I liked the two first games more than the third, but this Song along with Cosmoflips makes the third game worthy. I liked the songs from the first two games but this one, in my opinion, is the best of all the hymmnos songs.

IMHO, part of the reason Rebirthia Protocol (RP) comes before Cosmoflips both in "pieces" and AT3 Hymmnos Concert seems to be that the first part of RP appears in the game even earlier than Cosmoflips does; you can hear that part while roaming inside the tower (the singing voice disappears after the Rebirthia Protocol event.) Just my two cents ;)

These two songs were developed by APPH for the sole purpose of planet regeneration, and can only be processed by Tilia and the third tower. And to further add to your point, both songs are sung in the correct order during the game. Of course, I'm only talking about when they are sung successfully, so I'm not counting here Rebirthia Protocol's original failed singing, or the eternal corrupted playback that can be heard inside the Tower.

@akito989 No, this is the right video. Both songs start a very similar haunting call around the 25-30 second mark. (Though admittedly this one breaks out into proper song after a minute.). I should probably have been clearer by stating that the beginnings of the two pieces struck me as similar.

Qoga is a failure, anyone into the EXA_PICO fandom can agree to that. But the Hymmnos are certainly on-par with the others of the series.

A setting as deep as the first two games = Check Songs with feelings as complex as the ones featured in the previous two games, plus the addition of other musical styles to respect that in-universe all Reyvateils have individual musical preferences = Check A good story that ties up its own plot threads in addition to those remaining from the first two games = Check A well-developed main and secondary cast = Check An interesting adaptative music system that reflects how the Reyvateils actually sing for combat in-universe = Check Yeah, completely lacking in heart compared to the their predecessors. /s If you're going to to call it trash, I can't see how you could have ever liked any of the other games in the series.

I disagree with all of your checks completely except in regards to the music and SOME of the world building. The music is incredible. It's much more diverse and innovation than the previous games, both of which i adore and love with all my heart. But the characters, except for maybe Tyria, are flat as fuck IMO. There's way more amped up sexual references and fanservice than the other two games, which wouldn't have to be a problem in and of itself if it wasn't done so poorly and tasteless, and in my view, at the expense of depth. We clearly don't see eye to eye on this, but I'm sorry, I don't see any of the depth or quality of writing in script or character IN THE PRODUCT ITSELF, compared to the other games. Yes, the music is good, the world building behind the scenes is good, but when you put that disc in all you get are jiggle physics, monotonous gameplay, and bad writing. In summary, I like Ar tonelico, LOVE ar tonelico 2, and enjoyed Ar Nosurge, and yes, I think this game is a pile of trash when forced to stand up on its own. When you lean it up against its music, predecessors, and world building content that isn't even featured in the game, it looks a little better. But by itself, I find it horrible and an embarrassment.

Except they didn't sacrifice any of the depth you're speaking of, and the characters aren't as flat as you seem to believe: just the pasts of Gojo, Richa, Mute and Katene should be more than enough to demonstrate it, to say nothing of Finnel's development as a character and the reasons she has to have the personality she does. And before you start going into the "world building in content that isn't even featured in the game", newsflash: more than half of the worldbuilding in all the other games isn't featured in them, so it's idiotic to chalk that up as a fault to AT3 in specific. I also think that I have refuted completely the claim that they weren't putting any heart into it when they actually put as much effort as in the previous games, not to mention they were walking into uncharted territory between the adaptative music system and developing for the PS3 for the first time. And as a far as I'm concerned, anyone who considers this game to be horrible trash in spite of its good points isn't worthy talking to and in fact, the true abomination is someone who considers themselves a fan of the series but then shits on one of its main entries, and the one of the most important ones to boot.
