They are so misunderstood little things so loving and friendly miss my two Bubble and Squeak so very much, wantt to get more but find it so so hard when they pass Squeak was only 2 and a half and Bubble was almost 3 and half but I get so attached to all the pets I have had over the years and it never gets easier, and the trouble with rats it's even worse because they have such little time with us so unfair... All the best.

Ratty Boxes (a bag this time) are always so much fun to view bc your rats get so crazy! 🥰 What do they use to dye the colorful critter pops?
@cheritripp9470 Жыл бұрын
The fact that it was a bag this time didn't deter her mischief in the slightest. 😄

It's good for ppl to see how busy all of the rats can be together because that might not be for everyone - the sheer chaos and busy-ness. A person who doesn't do well with that kind of thing might want to keep their # down to one or two. 👍👍

"I love rats or rodents, it's a shame they have such a short lifespan. If they lived for 20 years, I would have several, and I don't understand how some people hate these adorable animals."

is it common for rats to loose fur? first time rat parent just so i know
@ShadowTheRat Жыл бұрын
It depends on their fur type. Double rexes, patchworks, and werewolves will all loose and regrow fur their entire lives. Rexes and other rexoid furs (like teddy rexes) will develop thinner fur and bald spots in old age (see Olive, the large black rat in this video with some bald spots and thin fur on her back). Standard furred rats like Banana (gray rat) or Omelet and Egg (white rats) won't develop bald spots with age, and any bald spots on them is usually due to either barbering or parasites (which cause them to scratch themselves to thin fur and scabs - but they're easily treated with kitten revolution). I think you're asking because of Donut though - Donut is the half naked girl with black fur. Donut's extreme fur loss is not due to genetics, but rather due to the medications she's on. Donut has a pituitary tumor, a benign type of brain tumor. To treat pituitary tumors you put the rat on steroids and a prolactin antagonist like cabergoline. Donut herself takes prednisone (a steroid) daily, plus gets doxycycline twice a day to help negate the immune suppression effects of long term steroids, and then every 3 days she gets cabergoline. One side effect of being on long term steroids like prednisone in rats is fur loss, and that's what you see with Donut. Donut has been on treatment for her pituitary gland tumor for 5 months, and without her meds she'd have to be pts. She's done extremely well on them though - I've now treated 6 rats for pituitary tumors and Donut is the only one who has maintained a good quality of life for months. She's an old girl now at 2 years and 4 months, but I'm hopeful we'll have a while left - regardless the fur loss is a small price to pay for her getting her quality of life back and getting so much time back!
