What’s the secret to increasing our love for the Lord? In this talk from Revive ’15, Bible teacher Jen Wilkin shares that the key to feeling more deeply about God is to think more deeply about Him-and we do that through an intimate growing knowledge of Him through His Word. Find out why it’s so important to ask the women you teach to be active in the way they approach the Scriptures and learn practical ways to do that more effectively.

Sometimes I don't feel like I am maintaining what I read but then when i need to grab a Scripture the Holy Spirit says here you go. I love the Lord.

Not just for Bible teachers, but for every Christian. All Christians, young or old, must learn the absolute necessity of fellowship with Jesus every day. And how do we do that ? By reading the Bible, God's Word Many Christians backslide because this truth is not clearly taught. Some are unable to stand against temptation or their old nature. And all because they didn't know and understood how to read the Bible to get to know God better. Jesus said, " Let me teach you, ... and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:25-30 So we should all let the Lord teach us just how gentle and humble He is. But we have to learn and live this first and then we are going to be able to pass it on to others.

In this wonderful teaching, I hear the significance of knowing and loving God with our mind, as well as the value of a "thinking faith," but how do I practically teach someone HOW TO think? Thanks!

I don’t understand why people take time out of their day to put negative comments on a video of a person that is obviously pursuing God and having a relationship with Him? Especially those that are claiming the title of “Christian”? If you believe that God is pleased with one brother/sister bashing another on a public forum in the presence of those that do not know God and need salvation, you need to seek the Lord with the issues of your heart. Jen Wilkins is doing more than you are in pursuing what she honestly believes pleases God while you are “keyboard warrior-ing” slandering her for the whole world to see. Who is REALLY in the wrong here?

Im pretty sure the number one answer former Christians give for becoming atheists is “reading the Bible”.

Well...you could say that there is 12 Commandments. God gave Moses 10 Commandments and Jesus taught the 2 great foundational commandments. So...maybe that is what the airplane guy had learned. ;) Exodus 20:1-17 10 Commandments Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV) 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Her point is that biblical illiteracy is on the rise. Polls done by the Barna Group have been showing that to be the case for years. The two commands that Jesus gave are summary statements of the original 10. So, if you want to get technical, there are only two commandments. Let's not miss the forest for the trees.

Jen, how is it that you are getting away with taking 2 Tim. 2 and applying it to women teaching women when the CONTEXT is CLEAR that the apostle Paul is speaking to Timothy who is an elder at church in Ephesus? And that that the CONTEXT of "entrusting to faithful men" is referring to other elders in the making? I'm simply being a thoughtful and feeling student of God's truth. You may need to go elsewhere in Scripture to support what you are teaching (women teaching women). It seems you are pulling Scripture out of context. The verses in 2 Timothy have nothing to do with women teaching women. Please make sure you are practicing what you are teaching.

Read Titus 2. Older women are commanded to teach younger women. 2 Timothy 2 is written to all believers in the church, men and women. Jesus commanded all believers to love the Lord with our minds. Women should be training each other.

@@ruthrhinier9595 I am well aware of Titus 2. Did you read my comment?? I stand by it. Paul’s instructions in those verses were as I stated. It’s clear. My point EXACTLY was that a passage like Titus 2 would be the better text to support her message of women teaching women. And it’s interesting to note the emphasis in that text is more practical in nature, more relational in nature. This kind of “teaching” I have obtained from older women came mainly in the form of observing them interact with their own husbands and children, not when they were standing behind a podium. 🤔

@@lizinaz2480 I did read your comment. Are you saying that because she is standing in front of a group behind a podium that what she is doing is not scriptural? She is teaching to fellow women about the Bible and how important studying God's Word is. She is encouraging us as women to use our minds to study the Scriptures in order to know more about our God. We women need to help each other to understand more about God and His word. That is her message. 2 Timothy 2 is telling everyone in the church to know how to study the Bible.

@@ruthrhinier9595 What is one of the first things to do when studying any book of the Bible? You ask the question: "To whom was this book written." With regard to 2 Timothy, we get that answer in the first two verses. This was a letter written by the apostle Paul to Timothy, an elder/pastor/elder at the church in Ephesus. Can all members of the body of Christ learn from every book in the Bible? Most assuredly. But I do hope you are not saying that 2 Timothy was written by Paul to the entire church. It wasn't. It was written by Paul to Timothy. So every single statement Paul makes to Timothy does NOT necessarily apply to you and me and every other man or woman in the body of Christ. We must also ask when studying any book of the Bible: "What is the author's intent in writing to a person or persons." It matters NOT what I think the text means. What matters is what was the author's intent in writing to his particular audience. So when I read and study 2 Timothy, I learn from it what I am to look for in pastors/teachers/elders, since that is what Paul's intent was in writing to Timothy, who was a pastor/teacher/elder. Paul was writing to Timothy to exhort and encourage him as his "son" in the Lord and in his role as pastor/teacher/elder. To say that the verses in 2 Timothy 2 apply directly to me or you or any other man or woman is about as unintelligent and nonsensical as saying Titus 2 (specifically the verses addressed to older women) applies to all males in the church. That's just bad grammatical analysis and pretty bad deconstruction of the text. It would be a wrong understanding of the text in Titus 2 to say that, in the same way it would be wrong for me to say that Paul was writing to me personally in 2 Timothy. He wasn't. He was writing personally to Timothy. I have no problem with Jen standing behind a podium teaching and exhorting women to be students of Scripture, but I do have a problem with her or anyone else using/applying Scripture inaccurately to support teaching points. It's bad exegesis and just plain wrong. You certainly don't think Jen is above making a mistake, do you? Beware. Beware of putting anyone on a pedestal, man or woman. There is no Christian who is breathing who goes a single day without sinning. And anyone who sets himself or herself out before others as a teacher is to be held to higher account. That is biblical. And no one should ever be fearful to question anyone in a teaching position if what they are teaching is not accurate or misapplied.

@@lizinaz2480, as Paul says in 2 Timothy 3:16, all Scripture is Go'd breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. That means that the letters that Paul wrote in the New Testament are for all believers today because it is the inspired Word of God. What Jesus said in the Gospels may have been spoken to His disciples and people in Judea, but what He said applies to us today if we call ourselves Christians. He told his followers to teach others everything that He commanded. That includes all of God's Word. Good exegesis is using the context of when the text was written and to whom to determine the correct meaning. Then, we can make the proper application. I am not sure what you are criticizing this speaker for or what it is based on? Second Timothy 2:!5 is an exhortation for believers to learn how to properly handle the Scriptures. That is what you are saying we should do, but you are also saying that we can't apply Paul's letters to ourselves. Which is it? Yes, we can be good Bereans by checking what teachers are saying to us to see if their words align with Scripture. The speaker encourages us to study the Word for ourselves. She is not speaking anything that goes against the Word of God. She is encouraging women to study more, to use our minds, and to help each other to understand the Bible. We need more teachers like her.
