be outstanding as a shirt dress.

Vogue doing what Vogue does: pushing boundaries. Rachel Comey doing her weird but chic thing. Then there's that Goodwill dress - inexplicably terrible and dated to the point where I can't stop thinking about it. What kind of mind allows such a thing to manifest? It reminds me of this girl who was dating one of my husband's friends. She kicked her boyfriend and glared at him when he ordered two sandwiches after I announced lunch was on me. I never saw that girl again until she was on the news for robbing a bank. What this has to do with this dress, I don't know. It's just that same level of good with a huge does of WTF.

Lol! The “goodwill” dress screams 80’s to me. The collar, puffed sleeves and bodice are very 80’s. Lots of pencil skirts then too but the typical skirt on that style would have been a-line or fit and flare. I’m not sure how to feel about those big collars coming back.
@missdemeanor3524
@missdemeanor3524 2 жыл бұрын
@@reggie7956 I don't know how to feel about those collars either. I think they need to be handled carefully in order to look fresh and not dated though. It's like we've moved past the good 80's and into the Falcon Crest era of the 80's. As much as I'm trying to talk myself into ignoring this look, it kind of seems like wearing some of these might be fun. I might just grab this bull by the horns and make that Goodwill dress. Next stop grunge, then minimalism.
