Reviewing GOODMAN STEAKHOUSE in LONDON! WAS IT WORTH IT?

Today, I decided to take a visit to Goodman steakhouse in London to review their steak. Now, Goodman is an extremely popular restaurant in the capital has been rated one of London's best steakhouses. It's quite pricy but was it worth it? Lets find out!

Hi Gary. Just want to let you know that my Dad is house-bound due to medical problems (and other things) and I've introduced him to your channel. On my day off I go round and make him some food and set up the laptop for him. He loves watching your posts while he eats as it reminds him of the days when he used to go out for a meal and a few bevs with his old pal Sid (now deceased) and makes him feel he's got out of the house for a bit. Thanks for brightening his last days up, pal. Great post as always. Steak looked well rested, no risidual juice flowing out. As u say, bit of greenary such as spinach in butter with a squirt of lemon wouldn't have been out place. Defo a special occasion place tho' for my wallet. 👍

Oh my heart sank when cameraman showed us the steak. What a huge difference a little garnish would have made. I really hope they watch your honest review and the comments. It would cost them pennies. Tasty looking food, unfortunately out of my league. Cracking review lads. 👍

Hmmm I actually disagree on that. I like to see the steak as the main event and everything else separate. As someone who eats salad with their steak(low carb eater) I prefer to add sides/greenery when I decide to. Especially as medium rare will still contain some juices after a correct resting time and I prefer my sides fresh and crunchy sans juice or dressing. It did look lovely so planning to take a visit 🥩☺️

Hi Gary and Mr Cameraman, a first class clip as always with some excellent close ups of the meat etc from the cameraman. The meal i feel was fair but lacked the wow factor that i expect for that kind of money. Australian steak, not come across that before, but it certainly looked like a quality cut. Next time you go for an expensive one my friend, you most try the Wagyu id love your opinion on that beauty. Chris.

As you said it was just a pity about the plate being a little bare due to no sides. It is something I always go on about is how expensive these places are ,but on this occasion IF there was a side included would have made the experience and value for money so much better. It is really the downside to a lot of up market restaurants that they try to squeeze every last pound out of customers. Also service charges are just a pure rip off. If the service is good they get a tip that is deserved, they have even started doing it at take aways .

Yes, it’s always “discretionary”. Look that up in a dictionary. At those prices the service should be superb AND enough to pay the staff a decent wage.

Another great video! Glad you had a good experience. I went to Goodmans for the first time this year, but was really disappointed. The service was OK. The wagyu steaks we ordered were around £100 each but were unseasoned and tasted of nothing. The sides were just OK. The interior was really nice but it wasn't worth the price. I'd much rather spend the money at Hawksmoor. If you haven't been to Hawksmoor, the best location (for views, etc.) is Canary Wharf and the best food is probably at Air Street. Canary Wharf Hawksmoor at night would make for some great video. Be sure to book the bar afterwards.

Yet another fantastic episode by Gary. You know the food is mouthwatering when Gary gets tongue tied. I've frequented at Goodman, their Steak selection is broad and encompasses a multitude of palettes. I especially like the selection of cuts and weights available. Steak'n'chips.Cooked well.What else to say ? Honestly i thought the steak was more rare than medium rare.Chips enough to taste, but not count. Now,sides. If as a treat,and let's face it, a daily local its not.Yes salad or a good green vegetable would add something to the meal,as well as the cost😢 However as my late dad used to say " don't spoil the ship for half a pennyworth of tar "❤ Go for it😊 Gary you and CTP found another good looker in that eaterie. That steak was perfectly done and at last a proper serving of chips...not 7 thick things in a basket! I feel for that price they could put 2 tomato halves on there and it would really help give the plate a bit of colour. I agree with the 8 and I would certainly go there for a special occasion.

Been there a few times, the food is spot on, excellent service, great ambience, but I agree with your 8 out 10. Had better steaks in London and in fact cheaper, not much cheaper, but cheaper. But it's difficult to fault them as everything is spot on, you drank water, but if you add a bottle of wine on top, for two people you're quickly paying 170 - 200£. It's not bad for London but still when every side is between 6 and 10£, the bill is racking up quite quickly. But another fantastic review, mate and have a wonderful rest of your Sunday. Gary, myself and pals are going on Friday to thei Goodmans, we do it once a year around Christmas, we tend to get a few different cuts and share, its top end meat and the team really know what they are serving, Once you get into the wines then the bill jumps substantially.Glad you reviewed it and perfect timing, might have to try the Australian this time as it looked spot on. I like my steak like sex Extremely rare Why did Han Solo cry during his steak dinner? Because it was Chewie. The waiter asked me how I like my steak. I said rare. He said you're in luck, today's special is panda. What happened to the cow that refused to become steaks? IT was grounded. I cooked a medium-rare steak for my friend, and he said, “I like it Well Done.” I said, Thanks buddy. That means a lot to me! If the service charge is not mentioned on the menu , then do not pay it . Feel free to tip as you see fit. If it is mentioned on the menu , then it becomes mandatory, and unless something is wrong then you are obligated by law to pay it.

Problems with service charges Usually, restaurants either leave the service charge entirely to the discretion of the customer or automatically add a charge to the bill. According to UK law, service charges added by the restaurant are entirely optional. If you aren't happy with the service or if you'd prefer to calculate your own tip, you can ask for it to be removed and for a new bill to be printed.

Hi Gary Great review as always. I have been fortunate enough to have been several times and couldn’t agree more with your review. Like you I had rib eye, and thought I had died and gone to heaven it was fabulous. Also, when the piggy bank was empty we had the set menu, 3 courses for £31, and obviously the portions were smaller, but the quality was the same, absolutely superb food. Afterwards we went across to the market and had Humble Crumble, which was a great choice for dessert.😒❤️👍

As someone who’s been to Goodmans, far too many times, there are 4 things that you should order from the menu. Prawn Tempura starter Bone in, grass fed rib-eye (belted Galloway my pref) Truffled Mac & cheese Cookie Sunday Glad you enjoyed it. The steak is the best in London in my opinion - they use something called a Josper grill which gives perfect charcoal and taste.

I’ve eaten in Goodman’s in the West End before on several occasions, going back a few years. It was always incredible food. A bit pricey, but incredible. I also dined in Hawksmoor which has a higher profile, but the steak was really poor compared to Goodmans. If you want to treat yourself to a really good steak, I would always recommend Goodmans.

Nice video once again Gary. Phew that is a treat type of price point, but why not! Agree perfectly cooked for medium rare, at that price it would be sent back if they got that wrong! As I think I pointed out in one of your earlier videos, the bit I am saving to last is that crispy strip of fat ! / Your filming and audio is really very impressive - I like the camera shots. / Since the Elizabeth line has been available Reading to CW is so simple, so this is another added to the "special occasion" list. Another sublime video You put yourself open to criticism when you visit these expensive places. However they charge what they can and I dare say in that location they could even charge a bit more and still not see a significant downfall in takings. A classy establishment that I feel personally lives a "little" bit on its name these days

Hello from Alberta Canada! Famous for our ‘Alberta Beef’. I’m sorry Gary but if I was treating myself to a once a year treat, my expectations would definitely be higher than the meal that was served to you. You didn’t mention the cut of beef but it looked like a run of the mill sirloin. It looked so sad sitting on a bland white plate with a side of fries to go with it. You obviously were paying for the ambience, atmosphere and location of the restaurant but certainly not for the presentation or quality of food.

Wow, a lone vegetarian main dish on the menu! I'd have gone for 3 portions of Mushrooms at £25.50 🙂 13.5% service charge. Guess somebody will see that and raise theirs to 14.5%. It's like a standing charge on an energy bill. You could have simply paid for salad though, rememeber, you actually paid £6 for your chips that everyone would expect to be included. You got free mustard 🙂 Mr Cameraman. great camera work and editing.

Great video as always Gary, I agree with the lack of salad etc, it’s my pet hate to order Absoloutley everything to fill your plate up, surely some salad & onions wouldn’t go a miss. May I recommend Alec’s in Brentwood? Very high end food and for the location and quality, very reasonable priced but can be expensive

Thanks for another brilliant video, Gary! I did feel like looking at the state that it was just a fraction undercooked for medium rare. I do totally agree with you though that they should’ve been some garnish on the plate just to make it look more attractive. I don’t agree also of having to pay extra for peppercorn sauce. That should come with the steak at that price and the chips look good. The options for extra salad seem very very expensive. As you said it’s for a special occasion because if you had a bottle of wine and some dessert and a bit of salad with it, you’ll be getting close to £80-£100 which is really expensive. Looking forward to the next video, brilliant stuff!

cracking video mate🙌. I dunno how you continue the review when the food is in front of you. My mouth was watering just looking at the steak🤣 i'd be slobbering all over the place .I know it's high end dinning when your sitting with a water mate instead of a cola😉 Hopefully someone recognised you from your channel and has a look your thoughts on the presentation of the food. A tomato and a few mushrooms would go a long way at a low cost👍. Oh! well look on the bright side folks don't have to worry about putting on weight eating in that establishment😊

To me? High prices means high rents, rates and decor. I tend to go for family run businesses as opposed to those who have famous names above above the door. When I served up steaks in my pubs? I would do a peppercorn sauce with sliced mushrooms and a dash of whisky for flavour. It was a big hit with my regulars. If your willing to get up early and visit Smithfield or Billingsgate markets to buy your produce? You can't go wrong. Going back to the 60'' and 70's when I was very young? I spent many years learning abour bidding for fresh produce. My dad instilled in me the way to buy at auction. He could look at a stone of fresh fish on offer and relate it to sales, all in his head. I loved Billingsgate Market. There was a great atmosphere about it all. Now? On a recent visit? It's all changed. The hustle and bustle, the sound of bidders has all disappeared. Porter's have now gone. It's just not the same market I was brought up in. Me and my dad would do a 160 mile round trip to Billingsgate every week. I was expected to be ready by 5am for the journey and still do 8hrs in the shop. We would also buy fish from Grimsby and other fish ports.Today that's not a real option. The cost would be too high or your delivery would get stolen. Long gone are the day's of cheeky banter between customers and seller. Long gone are the day's of 'wet fish shops' that sold all types of fish. You name it we had it. Saturday was always our shell fish day. Cockles, mussels, jellied eels, whelks, shrimps, scollops, crab and lobsters were on sale. Apart from crabs and lobsters they were sold by the pint or half pint. Crabs and lobster was delivered live and cooked fresh to order. That was my main job come Saturday. Another big seller was live eels we had several old baths full of them. A customer could pick the eels they wanted and a few customers would pay to get them jellied up. Try that kind of service today? It would cost a fortune. When I visit a store with a fish counter? There's not much of a range of fish that I recognise. It's mostly caught in the Caribbean or in the case of Basa, Thailand or Vietnam, from rivers that are totally polluted. Again? Going back to the day. My dad was well in with a local trawler Captain. We would get a call letting us know that he had a few stone of fresh plaice. My dad would but it all up. When delivered the fish were still flapping around on the counter. It didn't take long for a huge queue to appear. Back then there was 3 fish shops in Hove's main shopping and they all did a good trade. One reason my dads shop did well? We had our own smoke hole. We smoked all our own fish, except kippers. If I could go back in time? I would go back to the 70's, Although I ended up in the Army, I really miss my fishmonger days.
