Thank you for your honest review of Before the Storm. I honestly never understood the life is strange love. The original series and the prequel are both pretty bad in my opinion. Also refreshing to see Yooka-Laylee discussed in 2023. I never hear anyone talk about it lol.

Hey I had the same reaction to subnautica :D it's called bathophobia, and it means 'fear of depths', which is a bit different from thalasophobia, which is a more general 'fear of the ocean'. I get the same feeling looking into long dark tunnels. Subnautica was basically exposure therapy for it XD 10/10 would have panic attack again.

*Sees SIGNALIS in the Thumbnail* *NEURON ACTIVATION* ... Wait, you started your playthrough on SURVIVAL? WHERE YOU DO LESS DAMAGE, TAKE MORE, AND ALL AMMO PICKUPS ARE HALVED? Oh god I feel so bad for you. I'm with you on the "Feeling a unique kind of emptiness" in relation to signalis. Every time I listen to Die Toteninsel (Emptiness) and think about that game's various endings I just... Man. I cry like a baby. I can't get this damn game out of my head, like every part of it to me wants to be known but is too hard to fully comprehend. Like that damn King In Yellow.

@@MertKayKay I respect the balls, but oh my god I'm so sorry! It's good you manage to take the time to play it on your own terms though :3 After playing survival (once I beat the game), I don't think I can play it any other way. The scarcity of resources and how biting some of the situations are just feel too good to me.

Telltale Batman season 2 is marginally better than the first. Its mostly the same railroading but I liked what they did with the Joker. You can either inspire him to become a vigilante like Batman or turn into his normal villain self depending on how supportive or trusting you are with him. He will still snap and become a villain in the end but if you make him a vigilante the reason for his change will be because of how corrupt Amanda Waller is and he loses faith in the system Batman still believes in.

This was really good. Every review was short but to the point. Greta video as always. Also I LOVE MediEvil, one of my favorite games growing up & IMO the grand daddy if what would become Soul-like games. Also I am never gonna play Ghost of Tsushima, i hate being railroaded & i get video games have a cetern level of linier restriction but that's just going too far. Spyro is the best. That is all. Alien Isolation was pretty good IMO at least at the start when it's just 1 Alien hunting you. I liked how close to the original films it felt. Layer game not so great it starts to getting more frustrating. I love that Amnesia: Bunker used the 1 monster hunting you mechanic. If you havent played that I recommend it but as a warning it's one of the scarier games I've played due you MUST keep re-fuiling the generator to keep the lights on. (Also the films dont matter to the experience everyone has their own & theres nothing wrong with that) Lucas... I would be Lucas I love the Witcher III but I agree the wild hunt dosent really do alot in the game. That was something that always erked me a bit. And playing Death March is a NIGHTMARE lol I found I actually had to be a "Witcher" & prepare for fights. Also Toussaint blinded me the first time I traveled there. Funny story about Dante's Inferno, I was only allowed it if my (at the time 6yo) brother was not in the room when I played. So when I played it for the 1st time I told him he cant come in (this upset him because I have never not let him watch before) he kept whining & bemoaning until my mother got annoyed & demanded I let him in. I defended that I was following her rules but she said dosent matter so I let him in & unpaused. First thing that poor boy saw was a demoness open her "hoohaw" & attack me with her prehensile lady dong... he still talks about me playing that game lol

Your fear of continuing to play Subnautica reminded me how I almost wasn't able to finish the VR game How We Soar. Really cool game where you're flying on a phoenix among giant story telling objects - which I played despite my known fear of height and giant objects. 😅 I was fine for the most part though, my fascination with the game was bigger than my fears. Except for this one level that symbolised the author falling into depression or something - the sounds were chaotic and loud, the objects were chaotic, that alone was already kinda unsettling but it also made my two fears really come out. I basically was flying blind, with my head down as if I wanted to bury my face in my phoenix's feathers and just that thought spinning through my mind, like, "Make it stop, make it stop, make it stop!" Somehow I managed to get through that level after all though.

End of Zoe is a DLC that I absolutely loved. You spend the entirety of the main game of RE7 awkwardly defending yourself from the mold monsters with weak attacks and little ammo and then you jump into the DLC and freaking PUNCH THEM TO DEATH WITH YOUR BARE FISTS! And it's somehow faster than shotgunning them.

Disgaea 1 always had all this complicated stuff like the item world to level up individual items and all that nonsense, but I remember it being pretty simple to brute force your way through the game when I played it way way back as a kid, all those extra levels of meta-grinding and nuance were optional for people who really cared. But I guess as the series went on they must have really leaned into the min maxing much heavier than the series started.

Oh man, I hear you on the terrible voice acting requiring you to mute to even get through it. I recently played through the FF7: Crisis Core Remake (more of a remaster, really) and was dumbfounded by how bad the voice acting was. I was like, really impressed by the voice acting in the FF7 Remake, and this had the VAs from that returning, so I was surprised by how painful it was to sit through. Zack’s new voice actor seemed fine at the end of FF7 Remake, but his performance in Crisis Core was just…unbearable sometimes. I had to mute to get through it. Not sure what happened with the voice direction since FF7 RE…Maybe it’s not entirely the actors’ fault. They are using the exact same dialogue from the original Crisis Core, which was your standard awkward JRPG translations. It’s probably challenging to give a convincing line delivery when the lines themselves feel so stilted. Definitely made me realize how much a game’s voice acting effects the overall experience.

So, I was drifting off to sleep until about 4 minutes ago, when I suddenly laughed myself awake. Why? Because I remembered the line 'I'm surprised my vision wasn't constantly clouded by my character's cloudy piss' from the Subnautica review just as I drifted off, and then lost it. So I had to watch this video again. I fuckin love your writing.

as someone who hate plays Life is Strange regularly (i have finished it 6 times) i can tell you that Cloe is not more relatable or fun in the first game. i don't think i hate the game. i think the game and story and characters are amazing... if you took Cloe and/or Max out of the game entirely. i know it's their story and a game about them. i hate that. i want everything else.

@@MertKayKay Yeah. Batman: the enemy within, it covers alot of the complaints you had about season 1. your choices actually have major impact, the characters they introduce are all fleshed out and interesting, and you get a really interesting and unique portrayal of joker that I don't think has been done before. If you haven't played it I definitely reccomend, it and tales from the borderlands are honestly two of the most underappreciated telltale games imho.

Loved the video, as always! It also came out in the most appropriate moment for me, because I'm currently playing through Alien: Isolation and to hear your thoughts on this has been so validating lol. I do agree, to a degree, with the point that enjoying the film(s) somewhat elevates the game, but at the end of the day, the game is either good or it isn't. I think my enjoyment of the aesthetic of the Alien universe has made the crawl through the tight corridors of the game at least slightly more enjoyable than if I was completely new to the IP. However, it definitely overstays its welcome. I am more than halfway through the game, and I know (thanks to the trophy list) that there are still plenty of missions to go still. I always roll my eyes at the end of every mission, because I know that the final thing the characters assure me I need to do to finish this is not the final thing actually. The game's repetitive, its story is mostly driven by circumstance, and the Alien's terror turns annoying very quickly. Something the developers must've been keenly aware of because, relatively quickly, they give the player a flamethrower, which is a get out of jail free card for a Xenomorph encounter. To give credit, the AI is impressive, though it learning from failed attempts adds to the frustration imo, because why the hell did he just randomly approached the bed I was under and snatched me up. Yes it's realistic, but I've watched the same cutscene 76 times already, give me a chance, dammit. Another annoying thing to me is the somewhat unreliable prompt pop-ups. Having to tilt and adjust maniacally just so I can press X to enter a vent is SO frustrating. How many times have I panicked because I couldn't get a prompt to show up with a bunch of enemies on my tail. I am currently playing through a mission that has confiscated my weapons. I was resourceful enough to craft stuff that up to this point has been effective against the enemies that are patrolling the area. Apparently, the game must've artificially made them immune or at least more resistant to force me to be stealthy and it's so annoying. I know it's a stealth game, but if I have the resources to defend myself, let me use them if I so choose. Or at least justify their sudden resilience narratively. One thing I do enjoy is the variety of mini-games they have implemented to unlock doors etc. They're tense, and the diversity makes them much more enjoyable. At the end of the day I do enjoy this game but it is such a trudge, and so many missions have made me feel relief not because I've overcome a challenge, but rather because I've gone past another frustrating rode block. Anyway, thank you for creating this space for me to air out my grievances with this game lol, and sorry for the rant. Again, great video. Love your stuff.

6:47 ("Disgaea 5") Geez. While you said you ultimately liked the game by the end, my mind goblins can't help but find the review to be quite negative and damning overall. From the aesthetic, the writing, the characters, the gameplay...sounded like you hated just about everything. Like you liking it was a pure accident born from a combination of stockholm syndrome and sunk cost fallacy. I think I'm just going to have to come to terms that this is just how these types of games are viewed out here. Time and time again, that's just how it is it seems. Anyway, but yeah, GreenZSaber is absolutely nuts. I don't know how it does it but he speedruns getting platinums for nearly every game he plays, even multi-dozen hour RPGs, and does so quite easily. I remember using one of his playthrough guides for "Bunny Must Die: Chelsea & the 7 Devils") and he beat two particularly difficult bosses both on his first try whereas it took me roundabout 6 hours to beat them...each. As the saying goes, regular folks should never compare themselves to geniuses, at least if you want any sense of self worth to remain after. 1:48:06 ("Terminator Salvation") I remember playing this well over a decade ago. Borrowed it from my local library back when I was a teen. It wasn't great but I wasn't bothered since it was free and it's not like my standards are particularly high apparently. It was even my first platinum trophy since it was so relatively easy to do. Now I'm neck deep into the hobby. 2:37:45 ("ICEY") Darn it...I liked "ICEY". It has its moments but I thought it was fine for what it was. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you only ever heard about it as a quick platinum recommendation then. Given my terrible luck with liking the wrong games, that's probably the only reason why people even care about it in the first place.

It's me, I am the person who thinks that Undertale/Deltarune are the greatest games of all time! It's a shame that you didn't like it that much or didn't finish it, some pretty wild stuff happens after the part where you stopped. But I get it, it's definitely an acquired taste of a game. For me Undertale and Deltarune have touched me on an emotional level that not much else has, but if your not into it then it will probably come off as cringe or something. Would love to hear your thoughts on Deltarune as well one day if your up to it, I personally like it even more then Undertale and I feel like it's different enough that you might get something out of it. The story and characters feel a little more grounded in an interesting way despite most of the characters still being monsters and there's a slightly more pessimistic and melancholy vibe to everything. It also changes up the game mechanics in a way that adds a bit more depth. Right now there are only the first 2 chapter available but they super long, even with only 2 chapters it feels almost as long as Undertale and they are free.

I will say if you like the concept of Fallout but were massively disappointed by the story in FO4 then maybe try Fallout New Vegas again. I'm one hundred percent biased because it was the first game I ever actually finished but it is definitely has the strongest narrative out of the bunch. It still for the most part lacks nuance I mean the main bad guy faction are literally just slavers that larp. However unlike FO4 it actually has a feeling of weight like your choices will affect the outcome of the world around you and the way it sprinkles in the lore is solid (Vault 22 will make you shit your pants). The game as a whole is pretty good janky ass bugs aside (seriously save every time you get a chance this thing crashes a lot even on good hardware). Also the DLC for it was all pretty fun.

How to enjoy fallout if you started with fallout 4: Get new Vegas + all dlc Install one of those mod collections that adds back all the cut content and unbugs it a bit and makes things easier on the modern eyes. Take you and your 53 mods and enjoy.

If you think of nuance specifically in terms of morality, then yes, the Legion lack nuance. But saying the narrative as a whole lacks nuance is a huge disservice to factions like the NCR and the Brotherhood, and the varied characters, moralities and beliefs within them. The Legion is notoriously underdeveloped due to time constraints. Also, comparing FO4 to NV isn't really fair since they're made by entirely different teams. FO1, 2, and NV are very different games from Bethesda's Fallout. My head-canon is that Bethesda's Fallout is in an alternate universe :)

For Visage, I played it in early access and again full release. It uses the most subtle of hints to guide you, and picking up on them is so easy to miss that it just ends up feeling frustrating before you know exactly what you're looking for. I did, however, find it terrifying. Especially the camera flash bit.

Another great compilation of reviews. Given the amount of them over 6 months, I can understand why the intermissions were omitted this time around (and probably for the future ones, too). Anyways, onto my comments for games I've experienced before: - Goat Simulator is definitely a game that puts the comedy in the hands of the player, definitely a sandbox through and through with a bunch of setpieces ready for you to find your own fun. It follows a philosophy of "if it isn't gamebreaking, leave it in" so that the bugs of the models and interactions between objects are basically intended so that it'll get a laugh from the unpredictability of random model glitching. I never got to play any of the DLCs since I was out of the game around the time they were released, but the floor collision issue you brought up does sound like a bad one, and the band-aid that is the reset level button isn't much of a help for that. Goat Sim definitely had its moment, and still apparently does have its moment what with Goat Simulator 3 existing, but you get out of it what you put in, for sure. - I, too, grew up playing Spyro: Year of the Dragon, so hearing about Reignited was very nice after the success of the N.Sane trilogy. It was fun to experience the first two games with this new coat of paint and with some extra features here and there, but there's also the same issue that crops up that N. Sane had: the game mechanics are consistent for whichever game is played, so that meant you can't do the extra hover at the end of a glide in Spyro 1, meaning you have to be more precise with your jumps. I do agree that the charm of the original PS1 games is something that couldn't be kept with the shiny polish of Reignited, and I think Hunter isn't as dopey as he was back then, but overall it's something you can live with as the main games are as solid as they were back then. Also I think I remember hearing that Year of the Dragon was a rushjob since they wanted it to release in time with the actual year of the Dragon that year, and that makes it one of those rare cases of a rushed game that is fondly remembered to this day. - Yooka-Laylee was something that seemed like it would give people what they were missing from the big Banjo drought that happened, but the end product showed that they catered too much to the Tooie level design rather than the Kazooie level design. There's so much world to explore that it's almost like they should've shrunk the size of the maps down and have the collectibles more close together rather than lean on "Hey, you can make the worlds bigger and have more stuff to do! How fun, this is!" I don't even remember how much I did in my file back in the day, I'm pretty sure I made it to the 5th world but I for sure didn't get to the final boss fight, I had put the thing down and left it to sit in the steam library. It's like you have to hit a sweetspot of not too long but not too short to explore each world to the fullest, and I think maybe they should have instead split the worlds up into a couple more smaller ones rather than 5 big mega-marts with your toddler-sized self. - Couple quick ones, I did play a bit of the original Overcooked solo, that's a test of multitasking if I've ever played one, and it would definitely be more entertaining if you had other people to get shit done. The original version also is pretty obvious with how much of a stock unity project it was, to almost a comical degree, but that's not a rag on the game since it gives it some charm. And then Fallout 4 is a game that I put _some_ time into in the past, only really getting as far as Nick Valentine joining the party, but I feel like I didn't give it a good enough shot since I had limited time to play it. Was initially a friend's copy that I was playing, and then I was unable to continue that file, meaning I had to buy it for myself if I needed to continue it, and now I'm in a state where my laptop hardly handles it and the steam deck froze a few minutes into gameplay with no idea why that was (I'm sure there's troubleshooting I can just do to fix that and try again). Overall, though, I've always been more interested in the Fallout side over the Elder Scrolls side, so that's my big factor into giving it another shot, but who knows when that will be. - Alright, lastly, there's Borderlands 1. I started my dip into the series with 2 and I fell in *love* with that game, so eventually I got around to playing the first game as a blind playthrough on my channel. Playing it through, there were definitely sorely missed features and some odd mechanics that never returned after it, and by the end of the playthrough I did, I found it okay but it's nowhere near the favourite of the series. After that playthrough ended, I gave the other classes a try in my own time, getting more used to the types of weapons in the game and learning more about how things work, and I can definitely see the aspects of why people like this game, but I'll still hold my copy of BL2 to my heart over it. The whole characterisation being secluded to mission text is a big issue when it comes to trying to have memorable characters. There's so much that can show up on some of those that it feels like you have a paragraph's worth of time every few minutes if you wanted to get the most out of it. Then also picture someone in my shoes who had played 2 before 1 and went in expecting all the dialogue to happen as you go through quests. Who knows, maybe they'll accidentally skim over important lore bits. As for the DLCs, they each have their fun parts in them, but my biggest gripe about them is that there is only *one* fast travel location for each one of the DLCs. Fine when it comes to Moxxi's underdome, _not_ fine when you have to quit out mid-mission and come back to find you need to travel all the way back there. If Borderlands 1 had the same method of saving where you just needed to enter a map and the position will be saved like how BL2 onwards does it, things would be much better, but alas, that's just one of the quirks of BL1. And side note, interesting that the concept of storing equipment that you don't need to carry with you anymore was only implemented once Underdome came out and added the bank. I guess that's why the base game gave you a good 30 extra slots for the backpack to begin with, huh. And that's me done for now, apologies for supplying my thesis statement on Borderlands, but when it's a series _that_ near and dear to you, you'll have opinions that extensive. Can't wait for the next one by the end of the year, I just know it'll be another great bit of background noise.

I’ve been subscribed for a while and did not know about these compilations. Really fun! I also love that you are able to reuse stuff you’ve already put a ton of work in to multiple audiences. Creating content for people can be rather demanding. What are the reviews’ ordering? Is it Patreon release dates? Personally I would’ve liked them being separated by genre, BUT if it that would be annoying work, no need to bother hahahah I appreciate your work and effort either way, so I don’t mean to come off as demanding. Cheers! Edit: I’ve never heard “Disgaea” being pronounced like that, but it sorta makes more sense than “”Disgaia.”” Great. Now, I no longer feel confident in how to say this game’s name lol.

Ok I know that it is a real moment from me that I just saw the list of games and clicked on your thoughts on Batman Telltale but I would disagree that the idea is faulty or that Warner Bros is to blame. I agree its a letdown but I think Telltale is to blame here with how little it took risks when it comes to not being willing to actually save Harvey or Penguin from being evil as that was originally the plan but they themselves thought it wouldnt work. As we can see by the second season, WB does actually allow Telltale to take risks with the story. However its a shame you got bored with the story cause theres some AMAZING stuff hidden there that twists Batmans mythos as something fresh and we rn see other Batman IPs take inspirations from it like the 2022 Pattinson movie. Thomas being a crooked crime lord is a great internal conflict as it recontextualises why Batman was created, the games politics are pretty interesting as the socialist themes of the villains motivations are pretty compelling but once again by the end it devolves into a generic taking down the bad guy story. Hope you still give the second season a shot as it currently has mine and a lot of other peoples favourite interpretation of the Joker

I played it maybe a month later and oh god i completely agree with everything, except the fact that amanda being ellen’s daughter doesn’t matter, as it does fucking matter considering the only reason why she’s here is coz she wanted to find out what happened to her and this was her only chance.

I am spiritually connected to the "Ghost of Tsushima" review. I put 8 hours into that game (obviously, this must not have been nearly enough), and I'm almost positive about 94% of that time was either cutscenes, or walking to cutscenes (cutscene on horse basically), or a combat related cutscene followed by, and interspersed with, the other 6% which almost counted as combat. "8 Hours" probably isn't even accurate. I tried about that much, two different times thinking maybe the loud pack hit too hard on the first run, and maybe I just wasn't appreciating the nuances. Or some other random justification for thinking it felt like a bag of old hats. Thankfully, I got it for free. I hate that game. I do not understand the love for it. It isn't even accurate to the old ideas of "samurai". Just thinking about that game makes me sad.

I think Ghost of Tsushima is a bit better than you give it credit for. I certainly don’t think it’s ass, but I agree. So many people holding it up as not only GOTY, but also as one of Sony’s best confounds the hell out of me. I think that at least part of its success was in spite of The Last of Us Pt2. You know how the people who are categorically likely to dislike anything on the grounds of “woke” tend to weaponize the things they prefer that released in a similar window? I think that happened with Ghost of Tsushima.
