I love that you do this and I am not hating in anyway and I don’t mean any offense by this but I work as a technician for a John Deere dealership and these mowers are not great they are just as good as the craftsman and others you see in big box stores if you want to get real John Deere quality you need to get the X 300 series because these are actually John Deere not an off brand Chinese mowers and if you buy a new one at least get one with the v-twin. Thank you for reading but if you ever have any questions on fixing anything just let me know I do this professionally and plan on moving to bigger tractors like 3033r and up

Great videos. I had a Snapper rear engine Forest Gump type mower that I got free at the curb around 1990. It had a 10 horse Briggs and a 30 inch cut. Wore out two engines, went to a 12 horse Briggs from another free junk mower, then to a 14.5 OHV Briggs from a junk mower i bought for $20 at a garge sale. Loved this mower and replace every bushing, belt and clutch disk several times over the years. These were so well built they could last forever if you work on them. Finally in 2021, I had to let her go. I bought a cheap Cub Cadet which still runs to this day. The old Snapper went to the curb where it came from. I subscribed, and will watch what you do. Thanks!

Cosmetics are key, in our society today, even in used lawnmowers. I like to make them look really good as well as mechanical reliability. Something to pass along. On the decks, I use a product called Corroseal Water-Based Rust Converter . It chemically diffuses the progression of rust. Best product i have found. No harsh smell, easy cleanup and you can paint over it. Just use a chip brush and then clean brush and container with water and you can reuse :) Thanks again for sharing. I know this is too late but here goes. I have found that JD doesn't grease their machines before they sell them. Also, on the spindles ifyou break them down you will find sealed bearings under a grease fitting. Doesn't do any good to grease them because the grease can't get to the bearing. Sometimes you can take the seal off and the bearing will recover but most times not. Same with the swivel wheels on the front of some mowers. There is a fried bearing on that deck. Way to much noise. Rebuild the offending spindle on the deck. Usually if you try to remove the spindle those stupid self tapping bolts will break off and you'll have to replace the whole spindle.
@bertgrau3934Ай бұрын
I had a spindle that the bolts broke, I drilled them out and used through bolts and lock nuts. Saved a rebuildable spindle for pennies compared to a new spindle.
@eric_seguinАй бұрын
@@bertgrau3934 The amount of time you spend drilling out those bolts compared to the cost of a cheap spindle makes repairing the spindle on the belly mower a lot cheaper. Removing the inside cover on the sealed bearing so grease can get to the roller sometimes works. I have also resorted to using lithium grease because of amateurs going crazy with pressure washers blowing water into the spindles. A cure for this is blowing grass off of the belly immediately after use. This also gets weed seeds off before going to the next job. Most don't even think of seed contamination. Call me OCD if you want but my job was to help the customer, not take garbage into his yard.
@bertgrau3934Ай бұрын
@@eric_seguin Sir, you are correct on many points. However, drilling out broken bolts can save time waiting on cheap spindles to show up. Just a matter of opinion. I appreciate your opinion. For you it doesn't make sense to drill, to me it does. You are correct though, for most people/shops it's probably not the best option. Have a great day sir. Thank you for your response. I do agree on blowing the grass cuttings off the deck rather than pressure washing.
