That vintage Jackie O dress has has a fitted sheath underneath. The full strapless dress is attached to the sheath. The foundation is a built-in corset that stabilizes the upper part of the gown. That vintage caftan is gorgeous.

Exactly. Full refers to volume here, not coverage.

I think It's the best collection out of the big 4. None of it looks like home made clothing. The designs are sophisticated and modern ready to wear contenders. To me the other 3 pattern companies from the group don't come close to Vogue. If and when they decide to include sizes above 24 I hope they don't compromise on the quality of their designs.

I really like the idea of learning all the couture finishes - and I think there's something to be said for including them in even non- fancy clothes. If I'm going through the trouble of making something, even a Tshirt, why not make them special by using couture details?

Re: underdress would likely have required some architectural features, which would include an interior waist band where the stays would be anchored. To support the bodice.

I really like that Sandra Betzina jacket and pant. Definitely buying that one!

Loved the Vogue summer collection. I think Vogues quality control is a little better than the other three of the big four. Only one miss for me, it was the short red dress with all the gathers up the front. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the great overview of both the Vogue and the McCall's summer releases. I have to say it is really annoying that they removed or seemed to have left out the pattern envelope info for the McCall's patterns! No idea why that would be on purpose, so I hope it's an error. Overall I think these patterns are a lot nicer than what we had for this past Spring & Winter, which included some really bizarre creations in my opinion.

This collection is really interesting. Way better than what we've been seeing.

Yep, you always see the wrong guy in a Speedo, also known as a marble bag. There are some beautiful dresses in this collection. I think the white shorts were ruined by adding those gold buttons.

Yes, the pattern companies just sew up the samples and the fit models are selected for body measurements that most closely match the size chart measurements. But as we who sew in the real world know, nobody, not even fit models will exactly match a measurement chart. That’s why the sample garments don’t always fit the models as well as they should. They don’t make any alterations to the pattern to adjust for any given model’s body, so I wouldn’t necessarily use how well it fits the models to decide how well it could fit me. I do wish that they would provide information along the lines of “model’s measurements are xyz, and she is wearing a size x,” but I’m not holding my breath, since they still don’t always provide pertinent finished garment measurements on the pattern envelopes.

Definitely buying that 1st high low dress although I will have to do some work on the halter top. I wish the pattern companies would give us cup sizes for garments like this. Regarding the bus starts on the couture dress. When I learned pattern drafting in school we made slopers with with darts that met at the Apex. We learned to modify the design from there. Is the square necked dress is gorgeous. I need that pattern. Vogue had another pattern with draped inside leg pants several years ago. I think it was probably also a Sandra betsina. I made a couple pairs of the pants. They really are cool.

I am so, so happy to see a vintage vogue pattern from 1979, even though my lifestyle doesn’t include evening length caftans 😂 The 50s/60s patterns are beautiful but not my preference. I might buy it anyways to encourage them to make more late 70s patterns! Edit: it’s bringing me back to this scene which was a big part of my childhood: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoa4goeYrNaLa7s

Ha ha .. I live in Italy and my man rocks a "speedo"! He mostly wears the ones that are spandex shorts. I see about 50/50 shorts vs "speedos" at the beaches here.

Lindsay that first dress is the designer original. I would hesitate to substitute ribbon for the recommended bias, as that hem is shaped, and a woven ribbon will not bend and shape to the curves. You’d end up with a hot mess and frustration. ❤️❤️ the Tom and Linda Platt number.

I like Vogue patterns, but something with sleeves would be good here. Or maybe some diverse body shapes.

I wrote down V1884, but might get the speedo swimsuit pattern to tease my husband at Christmas. He used to wear them as he was a competitive swimmer in the 60's. OOps I'm aging us, yes.

Sadly I have seen a few speedo style suits on Hiltin Head this year. Mostly Europeans I think. However if you were making the swim trunks for your guy you could use the speedo part as a lining. It could help reduce chaffing between the legs. Or lengthen the legs a little like biker shorts for the lining. Also LOVE a guy in short shorts

Thanks for another wonderful review. Thank you for confirming my thought that V1888 had proportion issues, love it though and will perhaps take it on if this ridiculous heat wave stays with us in Northern!! Europe. As a side note, here in many European countries, speedos are only allowed male swimming costumes at pools. Hygiene is cited… ranging debates needless to say on line.

Yes to men in short shorts 😆 Most everything in this collection is pretty. Sandra Betzina, goofy as usual. I like the vintage patterns they chose to re-release. However, the only thing I'm compelled to purchase is 1883. That's a classic beauty of a dress and will be sure to pick it up.

I use to love Vogue, back when I was thin. Nowadays they don't make patterns to fit my size.

2 things: 1) I think side boobs might be in, I made a casing on a bandana for my daughter in law yesterday for a top and she said she wanted to get her side boob tan 2) I went to a pool party last summer and there were indeed a few men there with speedos. I am WA state. This past fall I was at a gathering and I’m talking to this guy and I thought he looked familiar then it clicked and I told him I didn’t recognize him without his speedos! We had a good chuckle.

The elasticized waist on V1888 would likely be very problematic for any of us with a real-world body. If the finished garment was off by even a little, that elastic at the waist would cause a poofy look around the midriff. I’m with you on wondering if that waist position is too low to be at the natural waist, but that might be an optical illusion, because in my opinion, the proportions are just off on this design. The vertical distances between the gathering positions are not as pleasing to the eye as they should be.

Most of these patterns are only suitable for a person who does not need to wear a bra. Low sides, bra straps which show on the shoulders or in the back are not my thing. In the Spring, I bought 2 copies of the 50s polka dot suit. It had a lovely blouse, jacket and skirt which could all be easily worn today with modern pieces. I also bought the Rachel Comey red dress. I would only buy the 70s caftan in this offering. I live in a beach town so it would be fun to wear.

"Where is her butt?" .... Me. In the mirror. Lack of butt. The struggle is real.

I don’t think I meant she truly had no butt. More so, the fabric was swallowing it all up. But maybe she also has a flat rear. Lol.
