Okay so I have to make a decision between French and History for A-level. I've really struggled with French over the course of my GCSEs due to a poor teaching department and the GCSE reformation but then I got a tutor who really helped and gave me a passion for the language. So, I started working so much harder for French and ended up with an 8 but I got a 9 in history (which I find pretty boring). Grades are really important to me but that's not to say I wouldn't do well in French but I guess what I'm trying to say is I really don't know what to take!!
@diamondsaf50646 жыл бұрын
Mary Mitchell if you find history boring I suggest you go with French. It is really important to enjoy your a level subject and history has tons of reading, so you may find it harder to revise. :) I'm doing French in year 12 now and was considering taking history instead, but I think I'm sticking with French. Hopefully it will be okay haha

I'm gonna continue learning French on my own though so it's fine

SparklyTrash I'm about to go into Year 10 and I would like to do medicine at university, I think I want to do maths, biology, chemistry and spanish at a-level though, and I've seen videos wheee people say 'only take the subjects that they want, they are more likely to accept people with all the sciences and maths rather than a humanity or language' which threw me off, but apparently as long as you can explain why your choice was relevant to medicine (e.g you want to work in another country) it's ok?double check but I'm feeling the same as you because I love Spanish and I would really like to continue it at a-level!!
@Em-eo4qf7 жыл бұрын
Anya Poundall yeah that sounds fine, it's just because I'm doing psychology too so I would only have had two sciences. You only really need two, but three makes life a lot easier, so you'll be alright

Really late reply but for anyone reading: for the vast majority of med schools, you only need bio and chem (for some you only beed chem) - literally only cambridge want three sciences/maths. I do French a level (along with bio and chem) and I just got accepted for Medicine at Oxford

I got an A at French GCSE and managed to get an A at A Level as well. Honestly, I found it incredibly difficult at first to the point where my teacher advised me to drop it, but it seriously gets easier! You naturally pick up the language and before you know it you're able to write essays and speak so much more fluently. This is coming from a student who did not find it easy at a level in the slightest. Stick with it and you'll see yourself improve so much! :)

I got an A* at GCSE and managed an A at A Level! You will be so surprised at how much you pick up with more frequent lessons - remember you're probably doing 2 or 3 timetabled hours a week at GCSE, and it's many more in sixth form. It definitely wasn't an easy option but compared to other subjects it's so rewarding as you're learning an actual skill rather than just facts you'll forget after exams. You'll be fine! Best of luck x

I dropped Spanish at the end of 1st year. Didn't even get an AS level because I dropped it two weeks before the end of the year. I love Spanish. I'm good at it and I love everything about it and learning about the Spanish speaking world. Unfortunately, my course was organised pretty shittily and I want to do physics so it's irrelevant. Also, there's no fucking resources for the new spec which is SO different from the old one so I couldn't even use the last spec (I'm same yr as you). Eugh it upsets me so much that I gave it up but tbh it was for the best and if I continued onto A level (can't do this any more because I didn't do all the progression tests) I wouldn't do very well 😢😒

Spanish came quite easily to me at gcse i didn't really feel like i had to do much to come out with a good grade but I'm worried that I'll have too much work if i took on spanish as a 4th a level. Any advice??

Hi Eve, thanks for this video! My name is Monique and I am hopefully going to start Spanish A level in September. I really want to do well at a level and I don’t want to struggle, considering I’m not native. Have you got any advice for things I can do over the summer to get my Spanish up to A* standard! 😉😁
