Previously I did a video review of the 10 Yard Zeroing Target from Jerking The Trigger. This target is an idea of Frank Proctor's, from Way of the Gun, allowing you to zero your rifle, M-4 or AR-15, for a 50/200 yard zero, when those respective ranges aren't available.
I got a number of questions involving said target. So, here is a walk through, from 10 yards back to 200 yards. All of this is done with my rifle using Magpul MBUS sights, Faxon 16" pencil mid-length barrel and 62grain Wolf Polyformance Ammo.
You can print out the targets here: jerkingthetrigg...
See Frank Proctor explain it here: • What Zero do you use? ...
And see the original review I did here: kitbadger.com/...

Hey Kit, first time viewer of your channel here. I've seen quite a few gun-related KZbin vids and you are by far the most chill KZbinr given the subject matter, which is surprising for a Marine. Thanks for that. Great informative, succinct, and well articulated video. I'm now a subscriber.

Used the method over the weekend to sight in an Aimpoint T-2 and my Magpul backup iron sights. The range I went to only has target placement at 7, 15, 25, and 50 yards. I used the 7 yard line to start. I took my time and slowly squeezed off my shots. I was on target in 6 rounds for both the Aimpoint and the irons. I then switched to 50 yards. I had my Aimpoint dead on at 50 in another 6 rounds. Couldn't believe how well the method worked. I've spent so many range sessions just trying to find paper. I spent more time tweaking the irons, but I think my eyes are getting old. Thanks again, can't wait to pass on this tip.

Great to hear! I know how frustrating it can be to go get a "quick zero" only to burn through hours and boxes of ammo chasing rounds...

I would think this is reasonable accuracy for iron sights. Back in my Army days we qualified out to 300 meters in basic training and all that's required is hitting the electronic Ivan targets... It didn't matter if you bounced a round into the target, if it fell you got credit for the hit.

if anyone wants to check if the 1.9 inches is correct for your gun and sight. download the app strelok and punch in all the information and itll tell you the exact measurements so you know if this printout works for you or if you need to change and adjust it a bit. for the sight over bore just take a ruler and measure from the middle of your sight to the middle of your barrel and use that number in the app info. or if you have an a2 front post iron sight and you are using a absolute cowitness mount then just measure from the middle of the barrel to the top of the middle post on the sight and thatll give you the correct inches to plug in but if you have that then you most likely will be able to use the paper print out for 1.9 inches but the exact is like 1.93

6:30 Let me help you out. Adding is putting numbers together, for example, if you kill three terrorists, and your friend kills two, then there are five dead terrorists. Subtraction, or Take Away, is when you take away one number from another. For example, if you have a flat of beer, and your friend shows up, you will have no beer left.

I’ve done something similar but in reverse. After getting zero’d at 50, 100, whatever at the time, I’ve then shot a group at 10 yards and kept that target in my rifle case. If you have to check your zero at limited range shoot a group at 10 yards and compare it to the target in your case. Although not perfect, you should be able to see if something is off. Great video Ivan. Thank you.

This worked for irons, so I can see it working with a red dot at absolute cowitness. Im guessing the 1.9" changes a little at lower one-third cowitness because the height over bore is greater. Is that correct? What is your experience? Do you personally use absolute or lower one-third? Appreciate your and your channel! I enjoy watching and learning.

@@KitBadger I'm always on paper at 50 with this method doing a boresight 1.9 inch 10 yard. For my home defense AR's I sometime don't even verify 50 yards anymore. I just go to the indoor range and verify the 1.9 inch 10 yard grouping. When I finally manage to hit the outdoor range I'm always amazed that I'm on paper at 50 and 100 easily. Usually just needs a few rounds to dial in an exact 50 yard zero.

You should have been aiming with the top of front sight post on the top edge of the white paper. Marines didn't teach you much. You should know that at 200 yards, the bullet has already past it's apex and the rounds will impact lower at 200 yards. So you have to bring your point of aim up higher. Jarines, I tell ya, SMH...
@KitBadger
@KitBadger 6 жыл бұрын
Do you even iron sight bro?! :) My front sight post was too big and would completely obstruct the piece of paper at 200 yards, hence holding on the bottom edge. And I was confirming the 50/200 yard zero. The round arcs, passing the point of aim/point of impact at 50 yards, goes up to reach its apex, then drops down through the point of aim/point of impact at 200 yards... Thanks for watching man! :)

If you don’t have printer just get an 8x10 piece of paper, black sharpie, and a quarter. Use your imagination. BTW, I actually recommend measuring center to center of the sight and bore. That will be your dots on paper separation. Cheerio!
@KitBadger
@KitBadger 5 жыл бұрын
Or just your sharpie on your cardboard backer. :) The height over bore isn't what this drill hinges on. It is about the trajectory of the round at 10 yards and where it corresponds at the 50/200. While sight height comes into it, it is negligible.

How do you feel about 36y/33m zero? Do you feel that 50y is better? And why?
@KitBadger
@KitBadger 6 жыл бұрын
In the service I used that zero and it made sense. Reason being, we used adjustable rear sights on our M-16A2 which allowed us to crank elevation for different distances. On a more applicable level, I think the 50yard Zero just has more utility at the distances I shoot my rifle. Especially since I am not cranking elevation on it.

My opinion is that if you had a reasonable size target at 50/200 yards it seems it would have been easier to get better accuracy when you can see center of target. I shoot often and to see that size dot at 200 with iron sights would be difficult for anyone. I will try this on my next trip to the range. As always I enjoy your educational videos. Isnt the point of the 10yard zero, that you are shooting the height of your barrel to the centre of your scope, or sights? So if you had a scope on. And then take that off and have as you have here the open sights, the point of aim will be different. Two suggestions. Cover the black dot with a red sticker to help you see it against the front sight post. 2nd Measure the height from you sights to barrel and see if that is the correct height at 10, to then make the 50 correct. Last ask yourself why you are wearing gloves

(2" at 50, 4" at 100, 8" at 200). I always use 4 MOA targets at those corresponding distances, that way as long as all my shots are in the black then I'm good. Wish you chose a brass cased ammo. I think we would have seen much better results. Tighter, more consistent groups and I think the 50 and 200 yard shots you took after you made your 10yd zero would have matched up more accurately where they were supposed to hit.

Went to the range and shot this just for fun! Only difference was I did not use a large black dot as my aiming point! Made my own target and used a small dot about 1/8" which made me bear down and focus better and my hits were very tight, could just distinguish the three hits looked more like a single bullet hole! My hits were very acceptable at 50 and for me at 200 they were well within the hit/kill zone!!!!

Haha, you caught me at my computer. Second response came a little slower... The answer to your second question is, Yes / Maybe. There is a huge disparity in optic mounts.
