Is this your first VF500? If so, you're in for a real treat when you get it sorted out. There's something extremely special about this bike. Honda didn't look to make a profit on this bike in any meaningful way. The V4 was never going to be cheap enough to produce for 500cc money. As a result they built the quintessential gateway drug into motorcycles. Smiles:dollar ratio is higher than any other purchasable commodity in the world I'm aware of.

It's a shame not to clean the passageways and the jets while the carb bank was out.

I bought one of these new for $2300 and loved it. After putting Vance and Hines headers and pipes it sounded great and went like hell.

I'm a bit late to this party but I just got done doing extensive work on a friend's '86 VF 500 and it sure as hell doesn't have a fuel pump. What it has is a vacuum operated petcock with a skinny vacuum hose from petcock to the left rear intake manifold.

I hate to see these so abused , as for the tank there is a way to restore it and a coating for it that O’Reillys Auto Parts sells

I found one of these babies for sale for $800, at 17k miles. Veeeeery nice condition, it’s just been sitting for 5 years. It worth it?
@WeekendHandymen5 жыл бұрын
Not sure. We bought this one just to rob it of the engine.

Search on youtube for "How to reinstall motorcycle v4 carbs the easy way" there is a guy with a really smart trick using some cargostraps i think they are called. You wrap it around your carbs and anchor them to you motorcycle frame in the back and tighten the straps until one side of the carbs pop into the hoses. Then you can press down the other side until they pop in as well. Good luck :-)
