Revisiting the TIMMY M9 Smartphone - One of the first odd brand name products I ever reviewed!

Greetings and welcome to another Cheapo Phone Review or is this Attack of the Clones?
Well it's actually a remake more than anything but I'll stick with both like I did on the TORQUE Phone.
In 2017, SMOOREZ when not called SMOOREZ bought a phone from eBay and reviewed it on his KZbin channel that had about 200 subs.
In 2024 at just over 105K Subs, SMOOREZ now brings back one of the first phones he ever reviewed and shows it to his modern audience!
Back in 2017 it would've been a cool budget phone but now in 2024 it's severely outdated.
It was the first funny name brand on the channel which was something.
If you watched the OG video...I apologize for the cringe but here's this video to make up for it.
I've remade a few videos that I did in the "Old & Crap" days so I may do some more later down the track as most of the "RetrOh Phone Archive" has been deleted so might be time to dig those out and take another look at them.
Timmy is mentioned several times in this so feel free to do a drinking game if you want.

The QR Code reads '20141103'. Judging by the '2014', it probably is the manufacturing date of the battery or the phone itself. Kinda weird how they went to the effort of creating a QR Code just for the date instead of actually printing the date itself. Oh, and the retail price for the Timmy M9 was, supposedly, 130 american bucks.

I have an M7 one of these. Its identical inside with that horrible sim slot but the swivly camera has a bigger speaker grill and is only 5mp. Its also got malware baked into the rom (the SMS and dialer apps are trying to connect to servers in China and have ALL the permissions, Avast flagged up this unpleasantness very quickly. Apart from M7 it has no branding anywhere, which is odd. Its running the same android 4.4.2 as the M9 but cant be rooted with any tools I could find (probably to stop the removal of said malware).

It still looks really good today! But it’s hella laggy, and the battery life is terrible now lol. I have one! But the camera mechanism has held up well on mine, at least.

I actually had a similar phone back in the day, except it ran on an MT6572 with just 512MB of RAM. It's called the X-BO V5 but it was also sold under various (counterfeit) brands like Oppo and Sony. I made a short video of it on my channel.

I would say the sound quality has improved a lot.

Back then I filmed with an S7 Edge with the LED flash on. Now I have a couple of studio lights and film with a Panasonic FZ10002 with a mic attached to it. So yeah definitely changed a lot and I also like the videos being a bit darker for a more chill atmosphere rather than all bright and stuff.

If you want a good review. get the Samsung Intercept phone. SPH-M910 model one. it was mostly sold thou Virgon mobile and sprint. it was the phone that was heavy promo in the US was the killer top of the line phone but it was DOA when you got it. it needed more then a prayer.

The Vodafone Smart Turbo 4 has a Snapdragon 400 in it which supports 4G whereas this is a low end dual core Mediatek.

My prior comment got nuked by the automod and I don't feel like retyping it. The short version: Google made a movie editor for Android 3 called "Movie Studio". It survived in stock Android until Android 4.3. 4.4 Kit-Kat phones weren't supposed to have it. My Moto E1 didn't have it. That said; I could see some manufacturers who maybe weren't quite so tightly enmeshed with Google including the Jellybean version because why not? Or, perhaps, MediaTek made their own video editing software to replace Google's, which they offered as part of their own app suite to companies that use their chips? Everything I owned back then that ran Kit-Kat had a Snapdragon SoC, so I don't know.
