Yeah if i could pick to carbon steels to cover all knife applications I think they would be 8670 and 52100. Both absolutely fantastic

@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoorshow noticeable is edge holding of 52100 over 8670? I found a custom bushcraft blade in 52100 at 62-63rc I had to jump on and it gets here tomorrow. I’ll have to check out something from bear forrest soon thinking of something a little larger and maybe in 8670

@@ShoahBiz according to knifesteelnerds and Dr Larrin Thomas who is a leading metalurgist 8670 has an edge holding score of 1.5/10 like 1095 whereas 52100 has an edge holding score of 2/10. This edge holding score is with ideal heat treat of course, but what ill say is in the bush it is unlikely that you will notice a difference in edge holding, whereas the difference in toughness is greater than the difference in toughness for 8670 being 2 points higher than 52100. Essentially what that means is basically it is unlikely to notice a difference in edge holding OR toughness between these two steels because although neither has good edge holding in a natural environment that is low in abrasive cutting you dont need much edgd holding- and both steels are absolutely at the top of the charts for toughness so if heat treated right either is INSANELY tough.

Impressive. Going to check these out. Eye pro man. I treat people with pieces of metal in their eyes in my ER and that bend could have cased it to slingshot off with decent velocity. Making me nervous to watch.
