The jamón bit was hilarious, but, for reference, you’re supposed to “peel” the outer fat layer like you would an orange skin and keep it. Then, once you’re done slicing as much jamón as you can eat, use that same fat to cover the opened ham before you put it back in the sack. This will keep it fresh for longer, and prevent it from drying out. Also, this is general advice in case anybody decides to get one of those jamón cutting devices, using a chainmail glove is always recommended, because those knives are sharp and your non-dominant hand has to go in a vulnerable position to keep hold of the jamón as you slice it. Cheers!
@martagomez95154 ай бұрын
still have a scar in my thum for not being carefull, touched the bond didnt need any stiched because of how clean it was. nevertheless nothing is going to stop me from eating jamon. In spain even the cheap ones are too good to resist jajajajajajjaja (laughts in jamon)
@Y0G0FU4 ай бұрын
get a Hamon stand with a steeper angle and you dont need to endanger your hand ^^ If the Knife is sharp enough it just glides through and you can pick up the slices once the knife is no longer at risk to cut your other hand :)
@Agamemnon23 ай бұрын
I was wondering how to keep the cutting surface from getting too dry since even in a restaurant setting you're unlikely to finish off the whole leg in an evening. There's a company selling these kind of hams in Finland and some of theirs go all the way up to 995€, I'd love to try just a few slices.

They don't come up with the ideas much anymore except Mike, they've ribbed him somewhat recently that he should have an advantage on a surprise challenge since he's part of the team that decides on and plans the episodes. I know Jamie helps on the business side somehow since he mentioned working on spreadsheets while waiting for Pass it On a year or two back. I think a great game would be to have them all solve a puzzle to make dishes based off their strengths, but all the clues are hidden behind their weaknesses so they have to rely on the others, like ordering words for a clue on glasses of sour drink in order of sourness that Ben can't taste, write out a clue in the colorblind test dots that Jamie can't read, I know some of the guys can also read languages the others can't so some clues could hide behind language barriers, maybe even add in some math equations that help you number the order of steps in the recipe/course order. I like watching a good team based struggle and it could be like a scavenger hunt or 'locked room' challenge.

A ham holder (or jamonero) in a Spanish household is not as weird as you think! Specially in Christmas time, many houses have their jamón ready to prepare some slices for the fancy meals to come. A jamón leg is expensive, yes, but considering it takes time to cut every piece, you tend to eat less and savour it more! Also, you can use the remaining bone for your stocks!

I realized that not only do I take a bus to work, but I also have cats, so bringing the ham home wasn't an option. I gave it to the security guard in the building I work in, and she loved it. As a California native, I was visiting the coast earlier this year to get some cooler weather and I had lunch in a pub with my family in Mendocino. The lady serving us was describing what wine they had and called what they had from California as cheap low quality stuff rather than something good from Italy or France and I just gave her this look of “What?”. I’ve been to Napa valley and my mother would go with my father before he passed to some wineries there to do tastings, along with being back some, so I’m pretty darn familiar and know we’re one of the better exporters of wine in the world. I have no idea how you work in a pub IN California and think California wine is bad and cheap stuff. You can find low quality cheap stuff but what she was describing as such was not.

I liked Mike's gift till I saw the other two... I hope he gets a brilliant gift in a future episode . (No, wine tasting kit he also got doesn't count, because that was clearly a plug for the live stream he'll be in anyway.) Still, the card game looks fun. Might put that on my Christmas list. :)

Ever since his dream dish episode, which was atrocious, I've started noticing Mike is often getting the short end of the stick. Takes a lot of the enjoyment out of watching.

Jamie definitely had that intense 'eyes glazed over pretending to listen' look while Ben talked about wine. Get that man a whisky.

I love Jamie dancing with excitement! To be fair, I would have done exactly the same thing. 😁 I would have hauled it home any way I had to. Planes, trains, automobiles, whatever I could make work.

Will the names of the wines be released for those outside the UK so that we can try to source them ourselves?

I was off on the ham carving setup by a factor of 10 which was a pretty pleasant surprise. Definitely the best deal of em imo

What about gifts for foodie kids, kids who are making dinners etc with parents and grandparents. And teens?

I appreciate Mikes positivity but I kinda wish he would judge everything more truthfully, he seems to absolutely, completely and totally love everything he ever tastes 😂

Love the Go nuts for donuts game!! Not food related, but I am a huge fan of Exploding Kittens card game right now lol it's a fun laugh

As someone who does not drink alcohol (for personal reasons), that takes two of the gifts out of the running. I'm incredibly danger prone and have DID, so that put the amazing gift Jamie got out too. So I'm left with the Go Nuts for Doughnuts. I love the wine tasting kit you've created, but it's as useful to me as rain on the beach. I'll still support your other ventures though!

That wine tasting experience is amazing. I lived in the UK for years, I would definitely shell out 30 quid for that, fantastic idea.

I would honestly love to see an episode that is just exploring food based board and card games. Get togethers for me and my friends are food + game nights 99% of the time.

Gonuts for Donuts is a fantastic game, perfect for palette cleansing between gigantic games.
