well, yeah, you have to consider the (political) climate at the time. People were just made aware of climate issues, and it was the biggest thing to fight them. It was a huge weigh on their minds. Really strange how that's not incorporated into contemporary futurology... (see: cyberpunk, it's a massive thing now) ;;;;; I guess doomscrolling makes people not realize the beauty of individuality? I implore you to reconnect with nature, you might find it helps you more than you could ever have imagined. (Edit: excessive) Connectivity is a curse, but it's not an immortal thing, we're just in a pit society-wise, one that (I think) we're already coming out of. As Tolkien said, evil cannot create, so in turn, evil will rot, nothingness will only be nothing for us. I am excited for the future, though I don't think many of us will look back at the "good old 2020s" anytime.

@@sbubwoofer You hit the nail on the head. These things come in cycles. I think the whole "doomscrolling" and dystopian aesthetics (and lifestyles) will fall out of favor, as all things do, especially if (or most likely, when) the energy grid switches to "green." Frutiger Aero is like the precursor of Solarpunk, and I'm for it. I imagine we'll be seeing something like this come into vogue as "green" becomes a way of life as opposed to a movement or a niche. Side note, Internet Club's albums, especially "Redefining the Workplace," always brought me back to this vibe.

When Tomorrowland premiered in 2015. Why won't they help the movie by going to theaters so that the movie can be profitable? I would be a consultant for 70 dollars a month for that movie and make corrections to the script, just one example: in the last scene they give a pin to a European or American ballet dancer, I would change that scene for a woman of the same age as Africa who is living in Africa and is working through the difficulties of being a ballet dancer. Desire and be a ballet dancer in Europe in the year 2005 with a cultured public that already exists, and maintain that culture and inspiration with a pre-established cultured society and a percentage of that society will see that ballet dancer, desire to be a ballet dancer. ballet in Europe is easy; On the other hand, I wish to be a ballet dancer in Africa, a woman who, by chance, was given greater intelligence, conscience and empathy by the genetic lottery, and she knows the social and economic problems, human moral degeneration, environmental decay, political corruption, etc. who lives in most African countries including her country of origin, wanting to be a ballet dancer there would have to think that for her to have an audience there, things would have to improve along with the mentality of the average African changing for the better and wanting to increase their intelligence through books and content that adds to one on the internet (browsing after 5 years), that aspiring African ballet dancer thinks and wishes that with her art of ballet dance she inspires her society to that improvement after many challenges and defeats in the end, overcome, with her dream of being a ballet dancer, not only would she be fulfilling her dreams, but she would be improving her society for the better and a turning point for the future. Dreaming about being a ballet dancer in Africa IS being a realistic dreamer (when she is intelligent) and she DOES need to be given the Tomorrowland Pin. The above is the context and reason for only ONE correction that I would make to the script of the movie Tomorrowland. Because I have more corrections, like adding arguments from the book "The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion" by Jonathan Haidt in Hugh Laurie's speech, another correction as a fair and upright judge (but smart to deserve the Pin ) in a corrupt justice system, which also receives the Pin in the final scene, current reality with programmed obsolescence and the falsehood of companies and media with the environment, internet censorship to not combat certain issues , regular people choose content for “fun” that makes them dumber, etc. There are more adjustments that I would make to the film's script, which the film's screenwriter Brad Bird was unable to make due to lack of knowledge of general culture and current and historical reality. Giving a film that is more human, more inspiring and at the same time soft to assimilate so that children can go home and dream while they sleep (and adults too).

Frutiger Aero was the apex of optimistic futurism and in an era that perhaps came the closest to achieving it's dreamed utopia. I guess that's what makes it so bittersweat to look back on knowing the future we were all promised throughout our childhoods would never come to be. I can only hope that someday a new generation will be able to recapture this feeling we all felt once not that long ago.

This. This truly hurts. I was 11 when we got the internet in 2000 and I just remember being so optimistic about the future. In retrospect, I can see how frutiger aero subconsciously influenced it as well as with these futuristic yet light hearted songs. I feel so sad for this generations youth, surrounded with such trauma from social media, global conflicts and turmoil that wasn’t prevalent in the late 90s / early 2000s.

What makes it closer to achieving its utopia than other versions of utopia? Much of the progress of the past few decades has turned out to be nothing more than stock market manipulation giving the impression that the economy was doing great. The rest of it wasn't built on a stable foundation and came apart whenever it faced adversity.

At the time though, as a teen/kid I thought this was super modern compared to the ‘boxy and brown’ 90’s. It’s strange how fashion and tech moves on so quickly.

This is a weird kind of nostalgia, because it’s not really 2000s nostalgia. Most of this is 80s and 90s nostalgia from the 2000s. Like a predecessor to Vaporwave. It’s meta nostalgia. Reminds me of walking around in a dying place in the 2000s that used to be alive in the previous decades, but somehow it gets even more specific. Like it’s before the post 2008 bleakness. It’s in 2002 when there’s a big new mall that just opened in your city, and for some reason you’re walking around the old mall that was built in the 60s and is going to close down soon. Or a nice new skating complex has opened up in 2004 and you’re at the old roller rink that has been around since the 70s. Or going to the airport where one terminal got renovated in 2006, but your flight departs from the terminal that is stuck in the 80s and even still has signs for defunct airlines. Going to the ancient arcade that still has Pac-Man and Galaga instead of the shiny new Dave and Busters that is like a casino for kids. It’s like using a payphone to call your parents because your Nokia ran out of battery. I’ve heard that this happens. Like 50s nostalgia is a core part of 80s nostalgia.

@@dougfisher2060 i totally agree, i'm only 13, but looking back at just movies, or footage, or anything from before all this modernization came into place, everything looked better, espescially logos. i really dont understand why companies think that logos that have the name in arial, and look like they are ai generated are cool. johnson and johnson is one of the best examples of this garbage. i truly hope that i can relive or atleast my kids can relive what people in the 80s and 90s could, when the world felt alive, and that people were creative with their aesthetics

@@michaelsobech7680 I've seen plenty of people who lived through the '90s claim that the '90s were a soulless, artistically bankrupt decade, and that there was nothing unique to each decade between the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. But now the unique '90s aesthetic is undeniable, and the '00s aesthetic is emerging as unique. Remember, a part of what people focus on in '80s and '90s nostalgia is how _fake_ and consumerist garbage so much of it was. But what's fake and corporate in the present because charming in the future, the naivete of it. So in the future, people might look back and agree with the stupidity of minimalist logos with Arial font, but they'll also have some understanding of _why_ the culture moved in that direction, what we were seeking after, and find something bittersweet and memorable about it.

When I was in college in the 2010's this aesthetic was still huge. It was my favorite, along with vectorflourish. Learned a lot about design solely based in these two aesthetics and now I miss them. I mean the current minimalism is nice, I like the clean shapes that remind me of vectors but I miss when everything had the lifely, optimistic feel of Frutiger Aero. We need to bring it back! Technology feels so much warmed and human in this aesthetic! Now that we have smart devices integrated in every aspect of our lives, it'd be sooooo much better

This is the future we want. Clean cities and unharmed nature working together. Problems made manageable with no stagnation. I've been on a 2000's binge as of late, from watching classic video game commercials to enjoying things I watched in that time, not exclusive to anime either. But I think it goes deeper than that. In the decades leading up to the year 2000, everyone believed in the turn of the new century and the expectation of everything being futuristic, sleek, white, pristine. Free from all the grunge and grime that came before it. All the logos from websites to products and advertisements even reflected the smooth nature of what the future was supposed to bring. Of course, change ain't that quick, as it happens only over time. But in all honesty? We need to believe in things like this still, even if for Nostalgia reasons. How else will they be made actual if the idea wasn't so enticing to begin with?

bro when c418's "cat" came on i legit started crying because i haven't played Minecraft in a decade due to life getting busy and losing interest im 19 and graduated, i gotta play Minecraft again, even though i know its not the same as it was i still wanna play again UPDATE: on September 26th 2023 i turned 20 years old and received three presents: a Nintendo switch and two games: animal crossing new horizons and Minecraft. after eating my cake and thanking my father for the gifts, i immediately started my switch and booted up Minecraft, made a creative world, and had fun just like the old times. i will admit i play animal crossing alot more than Minecraft due to animal crossing having more to do and is overall more entertaining for me (Minecraft is fun with the building freedom, but i like how animal crossing gives you rewards for little tasks that keep you busy), but im very happy im playing Minecraft again, in fact, im also learning command blocks now, something ive always wanted to try. its been a few months and im glad i found time to return to this comment and update UPDATE 2 : guess who got a new computer and also plays Minecraft on it?

I like this strange aesthetic trend that is going on. I legit have trouble figuring out what most of the interiors are meant to be, but they feel like the promise of a future that never happened, and I sense a weird connection as well as eerieness towards them, a lot like liminal space pictures, almost like an optimistic and distant future of the backrooms? I can't quite describe it.

I get major corporate vibes from the art...but...you know...the corpos making them actually had some idea of that things should look nice and inviting. So you get promising green fields, clean nature and inviting but not intrusive big cityscapes. It almost comes off as like "globalism...but if we did everything right in going at it" sort of vibe. I especially dig how...a consistent theme is space. Like, you...as the viewer in a lot of these videos have freedom and space, you get the notion you could turn around and walk where you want and still have a nice trip.
