I'm glad at least someone is talking about golden hope again. I really loved this level when I first saw a showcase of it and loved it even more when I played it for myself. I was sad when I saw how quickly the popularity of this level died down.

im not 100% certain but i think the level was built without sfx and memes and so they were added after the level was finished, if thats the case then the seperate sfx song would have just made it easier to place memes in the level

I've begun to realise that I'm no longer the target audience for most modern levels. TLDR: I hate this level, it feels like a well decorated recent tab level, why is *gameplay* secondary in my video *game* and I feel like I'm going crazy because the level I played looks different to the footage I see of it. Yes, I've completed it and it should have been an auto level. I hate this level. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had learning a level and attempting to apply what I learned. This level is a perfect example of what I hate about modern levels: the visuals take precedence over the gameplay, which it never should. The blind jumps, transitions, and even the fade to black while trying to do a straight fly with a swing with one of the worst transitions in the level right before was just awful to try and get past (Your gameplay doesn't seem to have it, and this just fuels my theory than there's a touch trigger SOMEWHERE that makes the level so much worse that I constantly hit). The ball with the anonymous face feels so RNG that I got maybe 10 attempts past it in normal with over 200 attempts in normal. And the boss with the reference to -SIRIUS- had two different fights it could be, right? I'm not crazy, right? And the problem is, I couldn't even enjoy the art. Everything blazes by so fast and I have to focus so hard on a actually playing the level that I don't even see half of the really well done art. The gameplay is maybe an 8 or 9 star, but because you can't see it the difficulty jumps and just doesn't feel fun. Levels made primarily for KZbin videos are almost never fun to play. I feel like everyone who defends this level hasn't actually played it and just watched the Nexus video. Did the playtesters use noclip? Did they actually play it? Seriously, am I the crazy one? The best counter to this level I can think of is Unity by TriAxis and Funnygame. It's themed super well with fantastic art, just like Golden Hope, but you can actually read the gameplay. Even a more recent example could be Change of Scene. I can see what's happening and the art is amazing. That should be the gold standard, but so many people treat it like a twice a year occurance. I think this kind of level is why so many players feel nostalgia for the 1.9 days, when levels needed good gameplay to be popular or, well, GOOD. If this level was auto, I'd have zero problems with it. But when you actually have to play it, you NEED to have gameplay that is fun or people won't play it and gas it up because they watched a video about it. I genuinely don't know how you enjoyed it. 6:56 Saying that this level can rival non April Fool's levels is really sad, because I have to agree in a bad way. This level is on par with old easy demons, and even then I can tolerate those to an extent (And for the people that hate them, it's on par with map pack levels). And then saying it's one of the best 2.2 levels? I guess I have different expectations for what a good level is.

@@jeffreylastname6863 Far more sight readable than Golden Hope. I just replayed Unity and the only part that isn't is the very beginning. The others just require good reaction time. I can't react to anything in Golden Hope. I just had to pray my click pattern was good, which it wasn't but because I couldn't see what I was doing I couldn't improve it. Genuinely, am I crazy for thinking that Golden Hope is such a bad level because the gameplay sucks and I can't see what I'm doing at all?

Counterpoint: April Fool's level. It's not that serious man, it's a montage parody. Of course it looks like a well decorated recent tab level and of course the gameplay is ass (even though NIS seems to like it which, hard disagree on that as well). I still rate it 10/10 just based off how well they nailed what they wanted to do (and out of nostalgia). If you want to play a good level, there are millions to choose from. I'm sure there are even a good few modern levels that might scratch that itch for you.

@@ecl1pse-idky731 Why does the level being an April Fool's level mean that it's okay to have bad gameplay? Does this mean that Halloween levels, or Christmas levels, or Valentines Day levels are allowed to have bad gameplay just because they are themed around one day of the year? And now with the NCS gauntlets out, I find those levels to be even worse than this one. I only enjoyed playing two levels in the second gauntlet, and all the others were awful to play (ranging from 'how the hell was this picked?' to 'I guess I can see how this was picked'). It's 100% possible for a level to be well decorated and have good gameplay that is readable and learnable. Examples for good levels themed in a similar way are provided in my comment. Seriously, please answer this question: *_is this level any better for not being auto? Is it any better for having gameplay?_* I think it actively worsens the experience and makes the level completely non-rate worthy. I'll take it seriously, because I love this game and want the created levels to be good.
