That vented trans pan reminds me of something they'd sell on JC Whitney back in the day. The aluminum pan probably cools better, simply because it's aluminum. Science! 😎

A friend of mine had issues where his 454 would keep destroying starters and flywheels non stop and in his case shimming always made it worse, after like 8 starters he had the local machine shop actually mill down the mounting pad and then it was fine afterwards. The machinist also said he had seen this exact issue before on a certain year of 454 blocks(cant remember thw year and this block happened to be that exact model) and he said it was either due to bad core shift or the starter pad wasnt machined down far enough from factory.

Mine's a '72. Same problem. Broke 3 starters (2 noses). I got a Powermaster. It's better, but not perfect.

Reinzosil is good stuff! Permatex no.3 works nicely with paper gaskets, also way less shitty to remove.

Good to see you're back, mate......and your front too, but hey. I've never heard a starter sound like a brick in a running cement mixer, but the old one in the truck did a pretty good rendition. Sonata for Chevy starter and ring gear in C-mixer, I think it was called. You could have made a mint marketing it as the new Garage House, G-funk or maybe even Depressive Suicidal Death Metal, I reckon. Love the comment about the peeling clear coat. Funny - down here in New Zealand, the ignorant call it "paint fade" - like buffing it up is going to do it some good instead of ripping the remains of the colour off your vehicle, right down to the primer. You like driving around in your Rolling Dumpster making people's heads turn (man, I love that comment - I have a car that I am going to rename as that, now). At least it doesn't make their STOMACHS turn, mate. That would be terrible at intersections....and especially when pulling up next to pedestrian crossings.... As to the fuel gauge - good call. Some mobile phones now have a form of wireless power transfer ability (like you stick them to a magnetic charger and the charge up or something. No idea how that works).... However, the same cannot be said for vehicle wiring. Oh sure, they have Fly-By-Wire acceleration and I've heard of one car without a steering column that sends sensor info from the steering wheel to a unit on the steering rack to turn the wheels, but getting actual POWER across a divide of any distance without causing a direct short and making life very exciting, just hasn't happened yet. Hence why thin strands of copper in a handy insulation of plastic are still required to take it from place to place. However, owning a British classic or three myself and having a 50-year-old loom manufactured by the Prince of Darkness - Lucas - himself, I have developed an advanced diagnostic ability as even when things LOOK connected, it does not follow that they actually ARE, so I do empathise with your plight and am glad it was solved readily. All the best and see you on another 8 months or whatever :)

You should build a little wood or metal platform that straddles the floor plate on the lift with a flat/smooth top. Just tall enough so that you can easily roll your jack around. Could even add ramps on one side to assist with getting lowered cars on and the arms not fitting under.

Nice! Now you can throw that Edelbrock carb in the garbage and get one that you don’t need to crank it for alive minutes to get more fuel into the carb after it all leaks out from sitting overnight, everyone I’ve ever used does the same thing
@DarkFlamage7 ай бұрын
I think hard starting issue points to carb bowl leaking down. Some tuning to fix extended cranking/ high idle, maybe an inside rear view mirror, some cosmetic touches? Looks like you have a nice project base there.

You can find paper gaskets in every cereal box… you can find head gaskets with some alloy foil on the paper.
@victorbitter5837 ай бұрын
I glued 2 bits of cereal box together with wheel arch paint. Let it dry. Cut out a gasket for the waterpump on a 245 Hemi. Hit it again with the tar paint and bolted it up. It never failed while I owned that car. cheers.
