It may very well be impossible to make a successful WW2 triple A shooter today. People don't want a game about WW2, they want a game about the image they have of WW2. Omaha beach and stuff. But we've been there before a thousand times already, in games, in movies, on the internet ; developers as artists have to innovate, deliver different experiences. This is important to make the game appealing, intriguing as BF1 was. WW2 has been handled a thousand different ways by a thousand video games, which have set expectations. You either deliver a bland dumbed down game that people will play once and then forget, labelling it "generic WW2 game n°3654653", or you try to find a niche gameplay (Red Orchestra, World of Warships, Bomber crew, Radio General, Post Scriptum...) which a triple A game can't afford, as niche gameplays only draws niche audience. BFV tried to go both ways at the same time, and the final result could please noone. I liked the idea of going to battlefields less known to the typical american audience (Netherlands, Norway etc.), but then why ruin this attempt at authenticity with, well, you know what I'm talking about, all the things it this game that made it not feel like WW2 ? Where BFV could have succeeded was in showing how some unsung battles were just as epic, interesting and exciting to relive as Omaha or Stalingrad ; yet it failed. BF1 by contrast had succeeded in conveying how this was the first Modern war, with an unbelievable clash in tradition and modernity resulting in almost steampunk technology.

I see Battlefield V as a game of poor planning, implementation and experimentation. Initially the game was rushed and little thought was given to the future. Then when the live service started, there was a huge shortfall in content Battlefield fans actually wanted. At this point, I feel DICE started to use BFV as an experimentation point, implementing ideas/features to see what dedicated fans liked/disliked/would accept/would reject... creating an even more confusing mess of ideas. The whole project lacked direction and clarity. It's what happens when there's no time to make something and there's no one strong enough in charge to make important decisions about what should and shouldn't be done.

The soldiers aren’t even wearing the right outfits, the colors are ALWAYS shiny, the base maps have the same colors and environments, and the whole thing feels off. TL;DR Play Battlefield 1

Gamers like you are the problem. You are ready to share your opinion even before watching the video. In other words, you make judgment without having all the facts. Did you do the same with BFV? The only Battlefield I actually got hyped for in a long time being a WW2 game, such a shame as I stopped playing a week after launch and essentially never tried it again aside from the big updates. I think bf5 lost his identity...for me it didn't feel like a WW2 setting, play hell let loose or post scriptum those have the feeling of the era. Bf5 felt like a COD wanna be WW2. They should of slow down the gameplay drastically and have great lines of defence and attack. Not a gun fest with enemy spawning everywhere around you and constantly get shot in the back. Snipers felt too powerful again in this title, barely no skill and no bullet drop and no close competitor at range.

Here's my take. I maybe one of the few who found this game in the end O K. Obviously im heartbroken it didnt do what we all wanted (Okinawa, D-Day, Eastern Front, Proper Outfits in the beginning) but I will continue to keep playing. One reason being is that I adore the Pacific maps, its like 1943 but with great graphics. Another reason is that I still have alot of fun with the game, even if its flawed af. But I hope DICE and EA learned alot from this and that theyll make Battlefield 6 a masterpiece.

Dice lost interest after the backlash of the first trailer reveal, everything from there on out were lies or silence. I get it, they crunched with only a year of development and then people called out their bs. But, seriously; the way they handled feedback throughout this “bug fixing service”, refusing to even listen to their own “game changers” claiming they know better, or excuse the lack of team balancing with “the tech just isn’t there” made me loose interest and faith in every project coming forward. The deluxe edition mirrors how this game went down in the books as a meme at every press event. Huge YTs tried to make BF a big compelling competitive e-sport game only to be shown the middle finger. It still bogles my mind on how you could mess up such a versatile setting. like, It's WWII! rushed or not, you can't f*ck it up! even with the most minimal effort you cant have your game ending up looking like a steampunk retrofuture universe. the source material is endless, and yet someone, some dipsh*t at DICE or EA or wherever the hell thought that the reveal trailer was a perfect representation of WWII.
