Today, Anna reviews three microbrand watches under $1,000 from the likes of Brew, Yema, and Autodromo!
First up, we have the Brew Retrograph Technicolor, a $350 quartz chronograph with a coffee theme behind it. Despite featuring no less than 5 colors on the dial, there's a focus and a clean design behind it that makes it all come together. One of these colors, the yellow, can be found on the seconds track between 30 and 35 seconds, which is widely regarded as the ideal time for an espresso shot. This unique feature is pretty singular when it comes to Brew, and ultimately helps an already highly individual watch stand out all the more.
From there, we move into the world of Yema, with their NavyGraf. A French brand famous for the diver watches of the 1960s, Yema has made a bit of a comeback in recent years. At $749, what you get is a 39mm, 300m water resistant steel case on a beautiful Tropic rubber strap. Its dial features the signature NavyGraf "exclamation point" hour markers, done in what the brand calls "vintage orange" which is probably meant to resemble fauxtina, but it's a bit difficult to tell given the depth of color and its uniformity. It also features an in-house Yema movement, downright impressive at under $1k.
Finally, let's get into the Autodromo. The Group B Safari is a watch that manages to translate all of Bradley's impressive design language that the Group B has helped to establish and push it forward while still keeping things purely Autodromo. It retails for $975, and for that money you get a superbly finished case and bracelet, a sublime green dial, and a Miyota automatic movement. But with Autodromo, it's the design that's the real draw. Mimicking in many ways the dashboard of a vintage Group B rally car, the watch's dial features a highly bold hour and minute track to embody the spirit of the dashboard registers, along with a case and bracelet made out of lightweight titanium, like you might see on the body of one of these cars.
