Ikr, problem is often if a song has simplistic, even dumb lyrics but stays politically correct, they'll let it go (hi modern pop music), while a song with a message but politically charged might get a ticket for the garbage bin :(

Basically, people should always consider KZbin ad revenue as a "nice to have" but not a "must have" for their business plans. KZbin's adsense policy states (paraphrased) they can pick and choose what videos they decide to serve ads on for any reason.

+BurnTheController: That's the point she's trying to make. You should never let your life revolve around a website, especially one you do not own. It's just not a smart thing to do. It's nice to have it for extra money, but it's never a smart thing to make KZbin your career because KZbin can change policies however they want because it's their site. In fact, one day KZbin could one day decide to end the ad partnership program and just take 100% of the income and put ads on all the videos and they'd have every legal right to do so. KZbin doesn't owe you anything. And yes, it would suck to be in that position... but that's the lesson here is to never put yourself in that position where your job can so easily cease to exist at any moment.

Isn't there something called Freedom of Speech? Can't KZbin take our rights into consideration?
@AttanoVenge8 жыл бұрын
The freedom of speech assured to us by the Constitution only protects free speech in an open, PUBLIC forum, as long as the individual is not intentionally inciting violence. It is not a blanket guarantee that you can express yourself freely everywhere, and KZbin being a private company can moderate what gets said to any degree they want and by any standard they feel necessary. Now I'm not saying I support censorship on KZbin (I don't), but our right to free speech protects us from the government alone, not our peers, and not private entities.
@buttrockman45788 жыл бұрын
This argument has been made so many times. It doesn't matter that you can pull out these technicalities. If you can agree that youtube censorship is wrong, you shouldn't be muddying the waters this way. And, when you consider the way that youtube effectively has a monopoly on what it does, regardless of the fact that it's technically a privately owned business, it is effectively the only viable platform for this form of content creation. No alternatives exist, and so to say that this isn't a legitimate freedom of speech issue is silly and dishonest in my eyes. Those laws were written in a different time, and need to adapt to the modern world, and if the free speech is to survive in the modern world, this must be recognized as an avenue of speech within which the same standards must apply as in any public forum, because that's effectively what youtube has become. To say otherwise is simply to deny reality.
@AttanoVenge8 жыл бұрын
Axle Redacted There is no muddying the waters, its just what is and what isn't. Our "right" to freedom of speech is granted by the government in regards to the government. That's all it was ever intended to be. You can talk about freedom of speech on KZbin and that's fine, but when you bring up the "right" to freedom of speech I think people should know what that actually entails. If you read KZbin's ToS you can see that it claims to be as open a platform as possible, yet with cases like this we see that it isn't that simple. Id also like to add that this may be construed as indirect censorship via cutting off adds, but it is still not direct censorship via removing content. I don't agree with this policy but free speech, again, as a "right" doesn't fit here.
@d622038 жыл бұрын
Actually, KZbin is a such a large place, where so many people gather, it could be considered a defined public forum or a quasi-public place in legal terms. Basically, that means that KZbin and other large social media sites would be "...so functionally akin to public property that private owners may not forbid expression upon it." It's the same label given to malls, airports, etc. Defined public forums are allowed limited regulation on speech to keep it from impairing the primary purpose of the place in question, and what is limited varies depending on the judge, but since KZbin's primary purpose is the expression and distribution of unique content from all different viewpoints, most regulation on speech would hinder this, not help. That said, the law is kind of fuzzy about this, with decisions on both sides of the issue. California does tend to lean more toward free speech in these places than most of the country, but it would probably be a very difficult legal battle for either side to fight if it came to that. law.justia.com/constitution/us/amendment-01/54-quasi-public-places.html law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/conlaw/tradforum.htm
@AttanoVenge8 жыл бұрын
d62203 Yes, but that refers to public places in the real world, not web-spaces. Definitely a trickier animal. I'm not disagreeing that an argument could be made for that; it absolutely could, and it would be interesting to see how that plays out. But at that point the government would be taking away KZbin's right to moderate its content, which it has to do, for obvious reasons. And again, this isn't directly denying freedom of speech. They could make a law which would make it so KZbin has to host any content, sure (just typing that sounds absurd btw). But they would never make one that forces KZbin to monetize all content, which is what this issue is dealing with.

Monetization is the bane of youtube. KZbin was never meant for people to make "careers" from. Get a real job. Use youtube what it was intended for. Lazy bums.
@trestrom64018 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure nobody would use youtube if your favorite content creators weren't here idiot. Do you even know how hard it is to sit there every day and tediously edit video it becomes like a 9 to 5 office job. you don't just start fucking recording and upload whatever shit comes outta your mouth. Not everyone can be a boxer or a construction worker. KZbin was intended to be about you. The fuck does it matter if your getting paid or not
@edengaming50218 жыл бұрын
Not hard at all, when compared to a real job. and people like AVGN were making videos long before they were making "money" off it. People who have love what they do, will do it, in their spare time, and for themselves, and the fans. Any youtube "content creator" That would simply stop making videos because they cant make money off of them, can go fuk off, ,and Ill toss em a few pennies when I see them under the freeway in their new cardboard box home.
@trestrom64018 жыл бұрын
Eden Gaming Yes,many would still do it but since its no longer self sustaining many of the biggest youtube channels would have less than 100 videos there would be overall less content to watch, because it has not become something they can do in their in free time, and what do you think a real job is Mc Donalds??? or maybe your just sad that you cant be a content creator they sit on their ass almost all day just like your secretaries and your costumer service reps and your office workers the only difference is that since youtube is all about you they can get creative with their job.

{Trestrom} Yes, I would consider McDonalds a real job. Why is it that company in particular seems to get alot of hate as if working at McDonalds is some sort of bad thing? Its a job. Not for me, but it certainly is a real job, with a real paycheck, and guaranteed money for hard work. Just because you (and many others) have their mommy and daddy pay their college tuition and room and board so they dont have to work in a McDonalds, Wal-Mart etc..doesnt discredit it in the least.

I am an educational KZbinr with family friendly content and I was hit simply for making a video talking over death. As somebody who posts not only on occasion but the fact that I also try to dive into deep topics, this is quite concerning. I haven't been able to monetize said video for months and I haven't had any ability to find out what was going on or why until recently. And it seems to be simply because of the title has led KZbin to believe that I used, profanity... Goodness...

There's youtube channels completely devoted to people opening shit, or the fucktards who just react to shit. Yeah, that shit is sooo complicated. How could I ever comprehend how to open something, or react to something. I think that actually its pretty good!!!! A Bunch of KZbinrs are getting paid, and their videos are being monetized and all they do is swear or offend. WE need to realise that kids are accessing KZbin, and parents cannot control it 100%, so it makes completely sense to censor content that does not fit the rules!!!!!
@DarkSpyro7078 жыл бұрын
Then by your logic everything in the world needs to be censored. Sorry, but the world isnt made for just children. Adults live here too.
@Oxydus18 жыл бұрын
This is not a censorship, KZbinrs can make the videos they want, and speak all they want.... but if they want money, they have to give us Quality, so its a win win situation! Its the brands that give the money here, so its normal that a brand, does not want to be part on a immoral, controversial, lewd video! If you are a KZbinr, be creative, step up the game, be serious and you´ll make money the same... but if you are just a lazy guy trying to ride the controversial topics, the most offensive stuff, than i am more than happy that you don´t get money out of it! I am not saying that they cannot do it (that would be censorship), and they don´t do it, so it cannot be called censorship!
@DarkSpyro7078 жыл бұрын

Those are shows, not youtubers, and ads work a bit different on TV than on YT. On YT ads are connected to each video, where on Tv ads are connected with time... The brand does not pay the broadcaster to put ads on this or that show, they pay the broadcaster to play their ads according to the repetition number, the seconds and if its on prime time or not. The Brand pays for 20 repetitions of their add on prime time, and its the broacaster that has the responsability to allocate it! And you cannot compare shows you YT Videos, at least the majority here.

I honestly think they should remove this whole monetizing thing from KZbin, that brought also the copyright idiocies. KZbin's taking a big risk here, assuming they're actually aggressively targeting content creators. Alternatively though, this could just be a poorly-explained attempt at being more transparent with demonetization, like they claim, so we'll just have to wait and see. If this is them just being more transparent with their pre-existing demonetization process, fantastic. If this is something new though, and they lied about it, shit just hit the fan.
@BaltaBueno8 жыл бұрын
It would be a really good idea to move to another site to send a message to KZbin, but there is one huge problem with this. Everyone has to leave at the same time to get things moving fast because if we don't, those who leave will fail miserably real quick and the ones who stay will benefit greatly by lack of competition and increased audience.

This is a slippery slope. Policies like these can easily be used to censor things that are strictly unliked by some advertisers. Pepsi could come on and say "we will give you millions but only if you demonitize pro-trump channels" and youtube will feel that greedy pressure to do so.

I don't see how this is censorship. they didn't say you couldn't say whatever you wanted to. They're just telling you that advertisers reserve the right to not have their product associated with yours if they feel it doesn't fit or represent their product in the way they want. They pay KZbin to promote their product so don't you think it's fair they have a say what content they're going to be labeled with?

I suppose this is what happens in the market - when you have severe competition, you will do anything you can to get more users and consumers to pick you over any other alternative, including providing a platform for free expression. But the moment you begin to dominate the market, with certainty that majority of your users have nowhere else to go even if there are alternatives, you wouldn't lose much by taking steps to shoot your own consumers in the foot if that can get you more profits.
