You are most welcome. Glad this has helped you. Yes I do use fertiliser, but only after the feed in my potting mix has been used up - usually after about 5 months. Mango’s are hungry plants / trees, so they do need regular feeding to ensure good growth and a reliable crop. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🫶

Hi there, thanks for the video tutorial. Isn't it late to plant bulb lasagna in November? Another question is - what is the lowest temperature that allows to keep the pot outside? At what temperature should I take the pot to the shelter? Thanks in advance
@easy.gardeningАй бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching. Tulip bulbs can be planted as late as December, so you should be ok. However, it may be too late to plant other bulbs at this time of the year to create a bulb lasagna. Though it’s worth checking the packaging of your bulbs for recommended planting times. Spring bulbs can survive freezing temperatures so you won’t need to shelter your pot. The most important thing is to have good drainage, as I’ve shown in this video, to prevent the bulbs from rotting. Hope this helps.

Great video and explanation. I am in Canada where we get cold temperatures snow and ice-can the pot be left outside or should it be in the garage till early spring?
@easy.gardening2 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yes your pot can be left outside, as long as it has good drainage like I’ve shown in this video. Elevating the pot slightly off the ground will also help with this. Spring bulbs require the cold temperatures to kick start the germination process. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍

How big are your pots? Should the bulbs still be planted at 3x their height? If so, how much space below the bulb do you need to allow for strong roots?
@easy.gardening2 ай бұрын
The pots in this video are approximately 10cm tall. I would recommend planting bulbs at least twice their depth. If you’re creating a pot display, as opposed to replanting them in a border once germinated, then I would recommend using bigger pots allowing enough room for the plant to develop a good root system and have good nutrient levels during it’s growing season. Hope this helps 🫶

I have never tried this method. I guess I have been too sceptic of the risk that the bulb will reorient itself with hole facing upwards after a few seasons. A planted a bunch of these under balcony. Considering that it gets minimal water in the cold season (and only by irrigation Summer), I did nothing special. And they bloomed for the second time this last Spring. Another method that I have relied on in areas that do get wet in cold season is to dig a wide and deep hole and fill it up with gravel in soil in such a way that the water will drain on the sides and collect underneath the bulb. So: a well of gravel at the bottom layer, maybe down to 45cm at the deepest, then place the bulb at 25cm depth (i place it hole up), then fill up a pyramid of soil on top of the bulb and fill up with gravel around this pyramid and this gravel should connect downwards to the bottom gravel layer under the bulb. This way the water will run off the denser pyramid shaped soil, drain through the gravel on the sides and collect under the bulb. I did roughly this the first time I planted such a fritillary imperial and it has bloomed 4 years in a row, allthough admittedly one year it had few maybe just two of the red bell shaped flowers.

I really like your idea of having good drainage. This is key in almost all bulb planting. Where there is excess water almost certainly kills the bulbs, or at best, shortens its life. Thanks for watching and welcome to my channel 🫶
@steinh042 ай бұрын
@@easy.gardening I work a lot on drainage. I have easy access to leftover gravel on streets after each winter (roads are salted and graveled during frosty months). I probably overdo it somewhat. Now, I have come to realize myself and I have seen others point this out that if there is more gravel in the soil in the few inches afound the fritillaria bulb but less gravel further, one could risk that the water falling down in the surroundings area will fill up in the gravel rich soil nearest to the bulb.. so one needs to think of the slopes and curves of the soil surface and avoid creating a sink for the nearby area. So, while gravel (and sand too) is nice to get the soil over the bulb drier and let the water drain down underneath, that same gravel could cause more water to enter from the surroundings... unless the surroundings too have even more gravel mixed into the soil,.. or there is a mound above the bulb that stops the surrounding water. Tricky budiness all of this..
@steinh042 ай бұрын
I know some garden experts, especially those leaning towards regenerative agriculture and permaculture would think that applying garvel is unnecessary.. that for aeration the soil microbiology and worms will take of it. Except sometimes, owing to more persistent landscape features some areas are too swampy, in which case one should work not against nature but with it and use the wet area for what it is and plant plants that tolerate it.
@easy.gardening2 ай бұрын
This is true and well said. Gardening organically as possible will cause no harm. However, it’s also important to create the right conditions for the plant in order for it grow and thrive. Most plants will not grow in compacted soil, hence why we add gravel to create those conditions.

Hello! Thank you for the tips. I'm having the hardest time to get the Foxgloves to even germinate. I do not own a plastic dome, so I have to manually mist them. I'm giving them lots of sunlight both outdoors and on my windowsill, perhaps too much. It's been very very dry lately, and temperatures are well above 30. Could the climate be the biggest culprit?
@easy.gardening3 ай бұрын
Hi, foxglove seeds can take up to six weeks to germinate - and even longer if they have been sown in autumn or winter. I would recommend sowing your seeds in pots and leaving your pots outside in your garden. They will remain dormant until the conditions are suitable for them to germinate. Keep your pots out of direct sunlight and don’t sow too many in one pot - this will create competition and you’ll end up with small, weak plants. Don’t over water them too - this will cause the seeds to rot. If left outside, the rain will take care of the watering for you. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍
