Check and treat the chassis rails & inside rear arches etc etc for rust inside they ALL Rust as water & dirt get trapped inside the chassis. If it's by some literal miracle NOT rusty, you've got a unicorn! So get the inside of the chassis Protected by a specialist, something like a Rust converter/neutraliser, followed by a top-level "protectant" sprayed inside the chassis rails and rear arches! Good luck! Btw if you see rust outside it's too late. So do it NOW they rust INSIDE-OUT! 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

My 6'3" father got "permission" to buy one in 1990 when they came out. We went to look at one, and his eye line hit the top of the windshield frame, and his head didn't fit with the top up (long-waisted). He almost cried. It was a sad sad day for the entire family.

Absolutely! My first car was a 1980 Subaru coupé, and as Yuri was instructing Jakub on closing that door, my brain instinctively piped up “no, you gotta hold up the door handle!”. Shout out to all of us old-timers who lived with ‘80’s Japanese cars and their materials choices! Thin paint that wiped off on your fingers, steering wheel and dash plastic and seat fabric that deteriorated in the sun’s UV and crumbled into dust, bottom-of-door rust that bloomed like moldy bread… good times. It amazes me how much better cars age today, a few decades later. Let’s hear it for materials science!

The front bumper gets bent from other people hitting the car while they are parallel parking in front of yours. The front licence plate is the first thing the other car hits, so it will inevitably happen if you leave your Miata somewhere someone can parallel park in front of it. In 1990, parking sensors did not exist, so many people just backed up until they heard a crunch, especially if they were driving a beater.

This is the most Boston Massachusetts comment ever. If you drive through a grocery store parking lot... SOOOOO many vehicles have minor front bumper and rear bumper damage from using the "back up til it stops" technique. They have not mastered the rear hitch ball/cattle guard technique of Texas.

The wheels are called “daises”. The subframe braces are not mandatory but they help rigidity. You can get a gas pedal cover/extension which also helps heel/toe. 1.6 tombstones always break but the aftermarket is making new ones now. You’ll want to replace the window bushings and lube the guide before the cables fray. Keeping it stockish rocks. I recommend a bigger front sway bar and either koni yellow/reds or TECNA suspension from Supermiata. That’s the perfect OEM+ daily setup. Enjoy!

NAs are perfect cars. Hilarious and slow and so easy to slide at the speed limit with shitty tires. I daily drove my Mariner Blue 1990 in New Jersey all through the winter with my hardtop on and had a blast, but you really need to drive it with motorcycle mentality. Some folks just won't see you for some reason, especially on the highway. Had a few 4 wheel lock ups when getting cut off by drivers that somehow didn't see my bright blue roadster. Defensive driving is key! Have fun, stay safe!

I had a '90 Miata that was built in August of '89. No power steering. The most pure driving experience I've ever had. I had it for 6 years then sold it to buy an '02 Boxster S. I thought I needed more power. Nope. Extremely capable, fast, and handled like a dream. I had so much more fun in the Miata. You could drive the absolute snot out of it and not go to jail. To get the same experience in the Boxster, I'd be doing easily 15 mph more through curves on one of my drives than in the Miata. It got to be too dangerous. I sold it after 7 years when the top crapped out on me for the second time and bought a '15 Camaro RS Convertible. It fit my life at the time, but man was it boring. I traded it in after 7 years last November and bought a '22 ND Grand Sport. Best damn car I've ever owned! It has the playfulness of the NA, enough horsepower to get you into trouble if you're an idiot, plus it has all the comforts a 53 year old car dude appreciates now that he's lived through the NVH of a CRX, Fiat Spider, NA Miata, 1973 Mercury Cougar, and an C4 Corvette. Plus, and most importantly, it is one of the last manual transmission sports cars you'll be able to buy. Give it another 10 years and ICE engines will be a niche market, with EVs taking over.

I so enjoyed this video!!! I had an original 1989 Miata (white) -- yes, I'm old! I wish I'd never sold it! It was not fast, BUT it was a BLAST to drive. So well weighted and the shifter -- man, it was the best shifter I've used to-date! Just a flick on the wrist! And I can't tell you how many times I "dropped the top" in traffic -- and was taken to a completely different world -- it just made me happy to "be outside" in an instant! Mazda hit it out of the park with their first attempt at copying the British sports car -- and made it fun to own one because it started EVERY time -- no questions asked!

Mine failed and I needed a new engine. Luckily it was $900 from the wrecker and my dad and I got to have super awesome father/son time swapping the Miata engine. The screws are pressed into the bumper by NPC drivers backing into you while parallel parking. After my 2nd kid I just didn't drive mine. Got a BMW E46 convertible to replace it. I bought or I should say saved a 2006 Subaru Forester X last month. It has 335,000 miles on it. The guy I bought it from was about to junk it. Turned out the crank pulley had come apart and hit the radiator. Used pulley, new radiator and front brakes and I got a winter beater. You can't beat a cheap car.

Welcome to the club Yuri, I didn’t think I’d modify my NC Launch Edition either. I have spent twice what I paid for the car including a BBR225 kit from the UK. An NA is very Yuri.

Funny story, my first manual was my Miata too. I've bought it at the dealership, asked a friend who drove manual to drive it home for me. I was amazed at how big the headlights looked by the passenger seat. My friend parked it on the driveway, but it's on a slope. So I said to myself ''Shit...if I fuck up I'll have to pay for a garage door. I'm not messing this up.''. The next day I drove it, got it out of the driveway with no issues and learned manual in like 30 seconds. Easiest car to learn manual EVER!

You had a HEADLIGHT 😮by your passenger seat? What on EARTH 🌎 for? That’s the strangest thing I’ve ever heard. Wouldn’t headlights NORMALLY be installed on the OUTSIDE of a car, up front where it’s challenging to see the road at night? 😅

Ah - you guys are inspiring me to get my '97 NA done and on the road! And I also have the stock Daisy wheels, which I will keep just because you said they need to be on it! (and because I am not flush financially)! Thanks for sharing!

No point in fixing the cosmetic stuff. As long as the mechanical are working it seems like a solid win.

I love that every generation of Miata and even the Fiata, the owners all wave or thumbs up my ND. If they know, otherwise they are just really cool ppl who own a Miata

Hard not to smile after driving a Miata! Under $5k (USD) seems ok for this one. Love the Canadian steering wheel!

12:40 there's a plug you can pull in the driver's side footwell to stop that buzzing. I owned my miata for 10 years before I even realized the buzzer was a thing. I was working on something else down there one day, saw an unplugged plug, plugged it in and it immediately started making that horrible racket.

Love my 1990 white manual Miata too! Super reliable, I AX, max it out in 2nd car (there is a rev limiter). Speaking of movies with NA's, it was also featured in David Cronenberg's Crash, albeit upside down.
