My wife is heavily into that pokemon game, but I haven't played it. We have a four-year-old boy. When she hunts for pokemon at the parks around the house, I take my boy and toss him up on my shoulders and walk around with her. He absolutely loves it. I don't understand why they wouldn't do something like that with their kid. Life is so much better when your kid is happy.

I'm sure people will flame on me for this comment; But I'm one of those very rare people who believe there should be some kind of Government Issued Parental Permit enforcing would-be parents to make sure beforehand that they know the costs and ability to pay those costs (I'm going to guess ~150k through 18yo), have the skills and common sense to take care of, and be psychologically and emotionally stable enough to not do anything to endanger the child.

+Kefka Palazzo OP is right though. Legally, they don't abuse the child nor neglect it (feeding the child, giving it attention, vitamins, etc.) they did however do something terribly irresponsible. They will probably have to go through a long process and take parental classes but should receive the child back within 30-60 days.

an aunt of mine had twins and they were about 15 months old at the time. she left them in the crib to go to the bathroom and one of them somehow managed to get it's head stuck between the bars and ended up snapping it's own neck while trying to get out. literally 5 minutes without supervision and one of the twins was dead. that child is lucky to be alive after hours of neglect.
