I could not agree more! Either use a DE or use an overpriced cartridge setup but do not fall for gimmicks from the big names in the industry. Have I seen multiple people find the right blade for them to use in the DE razor of their choice? Yes. Do they get a great shave with that combo? Yes. I am using a Merkur vintage 1970s right now with Feather blades ... does this combo work on both my face and then my head? Yes. One shave per blade and I throw it. Can anyone say "if it is not broken then do not fix it?" I understand Ken needs content (reviews) but I would not own the Wilkinson Sword razor if they paid me to use it and also supplied the blades for free!

I agree! Wilkinson sword, motto "The name on the worlds finest blades". I think they should not mess about with gimmicks but make a quality razor, maybe stainless, with an original type of head. Not roll out another jazzy handle with a standard R89 head but something similar to what Edwin jagger did with their 3one6. I love that razor!! The Wilkinson classic butterfly was bloody awful!! And from a company that once produced the famous Fairbairn Sykes British Commando knife. Wilkinsons went out of business but somebody is using the Wilkinson name now and it would be nice if they could make that a name, once again, to be proud of. If they brought out a quality razor with a good head design that's not way out there, I would certainly buy it. I imagine all the other razor collectors would too. Dave.

Excellent review Ken. Interesting razor. But I can't see where Wilkinson Sword are trying to go with this. The plastic element is quite an issue these days

Its a good idea went bad. My bet is that Marketing got involved. Some engineer probably figured out a way to set 2 DE razor blades (3 piece razor, cap, mid plate, handle and bottom plate), marketing stepped in and went, "But lets make it proprietary." I would have bought the non-proprietary blade version, not so this one.

Interesting - still has plastic.....although a much smaller amount than a cartridge razor. The cap shape reminded me of an old Darwin razor. Will be interesting to see if this razor takes off or evolves.

Schick makes the best cartridge razors tbh and the hydro is the closest thing I can find to a de. As far as smoothness and closeness Gillette isn't as good with mach 3 or proglide. I'm willing to try this out because it looks kind of interesting and similar to a DE.

Does the (synthetic) Kensurfs 2020 Limited Edition brush have a lot of backbone like a boar or is it somewhere between boar and badger? I like the shorter fluted handle, but want something with more backbone/scritch that will hold up to a bit more splaying to raise the hair-my AoS badger brush is taking a beating, and the handle on my synthetic is a bit large to work with. Suggestions?

Anton Komatz To me, the Badger seems to have more backbone than the same synthetic.

Great Review ken...I believe I was the first to ask for a review of this razor, interesting review the head somewhat looks like the Wcs "lithe"head and the proprietary blade seems to be a bit of a dissapointment, personally I still prefer De razors and blades...thanks for the awesome review stay safe...from South Africa 🇿🇦

Hi Ken, greetings from the UK. Thanks for the video and the heads up on this latest Wilkinson. Unfortunately, I will not be buying this razor. I've no idea why Wilkinson Sword decided to make such a convoluted contraption that will ultimately not appeal to traditional DE shavers or newbies who are considering making the move from plastic disposables to 'proper' shaving. It seems like a lot of hassle for nothing.

Serious understatement about in the tall grass being weird. The story went full alabama mode. If it's intent was to freak me out and make me uncomfortable, mission accomplished. As for the razor it super redundant. I'd recommend any newbies reading this get the feather popular razor. Last I saw it was only 18 dollars and came with a five pack of feather blades. It's super mild and user friendly; also very unlikely you can cut yourself with it. Wilkinson sword could have made a nice twist to open razor instead, and I would have bought it.

Interesting video, great job presenting it. I had been using 5 blade cart razors for years and then decided to try a DE razor I from Van Der Hagen with blades. I've been using it for about 3 months and I have issues. First it doesn't shave as close as the 5 blade jobs; and second, I'm always nicking myself whereas with the 5 blade jobs I never do. So, is the Van Der Hagen razor cheap quality and thus the nicks and failure to shave close? Or is DE all about nicking oneself? LOL!! I watched several of your videos but I can't determine from them which is the best razor in your opinion, can you enlighten me on what is the best razor and how to prevent nicking? The Quad Razor is interesting but I'm afraid if they sell well, I may not find the blades if they stop making the razor. Thanks. Oh, and I did subscribe to your channel.

It seems to do the same as a cartridge. Granted that each replacement part is a lot cheaper than a Gillette Fusion ProShield, and has less throwaway plastic, it is only a little less expensive than a Harry's cartridge or a Gillette SkinGuard. As a devotee of hysterisis, I cannot see how the extra cost of the handle, without a pivot, can be amortized against the savings on the cost of replacement parts (blades/cartridges/?). Now, if they made a triple-layer and made the head an omni-directional pivot, then they might have a good thing ...
