Man, this was a game of inches. Wild stuff. Seems like the Rangers play best when I stand up and walk around so I've got my M.O for the rest of the playoffs. The MSG crowd is noticeably more engaged for the entire game when Rempe plays.

Happy about the split even though the loss was disappointing. It is ironic but not unusual for a bottom 6 forward to play way better in the p/o than the reg. season. Goodrow had 4 goals this season & scored 3 of them in the last 10 games. Already has 4 in the p/o & is their 1st choice for defensive situations. He actually was on the ice late taking facoffs instead of Trocheck surprisingly . Championship teams need guys like him as he did this inTB for 2 cups.

barcllay goodrow was made for big games like this. he was so important to tampa's 2 cup wins. happy to see him achieving success tonite, helping NYR. that said, NYR needs to step it up if they wanna go places. can't expect to go far if you score 2 goals in 2 games. NYR very lucky to have a split.

Technically Florida has only scored 2 on Igor as well. This is what happens when 2 of the best (if not THE best) goalies in the entire league face eachother. Low scoring games. Rangers haven't had any trouble scoring until playing Bob... and that's expected. They advance they will have a much easier time with Oettinger or Skinner considering what they will have to go through playing Bobrovsky. If they win this series it will only make them better and more prepared for whoever is next.

The expected goals in all situations was 2.3-3.03 NYR and 5v5 expected goals was 1.46-1.80 NYR. They fully deserved the game tonight. Panthers didn’t even score a single EV strength goal today. If anything both have to step it up not just the Rangers. Adv metrics show the NYR fully deserved this game today.

Rempe played very well...He was physical and disciplined...Was responsible in the defensive zone...Plus the intangible...He injects enthusiasm in the crowd and energizes the team...I believe he secured a slot for the duration of the playoffs.

If the Rangers go to 7 and the Oilers sweep, then the Oilers will have had much more rest; therefore, they would be more likely to win. However, if the Rangers and Oilers have the same amount of rest, the Rangers would have the advantage with Igor in net, plus home ice. There are a lot of things that factor in, but if I were to predict I would say Rangers in 6. That doesn't mean much though

As someone originally from Brooklyn New York who grew up a rangers fan who has been living in south Florida for the last 15 years and has adopted/supported the panthers in that same time: I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Either way I win but I’m pulling for the cats. The reason being is because the rangers will always have opportunities. The panthers need to make the best of their opportunities because they’re less likely to have them going forward. I want to see the cats win a cup. I was 14 when the rangers won theirs so I’ve already felt that. The rangers have had endless opportunities to win for so long….I think both the Knicks & rangers are cursed. James Dolan is a bad owner especially when looking at the Knicks.

the Rangers just look snappier and quicker when Rempe is in the lineup. And with Chytil back and Wheeler possibly available, LAviolette has options. Seeing Kakko get scratched though...makes one wonder if he has run out of chances to establish himself. was he injured? if so i hadn't seen anything about it. if Kakko was just a straight healthy scratch that has to be demoralizing for him. He should have been fighting for that RW1 slot but only to see it go to Chytil who's missed nearly 70 games.

I don't think it's that deep. Lavi wanted to play rempe, and there's no reason they shouldn't play Cyril if he's good to go. Cuhllye has been doing what's been asked of him, kappo was just the odd guy out. Experimenting with Cythil on top line was part of the plan, but definitely hope it gave him space to came back with a fresh mindset and put up some points when we need him. Kappo has been excellent in getting the puck deep and maintaining it but yea if they're not scoring on those against a stifling defense changes need to be made. i don't think this was designed as a punishment to him.

Othmann & later on Perrault will probably make him expendable unless they put him on the 4th line but Cuylle & now Rempe or Edstrom could make that unlikely

Nice review Shannon, Very detailed as usual. The first game was a hangover from the Carolina 3 goals in one period natural hat trick game. Igor didn’t look good in game one and played like himself in game 2. This series is gonna be tight with no room for error. You saw how ineffective the power plays were for both teams so scoring goals is gonna be extremely difficult. Bob is almost as good as Igor so it’s gonna come down to which goalie steals the series.

A Rangers fan told me after game three of the second round “Took a former ranger to beat the rangers” I responded, “Wouldn’t you say Trocheck has been more important/better than Brady Skeij”. As a Panthers fan the Rangers were simply the better team. They knew this was a must win and played like it. If not for Bob this wasn’t a 2-1 score. Panthers better come out with that relentless fore check and suffocating defense and not let up if they want to win this series. I don’t see the similarities between Carolina and Panthers lol… at all. Panthers rely on a relentless forecheck: their conditioning is also insane. They break you down over time and usually control the third period because of this. The Rangers weren’t having it tonight.

would have loved a mention on the rangers goal that it only happened because of the obvious high stick on forsling, making him incapasitated and therefor leaving trocheck all alone to get a free goal. And on top of that verhaeghe gets jumped on after the goal and he gets a penalty for it. So no, i dont count rangers winning panthers at their own game, because referees are not on the side of the panthers as they are on the side of rangers.

Man, I honestly saw NY taking this win home as soon as we hit the halfway mark of the game. Florida started getting really sloppy offensively when NY realized they were going to have to skate circles in order to win it.

Igor should have had the opener in game 1 I suspect it's going to come down to that in every game. The Rangers, just like Florida, play better on the road they just roll 4 lines and get good goaltending.

Please, for the love of Neptune, tell me I'm not the only one who has the worst luck missing goals. I had stayed to watch OT but had to go to work (late shift). As I walked down the stairs (12 seconds, btw) the Rangers scored the game winning goal at that time and I missed it because 1. I left my TV and 2. my phone buffered. This has happened dozens of times.

Yes obviously we want to win both in Florida but NY just needs 1 in FL. Come back and win game 5 and you've got 2 chances to crack the nut to go to the final. I think that's how this plays out. This is beyond stressful.

Very possible - they have 2 other options now that Wheeler is cleared to play. I personally would choose Brodzinski for his speed & potentially a more offensive threat . Kaako's strengths are puck possession & checks his wing but he seems overmatched physically by this team

Love big open ice hits. They need to start teaching kids how to give and take them again. Not learning to take hits is hurting players in the nhl and nfl. Pretty ironic that both leagues try to soften a bit but in turn don’t teach hitting and taking a hit as much and then players get just as injured or more injured 😂
