Reviving my E36 LS1 GTR dream build

In the first episode of this build series we pick up the abandoned project and find out what happend.
After years of issues with the LS1 + DCT swapped e36, both gave out and I was forced to start over.

@@denniskos6032 Yes! If I were to do any aftermarket transmission swap again it would be the 8HP. Over the years I've seen about 90% of the DCT swaps convert to 8HP.

I Didn't know this car was yours, I always saw videos of it when I was looking for information about e36 with dct swap, I always had a crazy idea of building an e36 inspired by WTCC, with a K24 high compression, ITB and DCT, a light saloon , What happened that made you change your mind about using DCT? Who has never caused a fire by messing up with an E36 differential? HAHAHAHA Well, I'll be eagerly watching the videos about this car. Very beautiful by the way. Proost Werncke.

Hahaha small world eh! Even smaller when you are looking into DCT swaps (dont do it 🤣). Its hard to put into words with just a few sentences why the DCT didnt work. But I guess the biggest problem was having to use a standalone DCT controller instead of using canbus to control the existing BMW dct controller. But that option wasnt availible at the time. The upshifts were OK... but downshifts were always a problem and kept breaking driveshafts, diffs, mounting points etc. Might make a more indep technical video about the GTR if people want to see that. 😁

@@GRAUSLICK Right, from what I saw you used an ECU for the DCT and an ECU for the engine. You didn't use an ECU to control both, in my research I saw that the maxxecu would be a good option, due to the support and the forums, but I didn't go too deep into the research. If you can talk about this in future videos, it would be good, as there aren't many videos talking about swap issues, just advertisements from companies that sell TCU. Thank you for the feedback.👍👍

Nice video, you wouldn't tell your dutch by the way you speak english. Unfortunate about the framerate but I couldn't even tell that it was a problem. It was actually a nice montage. Quick question, i am planning on buying a E36 this winter and was wondering if the 320i can reach 200hp without forced induction. I know it will be hard but i want to know if its possible and affordable. The 323i, 325i and 328i are fucking expensive nowadays and the small 6 cylinder 320i has a reasonable price for my age to get as a first car. It would really help me if somebody lets me know if its possible for a 320i to reach 200hp without forced induction.

Honestly, I don't think so. It's a NA engine after all. Maybe 170-180 with bolt-ons (exhaust, intake, aircon removal) depending on the Dyno. But then again I'm no expert on the 320i (M50B20?) engine.
