Learn German Lesson 9 - Sentence structure (Part 1) | Satzstruktur (Teil 1)​
Knowing how to form a basic sentence in a new language is very essential to learning a language in the right way. And in lesson 9 you will learn the sentence structure of simple and basic sentences.
You will learn how to form basic sentences and questions. The main things that will be covered in this lesson are:
• Correct placement of the verb in a sentence.
• What is a Subject?
• What are W-Questions?
• What are Yes-No-Questions?
A simple exercise at the end of the lesson will help you understand the structure easily.

so i know you are not supposed to learn alot of grammar at the begining, but lots of people are having trouble in this part, so i think it should be explained a simple sentence/clause(no need to know what that means) can be divided into three parts: subject, verb and object. the subject does the action of the verb, and the object suffers that action. so in the phrase "ich und meine Schwester essen Äpfel" the verb is esse(eat 1st per. sing.). now you ask: who eats? *ich und meine Schwester* , so that is the subject. now "what is being eaten?", *Äpfel* , so Äpfel is the object. in this phrase, subject is first position, verb is second and object is third. the number of words is not what matters, it's the syntactic function that defines the position

.... 4:13: "wie alt sind sie"... here the verb is in the THIRD position. Typically with "wie", you have exceptions to the verb being in the second position. Please be a bit more careful in your conclusions and examples!
