Thats a great job. Looks like new. I have a 2004 Murray that my mother in law gave me. In 2019 the engine started blowing oil out all over. I was going to rebuild the engine, however the cost was going to be around $300. I found a 2004 Craftsman GT 5000 . It was in bad shape. The owner told me the engine would run, but smoked. So i took it home and swapped the Kohler V twin 25 horsepower for the 12.5 Briggs. The biggest problem I had was the drive pulley for the blades . The Briggs was 1 inch the Kohler was 1 1/8 inch. What I did was take the electric clutch apart and used the lower piece as an adapter I had the 3 pieces welded together and it works great. The only electrical was the starter. The Briggs uses a solenoid from the battery then another cable from the solenoid to the starter. The Kohler has a battery cable to the starter,and a small wire to the solenoid on the starter. I used the Briggs solenoid, and a heavy cable to the starter and a small wire to the solenoid. It works great. The only problem is, if something stops a blade the engine doesn't bog down, it tears things up. The Craftsman was a 48 inch cut, the Murray is a 40 inch cut .

previous owner clearly didn't maintain their mower. don't know how you could let that deck have so much dirt build up under the spindles. not surprising their engine blew with that few running hours I wonder if they ever changed the oil or filters either.
@freedommowers4208 ай бұрын
Wait… so you’re telling me that you have to do maintenance 🤷. Haha. Yes lack of care is the downfall with most of these machines. Even just oil changes and keeping the decks clean goes a long way.
@debbieelliott36518 ай бұрын
If you're not going to use the mower back and you're not going to repaint the bottom of the mower deck with Rust-Oleum paint. Using oil will work as far as stopping it from rusting. But if you're going to sell it or use it using motor oil will be a bad idea. It's a little bit more work but it is well worth the time if you take off the blades get a sanding wheel or a wire wheel and knock off all the big rust and then spray it with Rust-Oleum paint. That is the best thing to do. And the more honest thing to do. If you're going to be selling the mower or using it yourself. The bottom of a mowing deck is a lot different than the bottom of a car or truck. If you want to stop something from rusting. Please do not be lazy like the majority. And do it the right way with Rust-Oleum paint.. that's all I have for now. You and yours have a great day.😊😊😊
@freedommowers4208 ай бұрын
Thank you for the input. I try my best to turn these machines around and get them serviced properly. I’ll have to start painting under the decks. Unfortunately in my area we have a lot of sandy soil so the paint doesn’t last long at all.
@bertgrau39348 ай бұрын
@@freedommowers420 I have done that, even when just cutting grass, it will take the paint off. I paint in the fall, so it won't rust during the winter months. But I doubt painting will last. If you disassemble and have the deck powder coated, that might last a long time. Kind of expensive though.

You probably already know this. And do not let the naysayers steer you in the wrong direction. There is no difference between that 17 horse engine and the 19 horse engine. The Piston size is exactly the same everything is exactly the same. The only difference is the stickers. that's why everything is so interchangeable. I've been doing this for a little over 30 years. I am one of the few people. Very few people that tell the truth about riding mowers and push mower engines. I've worked for little companies I have work for big companies. 98% of them are all scammers. In today's world lion makes more money than telling the truth. That is sad but true. And if the other so-called blown up engine spins over and you do not hear a lot of clanging and banging going on. What may have happened is. The bolts might have come off the Piston rod. And the crank could have through the rod and the Piston all the way forward. It may be an easy fix. If you're willing to tear the engine down and give it a shot. I've seen it before. With small engines like that. That had a lot of hours on them. Not to mention a new crank rod and piston is very cheap. If needed. Really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work young man. And please do not let the naysayers steer you in the wrong direction. That's all I have for now. You yours try to have a great day.😊😊😊
@MowersNBlowers8 ай бұрын
That’s not exactly accurate! While the differences are slight, there is minuscule spec differences in bore size between a 17 and a 19, differences in a 19 and 21. On 15.5HP ones, the heads are slightly different from a 18.5. They are not all exactly the same, but they’d run with interchangeable parts, just probably not as efficient as designed. They’re about the same, but not EXACTLY the same!
