Reviewing the Wilkinson Sword TTO Safety Razor

Hey Kal, loved your review. The only three modern DE razors I love to use is Muhle R41, Rockwell 6c and Karve Christopher Bradley, but my main favorite selection are the old Gillettes USA, England and British.

Which one? The first one they came out with or the newest one? I don't have the newest one yet. If memory serves me, the WS was slightly more aggressive. As far packaging, nostalgia, and everyday shaver, I like the first Gillette. It's been quite a while since I've used either. Hope this helps! 🤘

ive been using glitte mach 3 disposable razors all my life and i recently bought the wilkinson kit and my first shave was harsh ...my neck turned red and burning so did my face but as as much as my neck ,,,it was my first ever wet shave ...should i continue using the wilkonson will my face adjust to this style shaving or should i quit and go back to the disposables ?

Hey man! Sorry so long in answering you. I'm really sorry to hear you have such a rough experience. Here's my honest opinion... Don't give up! Watch vids aimed at noobies. Experiment. My first few shaves using DEs were bloody. Experience teaches you. Try different blades. IMO don't jump to use a Feather blade. They're notoriously sharp and will cut you. Personally I love Voskhod blades. They're smooth and efficient for my skin & whisker type. Prep is extremely important! Have a shower first. Use a preshave. You might find preshave oils work well for you. Phoenix Shaving makes "The Cube" which is great for preshay. Make sure you have a good thick lather that's very slick. Always use a very very light pressure! For most guys, their 3rd pass, against the grain, can cause irritation. Use an alum block. They're extremely cheap. Don't be in a rush. Maybe just use a DE on your cheeks until you get used it to. There's no shame in switching to a disposable cartridge razor until you get used to using a DE. There's so many channels out there. I cut my teeth on Razor Emporium, Phoenix Shaving, and I'd Lather Be Shaving vids. I have many friends who make great videos. A quick KZbin search will yield you tons of results. IMO, stick with it. And remember that even the experienced wetshavers have a rough shave from time to time. I hope this helps you! And feel free to reach out to me if I can offer any other advice!

Nice review Ken. I liked your use of the graphic/table on screen where you showed the weight (mass to be exact) of comparable razors. My tip would be to leave it up a little longer. I ended up pausing the video to go back and read the whole thing. Overall a good innovation IMO.

How is this compared to the feather popular TTO and the weishi TTO? Which is the more efficient shaver, with least nicks

Hey Thomas. I haven't used the Feather TTO yet. But as for the Weishi / Vander Hagen / Shave Factory clones, this WS is much better made, sturdier, and heavier. I'd definitely recommend it over the others. Hope this helps.

@@ciarancdc I have the black plastic Wilkinson and its OK......This classic one is bloody awful and cuts me to pieces and leaves my face red raw. Get something like a Rockwell. 6 options on aggression. Very, very mild to quite aggressive. Dave.

Sorry I didn't see your message much sooner. Not sure how I missed it. I can only speak from my personal experience. The black plastic WS is basically useless. The cpl times I tried it it was so mild that it basically might as not have had a blade in it. I've lent it to friends who had very similar experiences with it.

@@davesheppard8797 @Kal Shaves Thanks, I've actually ordered the rockwell 6s a couple of weeks ago it should be here soon, I am starting to find the black wilkinson one to be a bit too mild, it has one side where the blade sticks out a little bit more than the other and I find myself preferring to use that side but the the milder side makes me feel more safe about going over moles

Wilkinson Classic vs. King C. Gillette - what to say? These two products just perfectly represent the best example of what difference two razors make themselves, even when the same blade is used. I bought these two safety razors and tried them with the same blade. To keep the objectiveness of the ceteris paribas rule, I loaded both of them with my favorite Feather blades. The difference is blatant, striking and almost incredible: Not only did Wilkinson Classic produce poor, uneven shaving results, it also left about 3/4 of the shaved surface of my face covered with blood. Contrarily, King C. Gillette turned out to be a top quality razor that honestly deserves the attribute "safety": it provided an excellent, pleasurable shave at the "baby bum" level, without a single nick or a drop of blood. It's ironic that the Wilkinson, despite their long time existence, have obviously never learned how safety razors should work, whilst the Gillette people really know what they're doing. Here's my advice: forget about the crappy Wilkinson piece of junk, unless you aim to achieve Mason Verger's visage. Just my opinion, though.

Hey Vladimir! Interesting experience. The Wilkinson is not and never will be one of my fave razors to use. I don't know if there's inconsistent quality or not. Someday I'll do another comparison video. I've been meaning too but time constraints so far have prevented it. Thanks for watching!

Good review! I’m not a fan of super light razors, at least in the DE variety... I find you’d be more likely to dig in leading to irritation, therefore I like a good heavy DE and let the weight of that do it’s thing, but being cognizant of it’s lightweight it looks to be a decent TTO. Have a safe trip man.

I have Feather AS-D2, Rockwell 6c, Outlaw stainless, Parker Variant, 34c, Muhle r89, edwin jagger 89....all OK, and this Wilkinson classic. It is supposed to be a mild razor but cuts me to pieces whenever I use it. Just can't get on with it. Nothing about it feels right. I have given up on it now! Stay safe, Dave.

@@Lemingtona-x5g Hi hassy Could be a quality control issue! Since my original post I have acquired a Karve stainless, a Blackbird, Rockwell 6S, five Razorocks (Gamechangers & lupo's) and a rex Envoy amongst others. No issues with any of them!!

Razer doesn't bend enough when closed.. and the handle comes loose pushing the Razor back up too far.making it dangerous.

Hey William. Yeah I liked this razor much more then the Quad. The Quad is an interesting concept but I don't think many wetshavers will like it. I imagine the replacement blades will be damn expensive. There's plastic bits that will go into the landfill. I'll use mine again but I'd suggest saving your money for something else, especially if you can't get it in the UK. Just my opinion.
