.1.front fork seal your complaining about an issue that has not happened 2.rear shock seals are about about $2.00 each you need 4 they take about 10 mins. to change and are great if you know how to adjust them (setting 2 for 230lbs setting 4 for 2 riders ) 3.jp cycles for extended brake cables ect...get fork extenders. 4.they have a standard bike and california emissions bike you purchased the wrong one your fault. 5.even some aftermarket pipes like vance and Hines use covets over there pipes. 6.your complaining about the fuel injection system that hasn't failed on you ..lol 7. a v twin is a very twin regardless if it's air or water cooled 8.why do you carry a 27mm wrench to change the rear tire? do you carry a spare? 9.Chrome look items is the trend now sadly but it also helps keep weight and price down. 10.seats? everyone changes there seats for better ones on one of my bikes a yamaha 1100 I changed them to saddleman seats. on my sports bike I went custom. 11.head bearings I'll agree with but they should be good for 9k min. 12.sounds like you purchased the bike before you tried it out on the road.your fault..BTW my friend all love there vtx1800 as for me no its to bug for me that's why I went with the vtx1300. thumbs down on a awful review get a yamaha vstar 650 custom not a classic as they have inverted forks as well ...

Owner of a used 05 VTX 1800f here. I've ridden for 40 years and spent about 13 of those on Harley big twins. While the author is pretty nit picky and his points true, I've not been bothered by his issues. Sure the suspension is harsh, it's a 800 lb bike with a shaft. That said its also Very stable. You can bottom out on a deep rut, but the bike stays upright. It is also predictable in the corners down to where you start scraping pegs and shoe leather. So that doesn't bother me and frankly even Goldwings have crap suspension compared to after market front ends. He's right though, it's one way Honda keeps costs down, but every mfg does that, including Harley. The ergos are a little awkward, but hey, no worse than most Harleys and a lot better than most Harleys really. I agree the range is a little limited by the tank, but it's a day cruiser, not a cross country bagger. What the bike does well is perform as a high torque, high profile, high horse power street rod. If you just want a stupidly over the top, fun to ride, beasty of a bike this is it. I plan on riding mine forever, or at least die trying. So take what the author says with a grain of salt and don't be put off by his fault finding. Bikes are a personal thing, your experience will decide the ride so if you want one, don't be put off by this video.

I have the exact same bike as you except mine is not the California model. I've been riding for almost 30 years and this is my eighth bike that I recently bought in all my ridingtenureship. I do agree with you that the suspension is lower than I'd like it to be, however I think hands down the VTX is probably one of the best bikes you can get in this platform. I have owned Harley-Davidsons with thousands of dollars in upgrades that still would not even come close to the power of a VTX 1800. As a matter of fact, I don't remember the last time I had this much fun on a cruiser motorcycle. When I go riding with my friends whom most of them have fifteen hundred and some 1800 many of them cannot even keep up with me. It's not a perfect bike however I would argue I don't think you could get anything remotely faster for this kind of price range.. My main issue with the VTX, is it feels extremely heavy at slow speeds there for this is a bike meant for experienced Riders only. This is not something for a newbie or someone who has just gotten into motorcycling. I also agree with you that the VTX does not handle very well on rough surfaces, however most motorcycles don't do very well on rough roads unless you are on an Enduro or other Dual Purpose motorcycles.

Hello Denys I recently came across this posting by you. I am the proud owner of a 2008 VTX 1800 N (N for neo retro). I have to say this is the best motorcycle I have ever owned, noting that I am a cruiser-jockey, not a superbike-nutter. Mega-reliable, solid on the road, comfortable as an armchair, and enormous grunt when you need it (it's not for nothing that I have named her The Wee Beastie). I use her to ride into work (best ride to work in the world - Chapman's Peak Drive, Cape Town, South Africa - Google it, and weep!), and take her for fabulous long distance cruises on weekends. I will never sell her! BTW - I am subscribed to your Update from Ukraine channel. Keep up the great reporting!

I have a 2003 Honda VTX 1800 R. 150+ thousand miles on the original motor and still whips most modern Vtwins. The most reliable and one of the most powerful twins ever built. IMHO You don’t buy a Honda VTX 1800 because you like the suspension or the way it handles. You buy a Honda VTX 1800 so you can laugh at the guys who spend 40 or $50,000 on a slower motorcycle. LOL!

you obviously don't know how to ride a bike, your one those who "drives my motorcycle". The vtx 1800 is a Damn good bike! Yes there is emission crap on it, it's on all bikes now. Be smart enough to "fix those issues". front fork seals, keeping shock clean will help keep trash/ dirt from rolling seal. when you replace seals switch to a progressive spring. (not very $$). improves that favorite word you like to use..... SUSPENSION!!!

Nice bike with a few minor things you can easily fix to make it pretty much perfect. OR maybe you need a standard bike instead of a cruiser. No one bike can be all things, the VTX is a heavy cruiser that is best suited for slow rides or highway cruises, not very good for carving through the twisties, and the suspension reflects that.

I have two 2003 VTX-1300's. One has 73,000 miles and the other has 64,000 miles. Engines have never been cracked open. With a Mustang seat and V&H pipes, it's hard to beat a VTX for bang-for-the-buck.

First off, your motorcycle is beautiful, nice paint job and clean, I have put well over 100,000 miles on mine and I’m not sure what you are talking about not trusting it in the desert, I’ve driven thru Death Valley Ca in the heat if the summer and other desert locations in California and no problem... I do agree with you that the handle bars are not far back enough and my biggest gripe of this bike is the tiny gas tank for a motorcycle this large, after 130 miles, you better start looking for a gas station quick, but overall I love this bike!

Super powerful looks great, and will run forever like 100 thousand miles and keep going. Only v twin I liked better, and can't really be say liked it better was my Custom bobber- circle track sportster screaming eagle 1200. As for reliability well it was a Harley so 100,000 plus miles not going to happen without major overhauls but was a fast turkey bike also and very fun to ride.

I have the carbureted VTX 1300 and is very reliable, I don't have problems with suspensions and the thing about injection I don't have it. The handlebar is also pretty comfortable. Maybe the model doesn't fit for you, but is a good bike. There is no reason to hate the machine. The only thing I dislike on the bike are the plastic parts, they give a cheap feeling to the bike, so is not very future proof.
@yogi2.0577 жыл бұрын
Relatively new fork seals rarely leak because they are 'bad', but due to road dirt and slime becoming trapped between the fork seal and the fork tubes. The easy cure - periodic maintenance. That situation is easily resolved with a commercial plastic cleaning tool and several circles between the fork seal (dust cover lifted) and the fork tubing. Then re-seat the seal(s) with a few shock bounces on the front end. Job done with little cost & effort.

just so you know, the fuel canister doesnt take away any horse power. Its job is to absorb the fuel vapors and hold the vapors from going to the atmosphere. Once the bike is tarted, the fuel vapors are sucked into the engine.
@DenysDavydov7 жыл бұрын
The Manual shows that the fuel lines goes to the canister and then to the engine, and back to the canister. So maybe I was confused with manual picture. I also got the power reduction information from VTX forum. Maybe I was wrong.

They sold a lot of vtx units and many were bought by people who think that good motorcycle maintenance is polishing chrome and maybe changing the oil. All motorcycles are complex, multi-cellular, organisms that require regular periodic service. Electric bikes may be the solution to the soon-to-be antiquated motorbikes?

Did you buy this bike used? Or possibly neglect it if you bought it new? I have owned mine for about 16 years, I bought it new and I've honestly never had any problem with it at all. It's a heavy bike, but seems perfectly balance to me. I've taken it on long trips and would feel comfortable heading out across the country on it tomorrow. Being water cooled it will run for hours and never overheat, very smooth shaft drive. I weight over 200, a female behind me around 140 and I've never had to adjust the suspension, and of course there's always been plenty of power when I needed it. Honda's are pretty well know for being very well made and good quality, low maintenance bikes. I also have several friends with the 1300s & 1800s VTX, and like me, they're very satisfied with them. I'm sure all makes put out a lemon occasionally, if your bike wasn't neglected, unfortunately it sounds like you got one of the very few from Honda.

If you want a cruiser then it is a lot of bike for the money. I bought it in 2012 as my first bike getting back into biking after a 30 year absence. I bought it for the wrong reasons, my wife said she would be OK riding pillion on it but she has never been near it. It has been reliable and cost me only for service items, a new rear disk and a set of tyres. Tyre choice is limited as the front is an odd size 130/70-17. It has great torque, which is needed to haul it along but while it is real heavy at low speed you don't notice it once on the move. On mine the stock seat was replaced with a touring seat which is comfortable enough. Rear shocks can be pumped up for heavier loads and work OK. I like the shaft drive. Dual disk brakes up front work really well, single disk back is adequate.

Hey phin would you recommend this bike as a first cruiser for an experienced rider?

The suspension is a valid point but did he really complain about moving the handle bars and control cables?!? 🤦🏼♂️

I've seen your videos... I know you're not the evil VTX meanie you portrayed in this video. lol. Quit poking the bears and take us for a ride. Despite the flaws, I love my VTX and know lots of people stuck on much worse... I was bike shopping and couldn't find something I'd rather be riding then my 14 yr old Honda 1800. Peace \/

This video made more views for a day compare to usual one, which has the same views for a month. This was a purpose of it. Maybe I will have some dislikes but I will attract more people for my channel. People like this stuff.

In other words CLICK BAIT. Good luck with that... Just be honest and you'll get views.
@DenysDavydov7 жыл бұрын
Smokin' Joe Well, you may say so. I will be honest. Next video will be about VTX pluses and why they overweight all the minuses. Thank you for the comment.

I've got an '03 1800 R with 100,000 miles. Replaced seat, suspension with progressive springs and works performance shocks. Mustang saddle, champion hard bags and hiway pegs. This is not a rough road bike, so I don't know what you're complaining about. You bought the wrong bike.

i had the vtx 1300 2007 put 75,000 miles on it and i never had a problem with it. But i guess the 1800 is a different animal

This guy knows something about motorcycles the rest of you don't. When I first got my Honda Shadow Spirit 750 home I felt the same thing... why is so much on this bike plastic and fake? Both my fenders are plastic. I knew I was crazy when I bought it, I bought it I knew for the wrong reasons, because it was a pretty and I got a deal on it. The 1980's Hondas and earlier are designed much better. Time will tell... I plan to baby and pamper it so in that condition, it should hold up a lot better... but if it had had to be survivors of abuse like my other Hondas before I got them, there wouldn't be much left of the bike.

Big heavy motorcycle, to heavy for most American males, but Slavic Ukrainian men are among the genetically strongest on earth, and can handle the heft.
