How to Make Federal TSS Turkey Loads Actually Pattern Well!

If you’ve ever shot Federal TSS Turkey Loads, you may have noticed they don’t tend to pattern as well as some other TSS turkey loads out there. We had pretty much written off Federal TSS until the folks at Rectifire Chokes told us about their Spade Series. These choke tubes are designed specifically to make Federal TSS loads pattern well. Do you believe it? I guess we’ll see. Watch and find out if these typically less expensive loads can actually pattern well.

Damn impressive results all the way around. I'll buy a couple chokes probably 3 Question about your Stoger setup does it not have a drilled and Tapped receiver? Also what bracket are you using to mount to the rib ? I guess your whole setup for the dot.

We were very impressed for sure. My Stoeger is not drilled and tapped for bases, so I went with a Meadow Creek Mount. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZm4h2qsd5JrqrM It’s held up great!

Funny how much better the m3020 did vs the 870. I’ve had good luck with the federal in 12ga using patternmaster CBT or Jebs .655

I need to find some. The other thing besides 9/9.5 I’ve really seen are the 5/6/7 blends. Do you hunt with #7?

@@ReviewThisThing Federal TSS #7 and 5/6/7 Meateater blend. It took a while for me to accept a 20 ga. was as lethal as a 12, but I just can't accept shooting turkeys with dust shot, TSS or not. Won't use anything smaller than #8 TSS.

I do need to try some of that out. I’m not trying to change your mind at all, but I’ve killed at least 3 turkeys with 9 or 9.5 shot. Last year the one I killed was with Verdict 20 gauge 9 shot at 35 yards, and it had to go through a small tree/bush. It splintered several branches in the tree, too. But, hey - use what you have confidence in, right?!?

WHAT CONCERNS ME ABOUT YOUR TEST YOU DON'T SHOW YOU SIGHTING IN ON THE TARGET BEFORE YOUR SHOT. THE MOST CONCERNING THING IS YOUR HAND DRAW CIRCLES DON'T HAVE YOUR ORANGE DOT IN THE CENTER OF THE CIRCLE WHICH I ASSUME IS YOUR POINT OF AIM WHEN YOU COUNT THE PELLETS. INSTEAD THE ORANGE DOT IS OFF CENTER OF YOUR CIRCLE WHICH INFERS TO ME THAT YOU DREW THE CIRCLE AFTER THE SHOT TO PROVE YOUR POINT OF MORE OR LESS PELLETS FOR EACH CHOKE. IF THAT 'WERE TRUE THEN I WOULD CONSIDER UNFAIR BIASED TEST THAT PROVES NOTHING TO ME. THAT'S WHAT I EXTRAPOLATED FROM WHAT I OBSERVED AND DEDUCED. TELL ME IT AIN'T SO . TELL ME WHY THE ORANGE DOTS WERE MOSTLY OFF CENTER IN MOST OF YOUR 10 INCH CIRCLE PELLET COUNTS INSTEAD OF BEING CENTERED IN THE 10 INCH CIRCLE? . WHY DOES IT SEEM YOU MIGHT HAVE DREW THE CIRCLES AFTER THE SHOT INSTEAD OF BEFORE TO FIND THE BEST OR WORST PART OF THE CORE OF THE SHOT??? YOU COULD HAVE DRAWN A 10 INCH CIRCLE WITH A PAPER PLATE BEFORE YOU SHOT? YOU ALSO COULD OF AND SHOULD HAVE USED BIRCHWOOD CASEY TURKEY TARGETS. PS: I SAW THAT BOTH CHOKES WERE 560'S ON THE BOXES.

Hello, Jim. I definitely understand your concern. We did, in fact, draw the circle after the shot because the guns were not sighted in for those loads. If we were planning to hunt with any of those setups, then we would have definitely sighted the gun in for that choke and that load. But, we’ve found that every gun with different chokes shoots loads differently. Meaning to do what you are looking for, we would have had to zero each combination before doing the test. Does that make sense? We were just looking for the concentration of pellets at distance. Therefore, the 10” circle represents the greatest concentration of shot. And, I would say it’s MORE unbiased because we did the same thing for every shot. So we didn’t exclude pellets because the gun wasn’t zeroed for that load. So, once we saw a combination we wanted to hunt with, we would have zeroed it in and been ready to go! We usually do use Birchwood Casey targets (I’m sure you’ve seen that if you’ve seen our other videos), but we just chose not to in this video. Again, thanks for your input, and I hope that helped.

Hello, can you tell me if there is a difference between the Spade series and the Cyclone series? In Russia, we have practically no Rectifire products, except for the Cyclone series.

My source says: The Spade Series is only made in Turkey constrictions. Our Cyclone Series is made in Turkey, Deer, Waterfowl, & Competition constrictions. Cyclone Series patterns good with buckshot, waterfowl loads.
