Revolution Race - Pants review

This is a review of a pair of pants I bought in april. Sins then I have used them extensivly, and now its time to show and tell!
Enjoy!
There is one thing needed to be said; the pictures on the website can be a bit missleading for some colors; Rusty orange/petrol blue and maybe some others are not as shown in the pictures. But, it is easy to return it if not satisfied.

The positive aspect on the “front thigh pockets”, as I see it, is for ease of access while engaged in “sitting down” activities (as in fishing or a kayaking, driving, flying). Maps, charts, phone, small camera…..all on top of the lap, versus on the side. Great review, amigo!

They look very similar to Ridgeline 'Ranger' trousers - double stitching all over, neoprene knees and backside but the ridgeline are missing that ventilation zip down each side of the legs which makes them a bit too warm for summer. The Ridgeline trousers do have the pockets on the side and they expand too. There are always strengths and weaknesses with every pair of trousers but those ones you have look great. Thanks for the review - always good to see what is available out there and to have it properly reviewed by someone who has used the item. Just like my Ridgeline trousers yours look brand new even after good use and that's down to the great materials they are made from. Groovy.

Eg kjøpte gpx pro for noen måneder sida pga de så ålreite ut. De var også det, med ett unntak. Eg syns sømmene var i overkant merkbare innvendig. Kunne kanskje blitt vant til det, men valgte å angre. Kan du kjenne deg igjen i det med sømmene, eller er disse buksene annerledes?

Thanks. I ordered another model, but ended up sending it back. I didnt like the design, and the color was not as shown in the pictures. But you cant go wrong with the Norwand Pro if you want some light and robust pants. -Odd

I hope you appreciate that I've just spent 12 minutes staring at a man taking his trousers off, flashing his orange underpants and twirling in front of the camera! I'm so glad to see you back Odd, that I'll even comment on this too! Actually, they do look a whole lot better than my baggy old Craghoppers, apart from those big front cargo pockets. Ha,ha.. Then you will be glad or maybe badly affected when you see my next one, when I`m taking of even more to show some base layers for the comming winter ;) I agree on the pockets, but the models they have with pockets on the sides was not made with the thicker materials on the right places. I think the producer have more focus on hiking characteristics.

The shoes a regular running shoes for terrain. Inov-8 rocklite 282gtx it says on the shoes.

Hello, you are wearing the M size right? How tall are you and how much you weight? Im considering buy a GPX Pro pant or the Norwand Pro like yours but i dont know the fitting. Im 1.75 and wy wieght ranges from 85kg to 88kg, i dont have big legs, im more muscular on upper part of my body. How low in celsius degrees would you say this pants can handle, lets say while hiking and being active but also windy. Do you still like the pants even now? What is your top layer, some merino wool shirt? Thanks!

Would you recommend those pants for alpine hiking in summer (July)? I think it's a bit warmer than norway and I want pants that are a bit more allround than shorts. Nice review I like it.

I did use this during a hike in august, and I was happy that it had ventilation openings. If warmer summers, I might would have choosen another model from the same company, with more stretch material. The stretch material they are using is pretty thin and cooling, yet very strong and durable. GPX PRO is a model I have tried, and it is more suited for warmer hikes. I hope this helps -Odd

Tviler, den er laget i to materialtyper. Strecth delen er nok ikke lett å få vannavvisende. Resten av buksa kan man feks bruke voks type fjellreven-voks på. Har ikke gjort det på denne, men på jakker av samme blandingsmateriale.

Hi, I have a the GPx model. I've had them for about a year now, and love them I find them to hot for summer use though. Do the ventilation zips work at keeping you cool? If so I might invest in another pair as they are very comfy 😊 the Velcro on the ankle is very tough mine show no signs of wear or damage. I was also dubious at first also but am pleasantly surprised by them Kind regards Tony

Good to know tony, thanks for sharing. I bought the GPX Pro model to have as a second pants. For me the pants was a bit tight over some areas, even though they were the same size as this pants in the video. They had ventilation zippers and buttons on the legs, just like the Norwand Pro. The color was not as shown in the pictures though, so I decided to return them. But I`m sure they are good pants. -Odd

I have only tried on the fjallraven Vidda Pro, and those are more heavy type of pants. Stronger, thicker material and in general a real good "bushcraft" type of pants. This from RevolutionRace are made more for hiking and mobility. But this particular model are the one leaning most towards "bushcraft" activities with it`s thicker fabric on important areas.

Thanks for the reply, I'm returning a pair of Fjälleäven as we speak because they're way too long and can not fix them, they are the Gaiters type, but I rather have thicker heavy material as no matter what as you hike you going to encounter sitting, kneeling, and hit branches, just my two cents. Well, Odd, we now know where you keep your orange emergency signaling device -- but every outdoor item should serve multiple purposes! As for the pants, some great features, though as you noted, the front of thigh pockets seem misplaced for any other time than standing up straight.

Are these fully waterproof?

Not at all. When new they repell water a bit cuase the factory add DWR to the fabric. After a wash they are not repelling at all. But, they dry quickly.

The downside to being waterproof is, that they would be much less breathable and therefore in many scenarios to hot to wear.

Cotton on the outer layer?? I got almost One set of ALL RR pants, but they have an place in a system. Cotton... If or when you get wet in the forrest, thats about the total trip. Get wet day 1 and you'll stay wet if you can't find a way to dry out. RR makes awesome cloths but they should be used right. They take a beating as hell but most of the collection is non good for hikes nor forrest trips. As long as they aint in some type of synthetic they will collect water, weight and you'll become cold. Good revue beside the fact of water and cotton.

LudwigsPrecision its 35% cotton rest polyester. I would say its a good mix, for example British military gear are often with similar mixture as are many other armies clothing lines including Finlands. Should dry fast enough, though I dont have personal experience of these pants just yet. I will buy them soon though...

I don't like the front pockets - too restrictive for movement, but you wanted the tougher material, as I would too... I wonder how long that inner mesh pocket will last - I have had several pairs of Columbia trousers with failed mesh pockets - things like Swiss Army knife will grab the mesh and makes holes in it fairly soon :o( Otherwise they look well designed - stretchy double layer is a good idea. "I won't review crap" Haha, well said Odd.

Pocket liners - good idea. I carry my SAK on a lanyard off my belt, and then hanging in my pocket - but yes, a belt pouch is a good way around the crappy pocket thing - I have some leather for this - I just need to get around to it :o) (I know, you can buy them, but more fun to make)

I used to have a victorinox in my pocket before I got the wenger. ther vic did snag. The wenger is better, no snag so far. I might review free stuff, but say no to things that no one need, or are crap in any other way ;)

carroj9: I made an axe sheath (2 in fact) that worked out nicely - if you don't have them already, you will find the right tools make it _much_ easier to get a good result, and I'm a beginner. Field boot repairs would be some challenge ! Good luck...

I think you did a wise choice in type of pants. I recomend to go thru the feedbacks when you order. Most people add info about weight and hight and tell how the size fits.
