Peter Vaughan tries Carthago’s brand-new layout for 2024 with all the comfort of a bigger motorhome in just over 7m long. The Mercedes-based C-tourer I 145 RB LE Superior has a huge garage, spacious lounge, well-equipped kitchen, twin beds and, crucially, a split en suite with opposing shower and toilet areas.

Really wish manufacturers would just sell a product for a price - and dispense with all these option packages. There is no longer a feeling or belief that you can pay the list price and still get a product that gives you everything you reasonably need

I sort of agree. I'm a big fan of the Adria Supersonic and like the fact that it's sold fully specced so you don't have to spend weeks combing the options list, but it's £170k. Unfortunately Carthago are similar to the other German brands in that they work the other way round and sell a "base" van and expect us to put in the hard work speccing it. I'd much rather it was £145k with these options to start with.

At £115,000 I would want it fully loaded. They really are taking the proverbial and putting people owning a motorhome IMHO

Unfortunately these days you're not getting a premium motorhome with all the trimmings for £115k, especially one based on a Merc. I've done a lot of research over the last 18 months and specced up Carthagos are quite reasonably priced when compared to Hymer, Frankia etc.

Love it Peter but can't stop thinking it's 10x the cost of my first house bought in 86 (I was very young) Hint of Deja Vu all the way through then I saw the apology. Cheers K.

I like it but the extras are crazy priced, why can’t the manufacturers sell vehicles as standard not all the expensive options.

It's just the German way of spec'ing 'vans, so you order exactly the kit you want. Ignore the base price, which isn't realistic, and focus on the total cost.

This is my absolute favourite van. I've looked at so many over the last 18 months, but this is as close to my favourite layout as i think I'm going going to find. L shape lounge, oven in a decent place, separate shower and bathroom, a garage big enough to get a couple of bikes in and based on a Merc. And just found out my local dealer have got an almost identically specced one coming in next week!

@@MotorhomeCampervanjust put a deposit down for a new one a dealer already has a build slot for in July, I've been able to change the spec to my requirements which was most of the options list in the end, weighed in at £163k! Thanks again for all the reviews you've done over the last 18 months, they've really helped get me to the point where I could make a really well informed decision.

Isn’t there a case to reduce the option lists to speed up the production as currently every vehicle is total bespoke. Take the car industry post covid they are going more and more with packages which add, in the case of even a Mini includes 15 options. It’s about finding a balance.

In reality, many of the options (especially the packs) will be fitted to all vehicles but, at this point in the market, there will always be choices, such as upholstery, furniture colour and extras like solar, coffee machines and inverters. It's the chassis options usually that cause delays.
