As a Flames fan, I swear I almost had a heart attack. Oettinger was absolutely phenomenal. Thats was absolutely the best goalie performance I’ve ever seen. If he keeps that play up, he’ll win multiple Vezinas in his career. He straight up broke Dryden’s non-OT playoffs save record.

You don't see goaltending performances like Oettinger's every year or even every decade. His performance was absolutely insane and he dragged Dallas kicking and screaming through seven games of insane hockey. That kid is the future of his team and the future of the position. The Flames deserved to win but Oettinger deserves the world for this performance.

Considering how frustrating this season was, the way they fell backwards into the playoffs, as many issues as I have with coaching and management, how I wasn't super excited to see this series after game 1, and of course losing the series. I always feel better seeing a performance like Oettinger's tonight. The team all taking the time to apologize for letting him down, and the Flames taking extra time to show him props was nice too. Hopefully the future will be bright.

Thanks for being such a pro, THG. I know the Flames deserved the win more, but it always sucks when your team exits the playoffs. Especially with the added human side of the story in Oettinger. No matter who you were cheering for, you have to feel for that kid. Such an amazing performance by him… don’t think I have ever seen anything quite like that from a goalie. @@ellie978 I look at the age on that roster and see a pretty clear picture. The scorers (besides Hintz) are over the hill and not producing. No coach will get Seguin or Benn to play like they’re 26 again

@@ogreman2229 Seguin is 30. Benn is 32. Robertson is 22. That’s not over the hill. Also, the system played a huge part in the way the Stars could not score. The coach literally said offense will take care of itself. There was zero offensive strategy geared towards scoring goals. It was all about getting set on defense.

Honestly still cannot believe Dallas drafted Robertson, Heiskanen and Oettinger in the SAME draft. That 2017 draft basically sets them up for the next decade. Now they need to find a coach that can exploit the offensive potential on that team.

Playing the counter taking your opportunities and relying on goaltending to come up clutch. They did the exact same in 2019 and it got them to a Cup finals. Bowness knows what he’s doing, but he’ll probably be gone next year so they will want to find an offensive coach to try to maximise what they can get from the talent on that roster.

Heiskanen time was ridiculous, he really tried to end it himself. Felt like every time Miro was on the ice, he tried to skate into offensive zone and either shoot or set up something dangerous. Raffl is a guy no one has really been talking about but he was the most noticeable stars forward for what felt like the entire series. Man did he up his game. Suter was a waste of money for them though.

Agreed. To be fair though, fighting injuries is a crucial part of the playoffs that every team has to deal with if they want to win. While Ottinger put on a masterful performance, Dallas has some work ahead of them before they're a true contender.

@@angiebee2225 Well, it's debatable, but i think considering Tanev is an assistant captain, the veteran leader in the flames d core, and that the series was defense first, and also that Hintz only had one goal...yes, I'd say it was a bigger hit for calgary.

The future is bright in Dallas, sure, but it'll be an interesting puzzle for the upper brass to figure out in the end, especially with a couple of big pieces being UFAs.

This series was very reminiscent of the First Round in 1989. A young Kirk McLean and rookie Trevor Linden pushed the eventual Stanley Cup Champions to the limit. Bring on the Battle for Alberta!!!!

@@ominousflames14 Outscored LA 22-11 in those four games in 1989. Edmonton has won 4 of the previous 5 Battle of Alberta match-ups. The only win for Calgary came on the Steve Smith blunder in Game 7 in 1986, a series which home ice didn’t mean a whole lot as the Oilers were 1-3 at home and Calgary was 1-2 at home. We actually have two series where planes probably will not be used.
