I'm a big fan of team Saeco Cannondale's. Team Saeco always rode with Campagnolo Record components. The great Mario Cipollini rode for them. I've never seen anyone at any bike shop, take apart Shimano STI levers before. I'm sure that I could take some apart but wouldn't be able to put them back together again. I hope to learn how to do this. All my bikes are built, not bought. As I much prefer to build the fames up myself with nice used parts. Thank you.

Hey Chris, thanks a lot! I hope it was useful, or atleast entertaining to watch! STI shifters are not that bad to repair as they look though. RJ the bike guy has some great tutorials on the topic!

Now this is my kind of stuff! I actually have Shimano 105 SC components and they are seriously so solid, just the shifters have that gunking issue. I love seeing old bikes get rescued and get a new lease on life! Also glad you kept the triple crankset.
@kelemenrichard

Thank you very much! Well, the triple is maybe a bit overkill for the terrian it will be used for, but you never know :) 105SC is one of the best stuff out there thats for sure. My other big favourite is the 600 Tricolor. Man I just love the look of 90s groupsets! :)

Impressive work on the STI repair! Very cool! Seems tricky to disassemble and reassemble that one. Would love to get my hands on one of those 105s. Subbed! EDIT: That trick with the hex key to hold the rim tape in place was genious! 👍

Thank you so much! 🤟 That particular one was pretty annoying to repair, the left shifter just wouldn't want to work. I ended up swaping the whole mechanism with an RSX triple i had laying around, but noone will ever tell, as lonmg as they don't look at the slight color difference on the dust covers under the hood. 🤫 Other than that they are usually a pretty easy fix i promise!🤥

I would recomend road between, lets say, city of Lajkovac, through Valjevo, next to a water reservoir called Brana Rovni, and then uphill all the way across mountains Jablanik and Povlen, to a place called Bajina Bašta, on the river Drina, next to a Perućac hydro power plant.

@@kelemenrichard Lenght is about 100km. From Belgrade airport to Lajkovac its just 30 mins of highway drive. You can use taxi van. And then best wishes. From Brana Rovni is going to be nasty, very steep climb. I recommend some grave bike or something like that, just because of the road condition and gearing.

Thank you, I did not know that system of the old tyres. Ans I always liked the RX100 parts more than 105 because of the polished surfaces.

You kinda look like a Decathlon's stuff addicted. Where are you from? I love to work on groupset parts too. I've Just repaired a Campagnolo 10 Speed right ergopower. After upshifting the last cog (28) was still working and rear derailleur got stucked. Fixed and owner was so happy he ain't gonna buy a new one. He will ride for tons of miles more. I love to fix and upgrade common issues too. Keep It up.

Thank you very much! Yeah thats the joy of these kinds of repairs. My dude is very happy with this bike too 🤟 I'm from Hungary, and as for the Decathlon fanatism, I had some giftcards I had to use up. 😅 They make some good stuff though, like there is this really cool "chainwhip" tool im using in my latest video, i also like some of their clothes. I'm not sponsored by them though! 😀

@bicyclist2
@bicyclist2 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you on the bar tape. Another thing is that he started at the top. This is technically incorrect. Every bike mechanic I've talked to over the years, says to start at the bottom. Even Park Tool and GCN show handlebars wrapped this way too.
@kelemenrichard
@kelemenrichard Жыл бұрын
@@bicyclist2 Yeah, that was on purpose though. I really, really, really hate finishing tape (or electrical tape for that matter) this way it's more elegant, and if you use thinner bar tapes, there is no issue riding them it at all. Atleast I haven't had any issues with mine, I have a Roto synthetic leather tape, which has atleast 10000 km of heavy riding in it. And it's white, still is🥳 Did I ever tell you how much I hate finishing tape? 😅
@johns3106
@johns3106 Жыл бұрын
@@bicyclist2 There really is no “right” way to wrap bars…everyone has their preference for ease of wrapping and looks. Years ago, when cloth tape was the norm, most bars were wrapped from the top down, finishing the wrap by inserting the end of the tape into the end of the bars and plugging. After thicker tape became the norm, wrapping from the bottom up became the “only” way to do it. Frankly, I’m always surprised at how dogmatic people are about HANDLEBAR TAPE!!

Well done. I wonder though, with the bike that far apart, why you chose not to address the headset, bottom bracket, freehub, and wheel hubs. After sitting idle for a long time, all those bearings probably need to be cleaned, regreased, and adjusted. Seems like a missed opportunity.
@kelemenrichard
@kelemenrichard Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Well, yes, that's an excellent observation, to be honest. The truth is that I encountered a small issue with the headset, which I had to address off-camera because I ran out of time and battery. :D The freehub and bottom bracket cartridge were in pretty good shape, so I didn't bother touching them.
@rangersmith4652
@rangersmith4652 Жыл бұрын
@@kelemenrichard Freehubs are a pain, and BBs can be as well. Can't blame you for leaving them be if they are running decently free.

I bet that is a great riding bike. I think cannondale figured a few things out by the time they produced this frame. their first frames were so stiff that the bikes were extremely harsh to ride. Swap out a 52 x 39 crankset and this bike would be ready for a CAT 5 race!

Is that carbon stem 25.4? What is it?
@kelemenrichard
@kelemenrichard Жыл бұрын
Nah, it's an alloy Tranz-x stem, with "carbon" paint scheme. The handlebar has a not to common 25.8mm diameter (ITM if I recall it correctly) and I'm just hoping that the stem had that diameter too :D It also has a shim on the steerer side in order to work with the 1" threadless system, so I'm guessing thats not an original part.

@@oreocarlton3343 well, the guy who owned it said, that he had enough punctures, but later he realized too that this was a poor decision.
