Nynke, what a touching video about Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, one of the most important religious sanctuaries in Poland. Beauty and happiness permeat every frame, amazing how much you've changed in those two years and what a wonderful country we live in, you and me. I encourage you to do a more in-depth study of this Sanctuary and then to walk the whole itinerary which in total consists of 42 chapels and churches (among them all the 12 chapels of Christ's Way of the Cross). In order to whet your appetite to do so, I'll tell you a story related to this amazing place and I'll tell you about a subtle but very important Flemish/Dutch accent related to it. The story has it that Dorota Herbutówna of Felsztyn, the wife of Mikołaj Zebrzydowski, the Great Crown Marshal and Voivode of Kraków and the founder of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, while sitting with her husband in one of the chambers in the tower of the Castle of Lanckorona (shown in your video at 13:36) and looking across at Mount Żarek, saw three bright crosses in the rays of the setting sun. This apparition made a great impression on the spouses, both devout Catholics, and Mikołaj Zebrzydowski decided to erect a church in the place where the three crosses appeared. And here we come to the mentioned Dutch trace in the history of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. The Sanctuary was laid out according to the map brought in 1599 from Jerusalem by the royal courtier Hieronim Strzała. This map was prepared by the Dutch priest and theological writer from Delft Christian Kruik van Adrichem (1533 - 1585). By a lucky coincidence Mikołaj Zebrzydowski in 1604-05 got a hold of and read the work by Christian Kruik van Adrichem entitled 'Theatrum Terrae Sanctae'. The author included detailed descriptions of Jerusalem illustrated with maps, places of the Passion of the Christ with precisely measured distances between individual "stations" and many other details, encouraging to build a similar 'calvary' or 'Golgotha' (i.e. the place where the Passion originally took place) in other locations. Mikołaj Zebrzydowski got excited about the idea, seeing in his imagination the landscape of the Polish Jerusalem, where Mount Żarek was to become the equivalent of Golgotha, Mount Lanckorona - the equivalent of the Mount of Olives, and the Skawinka River (where Most Anielski -> The Angelic Bridge was eventually built) - the equivalent of the Polish Cedron. In order to implement this grand vision in practice, Zebrzydowski employed two talented architects: an Italian architect from Cagno (Northern Italy) Giovanni Maria Bernardoni (1541 - 1605) and a Flemish architect and goldsmith from Antwerp Paulus Baudaert (or Baudarth, 1580 - 1617). Owing to the latter, many structures and elements of the interior architecture were implemented in the style of the Dutch mannerism ('manieryzm niderlandzki'). So there we have it, the daring Polish vision and fantasy working together with the Dutch/Flemish/Italian creativity brought about a stunning result, one of the most wonderful religious sanctuaries in the world, where Heaven truly touches the Earth ... Kudos and many thanks to Romek and his wife for taking you there. Uściski Ninko. 🍀🥰🤗 P.S. My dad had a similar 'Warszawa' car back in the sixties, I was a primary school kid at that time (maybe 7 - 8 years old), but I still remember it. There are not many of them left nowadays, the one you showed at 16:37 is beautifully preserved - a true collector's item.

I've been living in the netherlands for a year now. In a month I will be returning to Poland. Netherlands is a great country but I do miss the rawness of nature. In Netherlands everything is very tame. I cycle for hours and still in the distance can see a highway, it's difficult to escape urbanization here.

I am visiting Krakow on the 21/8 for 4 nights, so have been using KZbin for ideas of where to visit. Then l came across your tubes. You are a wonderful emotional machine, flitting though more emotions in an hour than l experience in a year, perhaps that is why you are an artist and l was an accountant. Good luck on your voyage of discovery and for showing us your interaction with the beauty that surrounds you, while most of us count the churches and castles, you feel and react to them.

OMG, so “Vogelverschrikker” just means “scare crow”?? You are right, it’s a hell of a word to have to say, in Polish it’s “strach na wróuble” which isn’t easy either, but it’s clearly 3 different words, in English it 2 words. When you put the all together it’s overwhelming.
