I had one of these as a kid and loved it big time. After about 2 years, someone stole it from my yard when i was at work after i had just dumped $400 in new parts and dealer repairs into it. Thankfully my Dad got me a new Yamaha Warrior 350 soon after that went missing, I'm pretty sure we had homeowners that covered that robbery as our home was robbed too.

I’d really like to find a 225dx project like this - sellers are asking premium prices for trikes that are so far gone that may not even qualify as a parts bike

I would get rid of the HONDA AND KEEP THE YAHAMA 225 DX. I have a 225 DX just like the one you have. I have it 36 yes. Nothing has been replaced except the Oils. Great machine. Ride it every chance I get in the hills of WestVirginia. KEEP IT.

Tough question... but I’m a Honda guy at heart. That said, I think these Yamaha DX/DRs are underrated machines. They are a ton of fun on the trails!

Can I ask you what you paid for it? I'm about to pick one up for 50 bucks that's been sitting out in a field for some time. I figured for $50, who cares what's wrong with it I will take a stab at it and if it is too far gone they can sit out in my field LOL

@willbates8464 Hey,yes I went and picked it up. It was very rough,beyond repair in my opinion. It was missing a lot and what was left over was very rough. With all that said I listed it on craigslist for $300 and a guy came right away and took it for parts for his.
