Reviewing Swienty Breeze Beekeeping Suit

In this video I test and review the Swienty Breeze Beekeeping suit.

Swienty Breeze Protector Suit
Our Breeze Protector Suit is a ventilated lightweight suit, that is designed to be more comfortable in warm weather, but still have a high durability.
The suit is made up of three layers: Two layers of ventilated fabric and one thick layer of ventilated mesh, so the bees sting can’t reach the body. The suit is made to last many years, and as always, we have focused 100 % on quality, comfort, safety and sustainability.
New hat design
The unique hat design with an extra strong veil gives you the best protection of the face, without the hat sliding back and forth on the head. This is achieved by the innovative shape, that makes the hat rest on the shoulders instead of hanging on the head.
The flame-resistant veil is very stiff, which creates a good space around the ears, and gives a better view. The hat can of course be folded back or taken off completely.
Professionally tested
Here at Swienty, our main focus is quality and having products that are the best for you and the nature.
Besides being CE-Certified in category 2, meaning that this clothing is officially approved for working with bees, the suits have been professionally tested by an accredited 3rd party test lab.
Our Breeze clothing contains no polluting materials like cadmium, lead, mercury or chromium, or any types of endocrine disruptors, such as e.g. flame-retardant bromides or softening phthalates.
This means that our Breeze clothing is safe for you, your bees and the nature.

Materials
The ventilated material in the Breeze clothing is 100 % polyester, but the fabric used on pockets, reinforcements, the backside of the hat and on padges is 65 % polyester and 35 % cotton.
Washing instructions (Without hat)
- Is washed best in hand, but can be put in a washing machine (30 degrees MAX)
- Do not use bleach
- Do not tumble dry

I bought the same suit towards the end of last year and decided to wring the last bit of life out of my old suit before breaking this one in for real, so I haven't really used mine much yet. What I really do like about it is the drawstring around the waist on the inside of the suit, with little spring-loaded toggles on either end. This means that you can afford to get a roomy size to easily get in and out of the suit, and then adjust the waist drawstring for a good fit before you zip it up. It does seem to be a bit heavy but I will happily live with that for the benefit of ventilation. In the old suit my t-shirt is always soaked after a round of inspection during the hot summer days, making me feel as if I had just run a marathon, so I am really looking forward to starting this season off in my new suit.

The only thing that they could have added is a velcro tab to help prevent any mishaps with bees getting in through the zips on the hood where they meet together other then that it looks like a great suit.

Diolch am y review, this certainly looks like a really good bee suit. I am thinking of getting this suit from your store as I am just getting too many stings to make it enjoyable now, and I am finding each time I am getting worse reactions. My hand is all swollen up today from one sting and my face is also pretty bad too! Stings never used to be a problem for me but for some reason they have been the last couple years.

No problem 😊 I haven’t been stung in this suit yet and I have worn a lot of it. Also I use these suits in our training and nobody has been stung yet! In fairness to Swienty their great suits. Maybe worth you getting a epipen I know several beekeepers that carry them just in case.

Hi, That’s a great question both a very good suits. Haven’t used the Swienty for a full season yet. The sentinel I have used for a full season with no problems. The biggest difference between the suits are the Swienty is heavier and the vail doesn’t fold flat. But it’s got great visibility due to its shape. Personal preference really either way you won’t be disappointed 😊

I prefer to work with just a vail on in most of my apiaries, oh, and netting in my shorts. I don’t mind stings on my arms and legs as I like to keep up my immunity. The horror stories I hear where beekeepers end up in hospital seem to be where there has been a build up of K protein and the Beekeeper who always wears a full suit (so never gets stung) then one day gets stung and that’s when the body over reacts. Also, the advantage of not wearing a vail means you can hold your hive tool between your teeth 😬 and eat honey mid inspection. Each to their own though, but I definitely think it’s good to get a few stings periodically. More importantly, have you seen any swarm cells yet? I’ve plenty of drone brood so hopefully I’ll be able to do some splits soon to replace my winter losses.

Ben Gibbon hi Ben, fair comments and I agree the stings can benefit a lot of people. But I have also heard of people going allergic after getting to many high doses over time. Personally I just get stung on the hands due to wearing disposable gloves and that’s enough stings for me! Still adds up to a lot of stings every week! I suppose it comes down to what kind of bees you keep. If you have horrible bees then thick gloves will be a must as well! Very tame bees and you would be safe without a suit. I have found 1 hive out of around 70 I’ve inspected to have Queen cells! And I have heard of a local swarm in the area too! It’s going to be an early swarming season!!! 🙈 Give it 2 weeks and there will be swarms galore about the place!! And a good time to make splits! 😊

I'm a 20+ year keeper lots of hives .... anaphylactic now but still trucking on with epipens and immunotherapy. Your ideas on stings being good are flawed however ..... always avoid stings if possible .... it is getting stung frequently that has caused me to be highly allergic ......

Im afraid your bee sting theory is wrong. Over time lots of stings can lead to a serous reaction. You may get away with it for years but eventually your body says “Ive had enough of this” and give you a severe reaction. This is the case with many allergies, people can work with substances for a long time but become allergic over night. Be careful and minimise your stings.

Hi Gwenyn, under the suit, if you wore shorts and tshirt, would it still keep stings out I wonder or does this suit need long pants and long sleeved tshirt to be safe? Just wondering your thoughts 3 years of wearing it.

I wear them in shorts and T-shirts and I’ve not been stung. But no suit is a 100% sting proof. But you’re very unlikely to get stung in these suits.

I'm thinking on buying this one! It's been a couple of months since you made this video now. Would you still say it's a solid buy? I used to have a fencing style suit before i broke the veil. I found it frustrating that it fell forward too much. But I did appreciate the view it gave, f.ex it was much easier to spot eggs with the fencing veil contra the round one.. Would you say this one have as good of a view?

Hi, Both are great suits. Visibility is great on both. The only difference between the suits are the Swienty is heavier and the vail doesn’t collapse. So far I’m extremely pleased with both suits. The Swienty has less ventilation on it so less likely to tear. It comes down to personal preference as both suits are very very good. You won’t be disappointed either way 😊

Hey @Gwenyn Gruffydd I'm about to order one of these on your review, what other feedback can you please give since using this suit now 2 years since making the video. have your legs torn in the outer mesh from snags, this is my main concern with the cheaper vented suits from China they snag and rip way way to easy, then the middle mesh rips and wears through that's why I wont be going with them again.

Black Mountain Honey that’s the only downside but on the flip side it’s great when it’s on. I always take my suit off when driving to cool down between sites more than anything. But I know most beefarmers leave their suit on for the day. But for the hobby market it makes no difference.

At last !!! Thanks. Those multilayered suits are definitely the way to go. Very interesting veil. Very James Bond (like the technicians out of Dr No at 2:35 kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqiZYqivdpV5bqM ). I have a fencing style veil and from time to time wear a baseball cap on (backwards) to stop it flopping all over the place. Wow you have lots of hives. You're going to be busy.

Hi, getting on really good with it! Been wearing it flat out this year. Washes good, obviously hand wash the vail and follow washing guidelines on the tab on the suit. The vail is great when your wearing it. Full vision and no stings! Just note it doesn’t collapse as a conventional hood.
