The best part about this was the whole villains coming together bit. When I first played this, in 2002, I was caught by surprise on the villains. I could tell who they all were, but it was still exciting to see.

The villain council was something I know I enjoyed as a kid, but didn’t think much of as I got older and replayed the game a couple times. This was the first playthrough where I really went “Wait, this was actually really cool!”
@dominick91307 ай бұрын
This reminds me so much of my first playthrough. You get just as hyped as I was, when I saw all these little rooms in each world. It was like every time I found one, I’d celebrate in my head. Just the little things the game lets you do ie: The lights, useless but cool rooms, wack world design, trinitys. I put so many more hours into KH1 than any other KH game just because I can vibe out in the little rooms.
@ItsAmandaBruhh6 ай бұрын
Dude, i feel the same way! I loved interacting with the world and exploring. I did more exploring in kh1 than any other kh game. It had so many secrets and had you as the player figure it out

I remember my brother giving me his copy of KH1 and replaying it as a 29 year old and still crying at the end when my girlfriend was watching, such a beautiful game. Ive only played one and 2 though, theres too many games to keep up with if you arent a hardcore gamer

I remember playing this when it came out and never beat it, but when I had heart surgery in 2005, I restarted this from scratch and had my own dive to the heart. This game series is my comfort series as well as the sense of wonder and innocence. I hope this series does something similar to you all

I actually just finished the game yesterday, after only having played KH2 for 16 years. You highlighted many things very well, it was interesting to see how they experimented back then. At one point I looked up a guide because I never ever would have used thunder on the broken cable in Traverse Town lol, it was so strange to me. Also I agree I would have liked to see more refined platforming, but in the end they seemed to have made the best choices on what to refine in KH2 I feel. Cool video!

I totally agree about the Disney Villains council. We need that energy back.

I still think kh1 is the best in the series. Dont get me wrong I think kh2 is better mechanically in terms of combat. But kh1 has a far better sense of exploration and charm that the rest of the series seems to lack. Kh2 has better combat but kh1 is more memorable.
@TheComfySpotVids6 ай бұрын
Yeah there are some things that KH1 does that I’d say are better than in KH2, but I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite. It’s always been a top three entry for me, and replaying it for this series certainly made me more fond of it.

Funny thing, I never played KH at all, even as a kid I never knew of its existence. I was a huge PS2 buff, but rarely ever got my hands on the good games. I had some of the PlayStation Greatest Hits collections like the Jak and Daxter Trilogy, God Of War, Godzilla Save The Earth, PAC Man World 3, etc. Had I known of this games existence, I most likely would’ve become a true KH buff. Sadly I’m a little late to that party. But as they say, “Better late than never.” I have almost caught up with the entire octology. I’ve played KHUX, KHDR, KH, KH COM, KH Days, KH 2, KH RC, and KH DDD. I’ve yet to finish KH Days and RC. I’ve also yet to play KH III and ML. I love this franchise and all it represents. It’s a nice message about love, friendship, and trust. The game teaches us to face our fears and battle our inner demons, while accepting that they are a part of us. It teaches us that the love and memories we share with each other give us the strength we need during the dark times. The heart is truly a powerful thing and it’s how you use that power that makes who you become.

Kh3, has by far the most exploration. I LOVE 3. I have so much nostalgia for the others, but 3, other than difficulty to an extent, is by far the best game. As far as being the most well rounded.

The council was so important and I hate that they stopped making Disney villains part of the overall narrative. And even more so they stopped making the Disney villains the bosses. It turned into just being random shaped heartless bosses that have no relevance. The fact that the story got so convoluted really kills me because the first one was so simple and so perfect. And lastly, it feels like some of the new games have just become set dressing for a plethora of mini games instead of focusing on the main game.

Kh2 might be the best in the series but there is just somthing soooo special about kh1 they just go so much right the simple yet complex level designs, I love that in some worlds you interact with the environment and things change disnt really do much its just a cool thing youncan do and of course Billy F*cking Zane as the big bad is amazing "I mean I could listen to him read the phonebook just sayjn" anyine who is fan of the series this game still holds up great.

Going to be honest and say that I'm not really big on this series, it's in large part because I never grew up playing these games. I get that, usually anything that suffers from "Seinfield is Unfunny" will have that effect. I feel like I would like KH as a franchise more if I played them as a kid and had that childhood attachment. With all that said however, you got me curious on KH1's level design, I actually like the idea of games with backtracking with no maps, and very little handholding, I have played a number of games with backtracking and that requires you to explore and pay attention and KH1's level design sounds like it has the "first installment weirdness" charm that the first Devil May Cry had. I need to replay KH1 for myself to properly judge but on paper KH1's levels do have much more personality in how you interact with them compared to it's sequels. I am not sure if I will play through the entire series, KH3 without that childhood attachment is hard to go through, but you piqued my interest regarding *this* particular game.
@TheComfySpotVids7 ай бұрын
I totally get you not being too into the series if you didn’t play them as a kid growing up. For some people, it was a matter of right game at the right time in their childhood. I’m glad that my thoughts on the level design piqued your interest enough to consider replaying KH1! It’s largely the only game in the series with a sort of level design that’s not so simplistic. DDD might do more interesting things with its level design (I don’t remember much about that game), but it’s not until KH3 where the level design actually gets interesting again. Trust and believe that it’s something I know I’ll talk about in future videos for this series.

@@TheComfySpotVids Funnily enough as a kid, I got to choose between Simpsons Road Rage and KH1, and I chose the former, I got to wonder if that ultimate effected my game taste. I really like to think if kid me would get into KH1 at all. I remember KH3 not being as simplisitc as 2 but it never really made you be as observant as KH1 did, I haven't played 3 in a while. I might replay KH1 again sooner or later, I'm planning to play more RPGs in the coming future hopefully.
