Revisiting Nickelodeon GAS

From 1999 to 2007, Nickelodeon GAS was a channel on cable TV that mostly consisted of re-runs of family friendly game shows from the 90's. It was something I watched a fair bit as a child, so I decided to revisit it for a few minutes !

Or if you had Dish Network you still had Nick Gas until April of 2009 then it was replaced with Cartoon Network West Coast.

Man, I wanted to be on all the Nick GAS shows as a kid, it was a sad day when the channel went off-air and became the N to just play Degrassi non-stop (although they played Kenan and Kel too, that was good)

@@lalaland2107 it depended on what tv provider you had. Originally, The N and Noggin shared channel space, but once Nick Gas ended some providers got The N/Teennick and others got Cartoon Network West. Noggin later became Nick Jr. the channel.

Yes!!!! I wish I could buy all those and let my kids watch them once I have kids at least... IDK if I'm just too old, but cartoons nowadays (with the exception of a small handful) just seem very annoying, and too wrapped up in pop culture, and adult bullshit. Kids can't be kids anymore, they have to be dragged into everything, from the music, to trans stuff, to different political stances, etc etc... I'm like, just fucking give them some cool shit to be entertained by, and maybe learn a few moral lessons along the way, but I feel like they are essentially training a bunch of spoiled, loud, pretentious, money and fame hungry zombies, as is evident in many young teens today.

'89 kid here I remember when these shows came on Nickelodeon in the 90s. My favorites were Wild and Crazy kids, Hey Dude, Pete and Pete, All That, Shelly Woo, Wienerville, All Real Monsters,Rug Rats, Rocko's Modern Life, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Ren and Stempy, Alvin and the Chipmunks and some other cartoons repeats from the 80s.

Just in case you don’t know this, there’s a free app called Pluto TV (basically like live TV that’s free) and there’s a whole channel dedicated to reruns of shows like GUTS, Legends of the Hidden Temple, etc. You should check it out if you haven’t already.

Thanks to Nick Gas, I wouldn’t had exposure to Legends of the Hidden Temple, Guts, and known that there were several more editions of Double Dare than just the 2000 edition. Also can’t forget the Heroes of the Game series.

Nick Gas was such a nostalgic channel for me, and I watched it a ton in my younger days. I have had many fond memories with the commercials, the shows themselves, and more, and seeing as it was taken off the air, it really felt saddening.

Since 2015 each Classic Nickelodeon Game Shows: Double Dare (1986-88), Super Sloppy Double Dare (1987, 1989), Family Double Dare (1990-93), Nickelodeon GUTS (1992-95), Global GUTS (1995), Legends of the Hidden Temple (1993-95), Figure It Out (1997-99), Figure It Out: Family Style (1998) and Figure It Out: Wild Style (1999) are now airs sporadically on TeenNick.

The GAS introduced me to Make the Grade, Think Fast, Finders Keepers, and Get the Picture. Those were all originally off the air by the time I was in second grade, so I don't remember them.

I miss old Nick. Like all it is now is Spongbob (I used to love it as a kid but it got tiring pretty fast). Legends of the hidden temple was my favourite. Wanted to be on it so badly even though I lived in the UK. I wish they would bring back a new version of these shows. It would work though and get viewership again. There was also a UK version of Legends of the hidden temple that I used to watch.
