Hi Evie, I wasn't aware that your book was available on Audible. I am now. Got it 😊. Still plan to purchase a hard copy. There were a couple of things you mentioned and I can assure you you're not the only one. I hate when a book gets overly crowded with characters. It seems like every other page you're asking "who was that again?". And books that do a lot of jumping around. Very much Stephen Kings style. As much as I love his stuff, it can get very annoying when overdone. Anyway, have a great day 😊

Thank you for sharing what you've been getting into! :-) How you said creepy, eerie, and the darker the better made me think of what's called "weird fiction" or "cosmic horror", which I myself have been getting into lately. Mostly short stories so far; some only take ten or fifteen minutes to read. I could probably recommend something if anyone is interested. :-)

EVIE!!! I have the exact same book taste as you and I have an awesome suggestion for you!! I think you'd love it, let me know if you get around to it!!❤️ love you!!

I love a thriller. Silent Patient was an 8/10 for me so seems to be pretty popular all around! Do No Harm had a great start but disappointed me with the route it took - hopefully u enjoy it more than I did. If u liked B A Paris, I enjoyed Behind Closed Doors by that author. Also recommend: The Last Thing to a burn - Will Dean (dark read) and What Lies Between Us - John Marrs. I clearly enjoy a thriller about being trapped 😂. Also The Family Upstairs - Lisa Jewell was pretty good too.

YES Evie, books love them!! After not reading regularly for a few years, I'm finally finding my way back into my own bookworm era. I like quite a lot of different genres, but at the moment I'm really into thrillers. So I'll definitely add some of your recommendations to my reading list!! These past few weeks I've read some books my Sebastian Fitzek. I've read "the package", "walk me home" and "die Einladung (the invitation)". The first two I really loved! I could not stop reading or put them down. "die Einladung" I liked, but it wasn't my favorite. So if someone likes psychological thrillers, I would really recommend books by Fitzek. But you really need to like the psychological aspects and the suspense. I know some people who find his books too intense

Some of my favorite audiobooks are the golden compass series. It’s a whole cast and it’s like a radio show. The other is Dresden Files. James Marsters (spike from Buffy) reads them. They’re so good. It’s like detective story meets Buffy. They’re amazing. Also Sandman from Neil Gaiman. I’ve not listened to it yet but it’s another full cast that reads it. ❤

i adore the cosmic horror genre it's soooo good when it's done right and i've noticed only books have been able to achieve that true cosmic horror feel. so i understand sticking with just your one genre, i do the same. H.P lovecraft stuff is my fave so far. i also do suggest reading some of his stuff since you like crime/thriller, he does have a few stories that are. the thing i love about cosmic horror is that it fits into any genre... as cosmic horror is not necessarily "horror" Cosmic horror is .... events that happen that no one and nothing has control over as your actions are meaningless to change the events as they are a mystery to begin with and that is what makes it "cosmic horror" the fear of the unknown and unavoidable while making one feel insignifigant. and that is why it can fit into any other genre as it's like a looming presence in the background that no one understands, fits really well with crime/thrillers.
@jessjonesd Жыл бұрын
I’m the exact same way! I can only focus enough on thriller/horror books and only recently started getting into it. Currently I’m reading The Inmate by Freida and so far it’s good!

With darker stories it's often the power of our imagination that really brings them too life. Do any of these (or anything that one one would recommend have depth to back stories that allow for open ended questions of why a character chose that path? Most books I've tried over the past 5 years struggle to separate the characters who are just evil from those who start good and are misguided. I know it could just be my choice in the books at the local Oxfam but I've gone back to classics like lord of the rings, and epic of Gilgamesh to get that WTF level of awe from books.

I can really recommend Sebastian fitzek‘s books! He‘s a German author (really really popular here) but maybe there are English versions, it’s really dark but in a way that fascinates rather than disturb :) my fav so far is ,,Der Insasse,, which is basically translated to ,,The patient,,! It has a huge plotwist and it’s not too too confusing but u def have to think a lot still haha :3
