Revisiting MXGP 2021 - Career Mode (Ep. 8)

With MX vs ATV Legends now out and creating a lot of talking points both good and bad in moto games, I felt that today would be a good time to revisit the counterpart of motocross, MXGP 2021. This Milestone game honestly bothered me a lot at release, but is it bad? Let's talk a bit about it while we play through the career mode some more.

Personally I’ve never fully understood the complaints, the game has always felt great to me even with the “revamps” and adjustments to the physics. The main complaint I’ve heard is how fast you will spin/slide out in corners but I’ve found if you practice throttle control in corners and lock in a tune for your bike you’ll be fine!

The game is inherently wonky. Any track that has an uphill turn will show you as much. You can be going 2 miles an hour on an uphill turn and your front end will lift up off the ground.

I had a hard time enjoying this game with advanced physics because of what you pinpoint with the squirreliness, but once I switched it to arcade physics, the traction actually felt correct and became one of my favorite outdoor mx games in the series if not ever. Give it a shot! I bought legends to support the mx game community but frankly I don't enjoy it

Everyone complains that it’s the same cut and paste game every year but the crazy thing is if they didn’t change anything about the next game and focused just on making a good terrain deformation for a whole year it would make the game feel 10 times better and newer. If they take the physics since supercross 3 with the mxgp 3 terrain deformation with bigger scaling they’ll have the perfect game

With more than 200 hours in this game I can confidently say that it is one of the best, if not the best, out of the mx games. AI still gives a challenge, phisics are the most advanced and the animations, and the game itself is developed way better than all of the other games. It of course takes some time to get used to the riding logic but after that the riding is levels above/different from what is visible in this video. I welcome you to come ride together sometime. :)

All I can say is milestone games are much better than MX vs ATV games. MX vs ATV has a mobile game arcady feel to it

Man i would hate to be a console only mx gamer. Milestone and rainbow games have been pretty bad for a long time. Thank god we have sim and bikes on pc.

@@Vahisofficial total opposite mate. There is fully adjustable terrain deformation in both games and there is different terrain types. Console mx games are nothing compared to what we have on pc

This game feels so much better after playing supercross which is so difficult and Legends which feels so fake this game feels the most realistic for an MX game. The bikes handle and move very close to realistic sure there isn’t ruts but the racing feels right.

Hear me out, the wonkiness of these arcade moto games stems from Unreal Engine. Its cheap for these companies to develop on it but after all these years to still have unrefined physics, i think its pretty clear that its engine limitations. This is a hard problem to solve tho, there is engines that are built for racing games but usually those cater to cars which dont really translate to bikes, the best option would be to develop an engine for motocross games, but the argument against that would be how much time, money, and expertise it would take to do so. I think its possible but these companies will not even try. Every game before Mx vs Atv All Out was not made on UE, they were made on engines that were specific to the physics needed for an mx game. People love Reflex, and of course it used its own physics engine called Rhythm Racing 2.0, which was created by Rainbow Studios. They can do it, they or thq just dont want to, because why invest more time and money to make their games better when people are buying them anyways. We as a community need to push them away from using Unreal Engine if we really want better physics.

Mxgp 3 was pretty good with the physics, you had scrubs, whips and ruts, all actually working. I had a lot of complains when they switched engine but goin back to 3 feels pretty good if you play it the correct way and I'm enjoying the game again.

I play F1 22 regularly and I know how you feel with the rear end traction I play with no TC and it’s a challenge but it’s possible but Lando Norris said if you actually want a more realistic traction play on medium TC because that’s what the car really feels like

Haven't played this in months but when supercross 5 came out I thought MXGP was better! No idea how this would feel compared to legends now 🤣 might have to try it. Definitely remember it being easy to lose the back end and the AI being crazy good once they got past you!

I like this game, bought it for 9€ on sale yesterday! I don't like the supercross series as I just jump outside the track, ai crash me out etc etc but mxgp gives me big tracks with big jumps and insanly amount of customizations so I'm very happy for it! Gives me what I seek. Mx vs atv feels more like a kids game with super big jumps and unrealistic physics so that's a no as well. Hoping they release mxgp again in future

Find myself playing this more than supercross5, I agree with the AI corner speed and once they pass you that they are basically gone, but I find the 450 to handle better when you comes to it being wobbly

Finally played this. Sure wish mx games were closer to reality now days than they are. Not a big improvement on the Last gp games but kinda gettin there..... KIND OF.... @@daniellopezpostigo9144 the wobble is very realistic for MXGP these guys set their bikes up much softer than we do because of the sand they ride and head shake has always been a common problem over there. we have mostly eliminated it since the 90s when Honda and Suzuki were known for it. But it happens under acceleration or deceleration in real life if the bike isn’t balanced right which most race bikes are taller in front or back depending what the rider likes.

The "auto balance" thing when you lean the bike and it immediately goes back to center it self in this game is an horrendous physics choice that both plays and looks horrible. And I'm not going to talk about the whole whip/scrub thing which is completely useless and absolutely nonsense. I will ask to anyone to go play mxgp 3 and compare with this and try to figure out why in the hell milestone went so wrong year after year after that game.

Well it’s accurate if you stop leaning or turning a bike it immediately rights itself it’s physics and all the complaints about the whips are stupid that is also how you actually whip a bike you send your ass and the bike one way while your upper body and bats go the other way. Than reverse that motion to bring it back.

@@jonruger in the game is not the inertia of self alignment but a force pushing you to the center constantly that makes impossible to keep a line and every tiny correction moves you back to the center everytime you stop pushing the analog stick. The wips have zero rotation force or inertia, ist just a bad animation poorly executed, like honestly, go play mxgp 3 and tell me this physics are better.

This game and 2019 suck ass. Mxgp3 was the last good game they made. Supercross 3 was pretty cool if you like supercross. The speed wobble shit in this game makes no sense and would make it unplayable for me. Also the whips in these games are dog shit, somehow they got worse from mxgp3
