Our daughter's family have visited several time with their their young (at the time) children. On one of the first visits, they were leaving the park at closing and our grandson was crying and upset that he had not gotten a balloon. A man from the park saw this and inquired what the problem was. He then took the boy and parent in his golf cart, back into the park and got him a balloon. The gentleman.....Mr. Knoeble himself. He said no child should leave the park unhappy.

Knobels was the first park that I went to with the coaster club we are in. This park is amazing. The people are wonderful. Dick was a bit under the weather when we were there, but he was the one to start off the speakers at our lunch (which was probably the best catered lunch at a theme park that I've had) and stayed around to talk with any one of us. I love this place, and it is now my annual birthday trip. What's even better is its in October

This park is so great. As you noted, very unique. Also, the family that owns and runs the park is a group of amazing people. Staff is great. Food is amazing. It’s only drawback is being so remote, but I think that is also what has made it possible to keep that “old” amusement park feel. Glad you got to experience Knoebels. I’m sure that they appreciate the review, as well. Safe journeys!

I couldn’t believe an amusement park where you park your car for free get on a tram from the parking lot to park, can take your own food if you choose. All for free. And the food you can buy is excellent and reasonably priced. I like the potato pancakes. The rides were great and reasonably priced as well. I have to give a 5 star rating to the Knoebel Family, they do a great job!

Food deserves its own section!! Probably the only park that people will go to just to eat dinner. They even have some of their most famous items at special holiday events off-season because people can’t get enough. The prices are very good for food. Also, ticket books last forever, which makes a knoebels trip so low-risk weather-wise especially if one lives close enough. Vouchers for ticket books can even be purchased at area supermarkets for a lower cost than these are in-park. Many area businesses or organizations give their employees or members tickets and host yearly picnics in the pavilions. There are also tons of special prices- Tuesdays in July were buy one get one ride-all-day passes this year!!

You got so much correct about why one comes to love this park in this review. I would add, re: the rides, that what makes many (all?) of them particularly special, is that they are rescued from other, surviving or defunct, parks. This!! One of my favorite things about Knoebels is that it's a very preservationist park, like a living museum of amusement park history. Stuff that other parks think is too outdated, unusual, or not financially viable is the kind of stuff Knoebels likes to rescue and bring back to life. Their latest project is a Bayern Kurve salvaged from the remains of two rides, once it's complete it will be one of only 3 in the world.

TLDR; why Knoebel’s is the best park in the country for families, large groups, disabled people, elderly folks and everyone else!! Local Pennsylvanian here! 😊 So glad you enjoyed Knoebel’s!! It’s our favorite park…especially for older folks and large groups. No admission to the park, picnic tables and pavilions…so it’s the only amusement park that I know of where you can bring your own food. You can pack a picnic or bring everything for a cookout. But of course, the food at the park is pretty awesome too…not to mention, less expensive than most other parks. You can buy tickets if you want to enjoy one or two rides, or an all day ride bracelet. Again, this is really nice for the elder’s in your group, very small children and disabled people. I’m disabled and older…I love that I can just buy tickets for the ferris wheel and the model T car track….I don’t have to pay admission and I don’t have to buy an all day ride pass/bracelet. The carousel museum is a must see….Knoebel’s has some of the oldest carousel animals in the US, next to the old Coney Island carousel. And many of the animals were carved/fashioned by the oldest carousel producer in the US. And don’t get me stated on entertainment….free entertainment. No need to pay for any of the live music, magic shows, story time/puppet shows or other entertainment. It’s just as free as the admission to the park!! Again…this makes Knoebel’s the best amusement park in the country for large groups that have elders or disabled folks in addition to children, teens and young adults. I adore amusement parks….and as a native Pennsylvanian we have a few great parks - Hershey Park, Dorney Park, Dutch Wonderland, Kennywood (another good one), and many more!!! But Knoebel’s is by far my favorite as I’ve gotten older and my physical abilities have become strained. Free admission, free entertainment, tons of shade everywhere…not just a blacktopped jungle, plenty of seating around the park, excellent prices on food and merchandise. A swimming pool and camp sites also available. The pool does cost extra, but it’s so cheap for a full day pass, that it seems crazy not to enjoy it during your visit. So, please come to PA and visit the park. Camp, swim, ride rides, eat, play and enjoy! ❤😊

Knoebels and Hershey are my two local parks, I don’t love PA at times for various reasons but we’re truly blessed to have two world class parks for extremely different and diverse reasons so close together. Knoebels will always have a special place in my heart and I think that’s the gold to it, it’s not about being an enthusiast, it’s about experiencing something completely unexpected and finding that charm. Whether you love coasters, antiques, museums, bizarre rides or just quality time with the family. Knoebels will come glowing with that charm, maybe it won’t be your favorite theme park, but you will always remember your experience there if you embrace it. Something will catch your eye, something will remind you of being a kid or will be that lifelong memory you’ll have as a kid. That’s why Knoebels is world class, that’s why I always recommend it over any other theme park. Knoebels is always that park that people say “probably won’t go back” but you’ll find yourself missing parts of it, if you’re back in the area I’m willing to bet you’ll feel that pull to go back. It's so close to my home that there are years I regrettably haven't even stepped foot in the park.... until Halloweekends that is! Hahaha 😂 The funniest thing about Knoebels is that every year since I moved to the area in '06 is that I've guided atleast 2 or more lost motorists/campers to their destination between I-80 and the park. Whether its an older coupler questioning their decision to take the back country wooded roads, younger kids broke down along the way "in the middle on their nowhere", or like this year the 40ft Georgetown Luxury motorhome I managed to drive up alongside just in time to stop them before they could turn down a dreadfuly narrow twisty, turny hill leading to a tiny covered bridge where they surely would've had a helluva time turning back from, I no longer curse the out of town traffic the way my impatient, younger self once did. One thing I love about this park is how heavily forested it is. It's hard to see across the park for the trees. The other is the number of historic rides they maintain. The Phoenix was transplanted from Playland Park in San Antonio, Texas in 1985. The roller coaster club I used to belong to here in Western New York still has a group visit to this park every other year. It is such a favorite of everyone. I wish you had made it up to Rochester, NY to visit Seabreeze Park. One of the few family owned (for several generations) parks with a one of the oldest, continuously run wooden coasters in the U.S.

It's a shame you guys didn't have the best operations experience. Even though we live around 2 hours away, we consider this our home park and I've been going there for 20+ years, pretty much my whole life. COVID really hit the park's staffing hard, and the fact that it's a family park and not a major corporate chain like Cedar Fair or Six Flags doesn't allow it much wiggle room when it comes to finances. You really have to visit a multitude of times to really appreciate what the park has to offer and what sets it apart from others. The park is still kinda recovering from COVID and I don't think they'll be fully at that point until next operating season.
@calebisaloser8608 Жыл бұрын
This is very true. I think the day of the week also affects the amount of staff on hand - as in weekday vs weekend- as well as the amount of trains being run on the coasters, etc, which just makes sense based on when the most people can visit. This season is for sure more staffed overall than last season. From what I’ve seen pre-and-post-pandemic, many long-time or older team members (I assume) have since retired / had to stop / are not around anymore :( because of covid. Also, all the ride operators are so kind at knoebels. Catching the brass ring, for example, comes with a huge congratulations; the conductor of ole smokey made my day when we talked about steam-powered trains. So special.

I agree with the operations mentioned in the video. the park has not really recovered well from the covid shutdowns. My family has made it a yearly visit when we go to Williamsport for our family reunion for at least the past 15 years or so. I don't like the later start to the day at 12pm, when it used to be at 10AM. That worked better for our travel plans. The other thing is that many of the attractions we have enjoyed over the years were closed. One of those being the chair lift ride up the mountain, which my 10 year old son kept asking about. Another being the Flyer (the one mentioned powered by the tractor engine) We enjoyed short lines at the Flying Turns however, which allow me and my son to ride 3 times. Still, despite the glitches with rides closed and limited operating hours, everything in the park is well maintained and in great working order.

I have been to Knoebels a few times as a kid. The family lives a little southeast of Elysburg. The Journey to the park meant being driven up into mountains, past the town that was burning. They accidentally lit the coal seam below the town on fire. It's still burning to this day, it just isn't a town anymore. Centralia, what a cool name. As an adult, I am looking forward to taking my kids later this summer.

What I love most about the park is they don't have canned music piped throughout the park. All you hear is the lovely sound of people enjoying themselves. Unless you're near the carousel or the band organ across from Phoenix. However, I wouldn't really call Knoebels a theme park. It's just an amusement park. I actually prefer Twister to Phoenix. I love the speed and laterals on Twister. I live in central New Jersey and try to make it out to Knoebels at least once or twice each operating season. It's about a three-hour drive but very much worth it in my opinion.

I live about 90 minutes from Knoebels and grew up going there. This really captures some of the things that makes this place special. The Phoenix is about as great a wooden roller coaster as you will ever find. I just went back this summer and it's still pretty much as I've always remembered it. So happy so Aussies could find their way to my area and enjoy this weird little place that somehow continues to survive and thrive.

the other rides can be a lot slower, but operations on phoenix and twister on busy days are amazing. In most cases the trains will be ready to dispatch long before it's even safe to leave the station. With two trains running Phoenix can clear a full queue in less than 15 minutes.

I grew up coming here every year in August for “Park Day” when tickets were slightly discounted (if you randomly visited during August and saw a TON of black folk then you were there during Park Day, we treat it as a family reunion of sorts lol). It was the best time, I had my usual rides I’d visit and food I’d get. The kiddie coaster, the Grand Carousel with the rings, Twister; cheese fries and funnel cake! Thank you for reviewing my childhood amusement park! Also I hate the Phoenix haha, I don’t like lifting out of my seat. I’ve never rode impulse as it kept getting stuck on the lift when I was in line for it, so I hoped out of the line haha.

Knoebels has been a part of our family for 20+ years. It's our long weekend, summer binge on good food( not necessarily healthy), pleasant walking conditions, family and friends time and incredibly reasonable for a family whose adults don't do rides. Free parking, free entrance, reasonable food prices and of course reasonable all day ride passes and/ or tickets. The adult kids still want to go, whether for nostalgia or favored rides or family and friend time, we still go almost every year.

I went to this Amusement Resort 3 times. I went to Knoebels with my then-wife and her family. It is more than an Amusement Park. It has a campground as well. It has sites for tent camping and sites for Campers and Trailers. They also have cabins that have just sleeping lofts to fully furnished and have a small kitchen and indoor plumbing. A family can rent fully furnished houses that surround the park. Did you notice flood level markers??? The park receives a lot of rain during severe thunderstorms and sometimes a hurricane or tropical storm. The campground has a free shuttle bus service for people to get to the park without walking. The food is so good. I wish I had the chance to ride Flying Turns. That ride was being constructed the 3 times I was there and after the 3rd time I went, they opened the after we left a few weeks after. I would love to ride it. I can't because I don't have money or a car to go anywhere. My former mother-in-law's partner was the one who drove us to Knoebels. I miss going to the park. I miss camping there. I miss waking up in the morning to crisp clean air and eating breakfast. Eating while camping is so much better. We had to bring our own water since I can't drink well water. Something about well water screws up my digestive system. I swam in the pool there and it was so refreshing. I still have a sweatshirt from Knoebels. I took 2 videos of me riding Twister and Phoenix. The Alamo restaurant has some great food. That is my review.

We used to bring our daughter when she was younger. It was great because it was no cost entry, we only needed to pay for ride tickets, and whatever tickets we had leftover, we could bring back with us the following year to use. Once she got older and could go on bigger rides we would get the day pass wrist bands. It was a great park to spend the day, and so cost efficient for families. I also loved the nostalgia, especially when I heard The Haunted Mansion is the oldest "dark ride" still in operations (as far as I know). I think that is really something considering there aren't many dark rides like that left in the US.

A half century ago, I was fortunate enough to go to Hershey Park, Knoebel's Grove and Dorney Park pretty much every year. Knoebel's was always my favorite. That carousel was the highlight for me, and I once got five brass rings in one ride. The shade is probably the best part of it. You aren't sunburned and dehydrated at the end of the day.

Knoebels is one of the best parks in the USA....we are not a locals, live 1000 miles away. We have been to many of the big parks in the US and Europe. Its charm is in the food(best food at a park), laid backness, and open experience. We enjoyed it more than Hersey park, minus Hersey's super nice hotels.

If you get another chance to visit you should try the camping. If you rent a cabin or tent-site you get passes to the pool and water slide and they have some lovely cabins. It’s so peaceful and lovely that you don’t miss the fancy hotels near the bigger parks. 😊 As for Hershey Park….it’s ok, but the best park in Pennsylvania for people who are looking to have a typical amusement park experience would definitely be Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom. It’s located near Allentown, PA and of course there are nice hotels and restaurants nearby. But it’s definitely the type of park where you want to buy a weekend or multiple day pass, get a hotel room or campsite (there are campgrounds nearby as well) and just enjoy your mini-vacay! 😊❤

I moved to the area about 10 years ago and had a ton of people tell me I HAD to check out Knoebels. Having been to many of the "big ones" like Disney and Six Flags, my expectations for a free admission amusement park weren't high. I went on opening weekend with friends visiting from out of state and, well let's just say I had to issue an apology to the folks I doubted. One of my favorite things is that I can bring my husband and not have to pay $40 - $80 for him to walk around and ride the train. Another is that, only being 40 minutes away, I can grab my bag of ride tickets and head over to the park after work for my roller coaster fix.

I can’t tell you how many times I have painfully forked out hundreds of dollars on admission tickets for family members who ride very few or no rides. Knoebel’s free admission is something to be treasured. If makes the whole experience so pleasant when you don’t feel robbed by the park.

Always surprised at how good the rides are at knoebels for how cheap the park is. They have some really good coasters, and I personally love rides like the Black Diamond and the Haunted Mansion for their old animatronics. They may be very cheesy and outdated, but that just adds to their charm. I have a soft spot for Hersheypark, because that’s the closest park to me and I worked there for a summer, but even going there can get a bit pricey.

@@kholbrook203 Haunted Mansion is a dark ride so it’s not fast at all, just loud noises and things popping out at you. Great review! Too bad you did not cover more of the food options. Their food is exceptional, and they have won the "best amusement park food" award for many years. As you said, you can bring your own food, but why bother when you have a tremendous variety of reasonably priced options. From breakfast till dinner, the options are endless. All you can eat fish fry, all you can eat spaghetti, turkey legs, pork chops on a stick, Alligator bites, Polish foods, Mexican, American, roast beef, potato cakes, pierogies, and of course Pizza. In addition, a full service indoor restaurant (the Alamo) where you can relax and have a complete dinner indoors. We live three hours away, and will come multiple times a year, sometimes just to enjoy the different foods. The Crystal Pool is something you missed. Spring fed water means the pool is always cool, even on the hottest days. Admission to the pool includes a locker, and you can enter and leave as often as you like. We live right by Six Flags Great Adventure, and have been members there for 40 years, but we have a better time at Knoebels! They put Great Adventure to shame.

That said I've been to Knoebel's once -- and I don't regret the time spent in the least.
